Anyone know what needs to be done in order to be able to RTSP live video feed or is it even possible? HTTP video feed at http://192.168.1.254:8192 works but RTSP doesn't work at all. I tried rtsp://192.168.1.254/xxx.mov rtsp://192.168.1.254/xxx.mp4 and many other similar combinations but no luck.

According to the Novatek NT96660 (not exactly sure if MT1 uses this version tho) documentation, there are these notes which I didn't quite understand:
"
There is no RTSP data stream in idle state; user should close RTSP client. When Movie record start and stop there is short time no RTSP data stream
Start and stop movie record.
Command: http://192.168.1.254/?custom=1&cmd=2001&par=1
  1. This command would return until the frame data is ready to transmit. User should start
RTSP client until this command response.
  2. When live view state changes to record state, user should stop RTSP client until this
command return, and then start RTSP client again. There would be short time no
RTSP data while changing. Record state change to live view state is the same.
"
Thank you

Did you try rtsp://192.168.1.254 with no filename?

Why do you prefer rtsp to http streaming?

I noticed this problem on one of the Viofo cameras too, could have been the MT1. Viofo confirmed that it didn't work, but I don't know why it doesn't, maybe something to do with having two remote cameras instead of one local and one remote.

I did find that the MT1 is extremely reliable streaming to the App, even when the MT1 was in my car engine compartment with the live view on a tablet inside the car, so with the wifi signal completely blocked by metal, it ran glitch free for hours.

My initial plan was to be able to mirror the view of the rear camera so that I can use its live feed and observe the incoming traffic more effectively. I thought it would be easier to do that using rtsp stream instead of the constantly refreshing html page. I think I give up at this point. I wish the app supports the mirroring option but it doesn’t.

instead of the constantly refreshing html page.
You can play the http stream in a video player, looks identical to the rtsp as far as I know... Some video players will let you mirror as well, I think VLC has mirror and zoom controls.

Do you use wifi station mode when playing the streams? Does the http stream have any sound?

I didn't know that the MT1 had station mode, so no!
I don't think it should matter if you have it in station mode or not.

Does the http stream have any sound?
Good question, I don't remember ever noticing, if you test it out before anyone else answers, let us know the answer...

Yes, in theory it should be same, but in practice you never know.

I've still not bought it, so I was asking just to be sure. I guess I'll have to experiment by myself...

Did you manage to get it to work? It looks like the RTSP is closed, and I haven't been able to open it through commands.

Unfortunately, the device where I plan to stream to, doesn't support the HTTP stream (and it has no sound, btw) :( I asked Viofo and they said to me that the RTSP stream is supported, but it seems they were wrong.

I wish VIofo would document all this, and add a few hooks, permanent wifi on and station mode, I could build my own cloud with a Raspberry Pi Zero W2 and a hotspot but whatev

You can access the RTSP stream on VLC using the URL: rtsp://192.168.1.254 if you can connect your phone to the camera's wifi successfully.

For a customized version, you can contact our support team, or send pm to @VIOFO-Support

Yes, Viofo should start looking a bit into the future and think about the connectivity of their products, the era of standalone devices is passing by...

Sorry, but you're wrong. In this model (MT1), it's not enabled. The port 554 (RTSP) is not reachable:

And it would not play with VLC, of course. HTTP streaming at port 8192 is working fine but I cannot use that, I need RTSP streaming.

It's funny because, if you take a look at the firmware in plain text, there are references to this url (192.168.1.254/xxx.mov). It looks like someone forgot to enable the feature in this dashcam model.

What makes me angry is that I emailed Viofo before buying the cam in order to confirm this and they said "yes, connect to that url".

Any chance of getting that "customized" version with this error fixed, @VIOFO-Support? Thanks.
