I just went out to my car to check where to mount T340 FRONT / MAIN UNIT.
Because T340 has IR Interior camera built into front / main unit, it limits where it can be mounted to provide equal POV outside both driver & passenger front windows.
That’s kind of the whole point of 210° Ultra Wide Fisheye IR Interior Camera.
If law enforcement performs a traffic stop on city streets they usually approach driver side window, and hover (just how @kamkar prefers).
However, if law enforcement performs a traffic stop on the highway, they usually approach passenger side window for officer safety.
Also to have symmetrical coverage in parking mode.

It looks like I have to mount T340 front / main unit below rear view mirror half way down the windshield.
But, I don’t think this location will work because it’s too low.
In the past I’ve tried to mount dashcams above the rear view mirror, but there’s either not enough room, or the Frit Dots obstruct the camera’s FOV.
However, that location works great for Telephoto cameras because of their narrow FOV.

I just realized for my car’s fitment it would have been better to have Telephoto Camera built into front / main unit instead of IR Interior camera.
But, I doubt that’s possible because;
1.) IMX678 + IMX675 in the same housing would generate too much heat to properly dissipate.
2.) 4x “long telephoto lens” on IMX675 image sensor would not physically fit in the housing.

Hard to tell whether you have the E1 Pro there or the other E1 Pro there ...

Can you flip the camera rotations?

The cylinder style dashcams usually have the cable inputs on the right hand side, which is out of view in left hand drive vehicles - but in the UK with right hand drive vehicles, it's usually best to install this style dashcams upside down and flip the camera rotations in the dashcam settings (if not currently, this should be a relatively easy firmware update fix).

That's often a challenge for dashcams where the front & cabin cameras are in the same unit.

Hopefully one day we will have the option of front + telephoto in one unit, with the cabin cam as a remote for optimal placement.

I’m waiting for fully finished retail version, (same as sold to customer).
Not Pre-Production DVT unit.
Can you flip the camera rotations?
I don’t know, my test unit is in route.

I think I figured out a solution.

I want it now 🪿🥚

Thank you for all the answers, (sorry some did not make sense / were applicable).

A329S has (4) different firmware versions depending on which Remote Cameras are connected.
1.) A329S
2.) A329T
3.) A329WW
4.) A329TC

Q:
Does T330 & T340 have (4) different firmware versions?
Or does the camera “auto-detect” which remote cameras are installed?
Or does the customer select which Remote Cameras are connected using Smartphone APP?

Yes, same as A329S series with different firmware version.

Yes, same as A329S series with different firmware version.
I was hoping you wouldn't say that. lol
Customers trying to update (4) different firmware versions with (4) different Boot Loaders on A329S over the past year has been "challenging".
But now that "original" VIOFO Smartphone APP has been discontinued, and removed from the APP stores, and we have the all-new VIOFO Dashcam APP fully rolled out, it should be a lot easier with fully functional OTA updates.

In the future can we just have one single modular firmware per dash cam no matter if there are (4) different remote cameras?
Is that impossible?

Potentially the difference firmware needed relates to how each firmware acts with the different lenses - the interior fisheye for example on the A329S when plugging in a telephoto lens instead keeps the fisheye look.

That could potentially be overcome by having a unified single firmware, but with a camera/lens port drop-down selector in the camera settings menu.

Ie - main unit has a single firmware, then depending on what camera you plug in, the main camera settings menu lets you select what you've added from a drop-down (if it can't auto detect what you connected).

For example; (a menu in the camera settings menu)

Camera port 1 - telephoto/interior/rear/rear waterproof/OFF
Camera port 2 - telephoto/interior/rear/rear waterproof/OFF

(Changing between different attached camera selections may require a system reboot)

That way the system can set the correct aspect ratios etc depending on what drop-down is selected, or also turn off that port even if something is connected but not needed right now, to save the customer unplugging it each time (to increase bitrate on the remaining cameras).

Potentially
This got complicated real quick, I don’t quite grasp.
Bottom line, it needs to be user friendly for the next customers in line, (Gen Z & Gen Alpha) need I say more 🤣
Besides, how many man hours does it take engineers to write (4) different firmware versions, and (4) different boot loaders every time there’s a firmware update?
Won’t “modular firmware” also save manufacturing time & cost?
The current protocol seems like treating symptoms, instead of finding a cure.

My text didn't come out as clear as I'd intended 🙂

I've tried to simplify what I meant (amended my post above).

Rather than 4 different firmware.
Just have 1 firmware for all, but then a drop-down box in the camera menu settings to select what add-on cameras you have connected, so it adjusts accordingly.

It's a simple concept, but my description was way over-complicated

OK, now I understand, you gotta remember who you're dealing with 🙃
That would work for you, and I.
But, that's still too complicated for you know who.
That's why I suggested front / main unit "auto-detect" remote cameras when connected.
But that would require some "unique implant" in remote cameras, and I don't think that could be transmitted over MCX Coax cable.
So that won't work either 🤣

Fully agree.
My suggestion was a contingency if auto-detect isn't possible - but still allowing for a single firmware.

Therefore turning to 'auto-detect' into 'user-select' instead.

Q: Does T340 support (2) Telephoto Cameras?
Does T340 support (2) IR Interior Cameras?
Does T340 support (2) Rear Cameras?
A: YES
That is great to hear. One facing front to back. Second one facing from the rear windshield to front of vehicle. Cool.
