We have Power... Or do we?

Just hard wiring my unit into my car & i have connected the unit to a 12V ignition source. I have a constant Red light on the unit. Pressing the power button on the side does not appear to turn the unit on. Plugged it back into the computer via USB and i get the same red light but no action. Is there something wrong?
The unit worked fine yesterday.

40 minutes later, still plugged into the computer & now i have nothing.

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious.... but you do have a proper hardwire power supply that will supply 5V to the unit as per cigarette lighter USB that comes with the unit?
If you've just put 12V staright up the cables into the unit then you've probably blown it? :-(

yes i have hardwired a cigarette lighter plug and hidden it using the original cabling/ charger the unit comes with.
