Thinkware 750 Development

no, there isn't unfortunately, there is only one way to crack this nut so to speak and ive not made any progress on it at all. interestingly TelNet is wide open on the device, (or it was on .15) that might be an avenue to look in to.

There is a special USB cable we need to know the pin outs of that will give us the physical means to flash the device, however even with that we still need appropriate ELF file.

Short of JTAGing it, I fear we are at a loss on this one.

I'm getting confused - in another thread there's discussion about how Thinkware have somehow stopped F750 owners from upgrading to F770 firmware. My F750 is still on version 1.00.15. Can I still upgrade to F770 firmware?

yes, if you read the first post here you will find the details, if you are still running .15, then you can upgrade to the F770 I have linked the firmwares you need in the first post, once you are on the F770 firmware, then so far, there isn't any issue with upgrading to new f770 firmware revisions

I was successful in updating the firmware on my brand new F750 without any issues. Thanks Dee_82 for you work and simple to follow instructions. 🙂

However, I seem to be having a problem in that the camera keeps rebooting. Also, the camera never stops recording 🙁, i.e. it keeps recording in continuous mode even when car is switched off. I have even tried disabling the parking mode but it still keeps recording.

Only way to make it stop is to turn the camera off.

Not sure if it is a problem with the hardware, firmware or the installation itself. I had it professionally installed and also have Celink-B installed. I intend to take it back to the store but would like to revert to original firmware, just in case. Dee, you able to point me in the right direction?

the problem is likely the celink-b. If you used the thinkware hardwire kit (must) but connect it to a secondary battery incorrectly then it will never know the ignition has been turned off. I've seen a lot if people with this battery expanded and all were because the thinkware hardwire kit wasn't used or was installed wrong or it wasn't used at all!.

flashing back to f750 should be simple enough if you haven't installed the newest firmware, thinkware has gone out of their way to annoy us and prevent us from installing in correct firmwares from other devices, in short it should be as simple as doing the opposite, of what you did, take f750 firmware, rename it to F770 and be done.

before returning anything check the install is correct then apply the same firmware again, then try rolling back to f770 v.02 and finally f750 v.15.

bet you its the install tho! 🙂

I got it installed by the same place I bought the cam from. So either way they gotta fix it. I am also leaning towards them not installing celink-b correctly. I remember watching from a distance as the guy doing install was wondering what to do with wires that came with celink-b. Infact those wires are still sitting in the celink-b box that they returned back to me.

I just don't want them to use firmware as an excuse. I have updated it to F770 1.06 (latest version I think) following your instructions. Thanks again mate.

I wouldn't be too concerned that there are wires left over - this often happens when integrating two systems where both have a set of wires to do the same thing, and so only one of the sets can be used.

If the F750 is recording when the ignition is off then undoubtedly that is a connection error - I just can't see how any firmware issue could make that happen if the wiring was correct. Maybe the rebooting is part of that - the Cellink gets drained and so power to the F750 is lost, but then the car battery starts charging it and power is restored?

FYI IIRC there were two different Thinkware hardwiring kits produced with opposite wiring colours (in one red is permanent power and in the other it is yellow). From the photos I saw in each case the labels on the wires were correct. However if your installer relied on the colour of the wires without checking the labels then that could have cause the problem.

I think restarting of the cam and continuous recording after ignition turn off are 2 seperate issues, with restarts being caused by Samsung Evo 64 Gb I was using (just posting Crystal Disk Mark stats in card error thread). I have reverted to Thinkware 16 Gb card and rebooting seems to have settled down though I have not driven much with it. However, the cam still does not stop recording after ignition turn off. I believe it might be, as you suggest, a wiring issue with the install.

Amazing thread. I bought a F750 and immediately followed the instructions to upgrade to F770. It went smooth as silk. I am probably one of the few who prefer the F750 form factor because of where it lets me position the camera without the body getting in the way. Now I have the benefits of the F770 features as well. Thank you!

Great thread 🙂 but i just checked the 770 manual , we dont have any option to change the time lapse from 1 minute video to 4 min 🙁 both manuals showing same app features 750 & 770

@Dee_82 bestbuy send me 16gb thinkware card , the suppose to send 32gb , i already contact them to send me 32gb , lets c if they are good enough , just want your input regarding using some other SD card ? any special way to format ? or need to copy anything from my current 16/gb card ?

Thanks in advance 🙂

Its important you don't swap SD cards when making setting changes so always try and use your normal card (ideally the thinkware one)

I am finally intending to upgrade the FW on my F750 to the F770 FW but am concerned about the above warning. I have been using a 128GB SD card without problem virtually from the start. I re-used the 32GB Thinkware branded SD card in another device which is the main reason I have taken so long to do this - I needed to free it up for use again. So I had planned to use the Thinkware card for the upgrade process and then go back to using the 128GB card in the F750. But does the above warning imply that I can't?

I'm using a Lexar 633x 128GB in my F750 with F770 firmware with no problem.

However, it did not like the Lexar 300x in even 64GB - would just constantly reboot.

In my research I found that the 633x 128 is a reliable option, so that's why I went with it.

Hey guys, sorry for not responding earlier as I went to see family over Christmas and had to put this off till now.

I have been trying to retrace my steps to downgrade back to F750 firmware but not having much luck. I had upgraded to f770_3_1.00.06 downloaded directly from Thinkware website. Now, using the Thinkware card that came with the cam, I have tried downgrading to earlier F770 versions as well as directly to F750 firmware.

I have formatted the card multiple times, in camera and on computer (used both Mac and Windows), placed the bin file on formatted card and put it back in the camera. As soon as I boot the camera up, it either asks me to format the card or it just boots up like normal, deleting the bin file and putting on the normal folders instead.

Any ideas on what I could be doing wrong?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I looked through the whole thread and didn't see. Is the UK version of the firmware ok to use in the US? If not, what file do I need to convert my F750? Thanks!

Sorry if I worded my question wrong. My US F750 is at 1.00.15 right now and I was wondering if the UK firmware posted in the first post is what I'm suppose to use to convert it to an F770.

Ok, I was under the impression that I had to convert my F750 to F770 with the firmware posted in this thread. So I can download F770 firmware version 1.00.06 from Thinkware directly and load it onto my F750? Thanks
