Disable WiFi before driving to reduce heat and increase detail.
Higher Bitrate MODs improve image detail and increase MP4 video clip size.

How to load Modified Firmware: https://viofo-dash-cam-modified-firmware.blogspot.com

NOTE: If update fails or is corrupted the BootLoader is still functional.
To restore Dashcam, copy official A129 firmware file to microSD card then Power-On wait 1 minute.

Expanding my Firmware Modifications to include A129DUO, A119PRO, A119 & A119S Dash Cams. Below is a link to my A129DUO Modified Firmware Collection.
Seeking a few A129DUO owners to install and verify functionality, (must RENAME the binary file from FWA129_v1.20_24Mbps_Sharp_DICE.bin to FWA129.bin )
1) Flash Update proceeds normally (slow blinks, fast blinks, pause, slow blinks, fast blinks, restarts)
2) blue DICE Logo appears.
3) Menu Firmware Version has changed.
4) recorded test clips for 1080p@60, 1080p@30 should now be saved as 24 Mbps.
5) Sharpness has been modified from 40 down to 20 to reduce halo over-sharpening effect.
6) Sharpness may require increasing instead of lower, let me know if its worse.
7) does Parking Mode work normally at 24 Mbps ?
8) rear camera bitrate unchanged but note both cams save clips correctly.
9) anyone running A129 using 1080P@30fps at 15Mbps may want to try 20Mbps instead of 24 to match bit rate of 60fps, let me know.

Sharing my A129DUO Modified Firmware. version 1.20 BitRate 24 Mbps + Sharpness 20 MOD + DICE Logo.

Increasing BitRate reduces pixelation on complex object like tree leaves, road surface, may reduce motion blur.
A119PRO is almost unbrickable if you don't flash the BootLoader. If update fails or is corrupted the BootLoader is still functional.
To restore Dashcam, copy official A129 firmware file to SD card then Power-On wait 1 minute.

Thanks, I will give this a try..

Custom firmware wouldn't flash for me. Put onto root of sdcard, when I fired up the cam it just started recording as normal.

5) Sharpness has been modified from 40 down to 20 to reduce halo over-sharpening effect.
Hi, you can get better results modifying all 16 values in each of these tables, not only 64 (0x40) ones.

To use Modified Firmware you must RENAME the binary file from FWA129_v1.20_24Mbps_Sharp_DICE.bin to FWA129.bin
I add the long name so users can tell differences at a glance.

I named it FWA129.bin thing is I actually needed to just name it FWA129

Will report back my findings

Yeah that's what it was

More A129DUO Modified Firmware uploaded all with default Bit Rates, but different Sharpness levels to compare.
FWA129_v1.20_defaultMbps-Sharp27_blueDICE.bin
FWA129_v1.20_defaultMbps-Sharp32_blueDICE.bin (previously known as Sharp20, now values 1-100)
FWA129_v1.20_defaultMbps-Sharp37_blueDICE.bin
(must RENAME the binary file from FWA129_v1.20_27Mbps_Sharp32_blueDICE.bin to FWA129.bin )

  4. recorded test clips for 1080p@60, 1080p@30 should all be saved in original Mbps.
  5. Sharpness (1-100) has been modified from official 64 down to 37 / 32 / 27 to reduce halo over-sharpening effect.

NOTE: all my BCHobbyist Modified Firmware are not Official Releases. These user created binary files may not work, I am not responsible for any loss or damage, use at your own risk. MOD'ing is the future, just ask the guy that launched his car into space.

A129DUO is almost unbrickable if you don't flash the BootLoader.
If update fails or is corrupted the BootLoader is still functional.
To restore Dashcam, delete current FW file from memory card then copy official A129DUO firmware file to card then Power-On wait 1 minute.

Tried the new firmware today. To be honest I couldn't tell much difference. It's such a subtle change it's barely indistinguishable.

Still got pixelation in high tree areas which I figured I would. Picture quality is still great from the front camera.

I really need a cpl, the glare from my dash driving into the sun is really bad.

What's the maximum bitrate for the A129?

What's the maximum bitrate for the A129?
Since this is a DUAL Cam DVR good idea to stay under 25Mbps, default at 60fps = 20Mbps / 30fps = 15Mbps
actually I do need some A129 RAW clips using official firmware.

Does bigger bitrate make impact on CPU? I heard that it may overheat in longer time during hot days. I have A129.

Increasing Bit Rate , Resolution & Frame Rate will all increase processing load in tiny amounts. Installing the maximum Modified Bit Rate of 27.5Mbps will push the temps higher but not to a critical level. If your goal is improved A129 image quality download my 24Mbps BitRate MOD, its the same default rate all A119 DVRs use for 1440P and supports Parking Mode without lockups or skipped detections. Why the newest A129 has default 1080P@60fps bitrate of only 20Mbps is an insult.

Are you going to mod the 1.3 firmware as well?

Sharpness MODs
Sharpness value (1-100) has been modified from official 64 down to 48 / 37 / 32 / 27 / 16 to reduce halo over-sharpening effect.

BitRate MODs
Increased BitRate to 27Mbps, 24Mbps, 20Mbps for both 60 & 30FPS. The higher the number the more load on processor/chipset resulting in more heat. Benefit is reduced pixelation on complex patterns such as road, buildings, trees, sky.

Edge Detection MODs
Edge Detection default value 128 modified to 28 / 68 / 168 / 228 . Correctly combined with Sharpness improves object definition without halo effect.
Video comparisons indicate improved object definition after combining Sharp32+Edge168

Contrast, Saturation, Hue, Brightness, White Balance MODs
>>>>> working on it <<<<<<
More video quality improvements on the way, Thanks for the support.

What is correct combination? Examples? :)
IQ tip, increasing sharpness and edge detection too far creates halo effect, I supplied the MODs you mix and match, try them all out. I can't do everything for VIOFO.

edit: support for the end user has priority so ... Video comparisons indicate improved object definition after combining Sharp32+Edge168, Download MOD from (( Custom MODs )) folder.
