Vantrue E360

Is the tripod so it can be used as a standalone camera, like out of the car?

Still, 2k and 2k doesn't mean 4k. And even if it did in some universe, interpolating it to 5.2k is even worse lol
It uses two IMX675 sensors, which are 2592 pixels wide, a little over the standard 2K resolution of 2560x1440.

2592 * 2 = 5184 pixels width, which if you round it up just a little = 5.2K

Presumably there is a little lost to overlap between the sensors, and a little more lost to de-warping, but since 4K is normally only 3840 pixels width, calling this 5.2K seems reasonable. 5K would probably be a better description.

Is it going to have stabilisation when used on a selfie stick?
Normally you loose some resolution to stabilisation, but with a 360° view, you don't.

Resolution = "5.2K (5184*1944P)", if 5184 is 360° horizontal, presumably 1944 is 135° vertically, so not a true 360 cam like the insta360, but plenty for most purposes.

They probably have a suitable accelerometer for the stabilization from the G sensor, so hopefully they have some kind of stabilization. We will see soon. Have you ever seen stabilization turned on with a GoPro and similar in a car, it gives a strange effect, so it would definitely need to be turned off when used as a dashcam.

Yes, definitely turn it off while driving, especially when driving fast, otherwise:

I would say EIS cos most devices have that these days and is far cheaper than using OIS. Doubt there would be OIS on the lenses themselves

Will have to see what it all looks like when I get one in hand

OIS as far as I know is never present on 360 cameras.

There should be settings to turn off image stabilisation, cos gives that bouncy effect that's in EIS. Overall, it might have a market as it doubles as both a dashcam and standalone 360 camera.

Doubt it would have advanced features like insta360 would, no ability to record in LOG or RAW etc, but should be ok for most cases

The image stabilization feature is still under development and will be made available through a future firmware update.

The E360 looks like it would make a good travel / temporary dash cam for rental car / vacation.

1.) Do you guys have any plans to add a suction cup mount for the E360 like you have for other models, (E1, E2, E3)?
2.) Does the E360 generate two separate files from each image sensor, or just one file of recorded footage?
3.) Does the E360 require specialized / proprietary software to view the recorded footage?
4.) Does the E360 have both H.264 & H.265 Video Codecs?

I remember reading on the Vantrue blog the other day and explanation of 360 cameras, and how they are stitching the image together, so I would presume it's one file of recorded footage overall. Which wouldn't make sense to view using specialized software I don't think.

Reviews should be up in the coming weeks I'd presume, so we'll have more answers then ..

On the E360 website they say there are several different options.
"360 Panoramic view 30fps"
"Dual Fisheye 30fps"
"Fisheye + Fisheye 30fps"

Using dual fisheye when using it as a dashcam would make the most sense I guess.

I did not see any type of CPL for the front camera unfortunately.

1. The suction mount for E360 is currently in trial production, and samples are expected to be available by early December.
2. The E360 will generate separate files from each image sensor according the to the resolution you set.
3. Yes, you can use the Vantrue player to playback the video. The New Vantrue player supports various playback modes, including 360-degree rotation, split-screen (top and bottom), and quad-view.
4. The E360 only has H.264 Video Codecs.

You can't put a CPL on the front of a 360° lens, CPL filters are always flat, but would need to be dome shaped, and that wouldn't work!

Whoops, my fault.
Yeah makes sense, you are totally right.

Is the 24:9 panoramic 360° video created & saved automatically in-camera, or do you have to use Vantrue Player to compile & save the video?

EDIT: I think I found the answer on the website:
