70mai 4K Omni Dash Camera review, bringing the fun back to the road!

I have wondered about this before, if there was a need to put collision detection in the rear camera.
If the front camera unit is sensitive enough to detect impact at the rear, then no need. Perhaps bigger question is the motion detection lacking at the rear a big issue, to me, it might be..

The job of a dashcam, at least for me, is to show that I'm not at fault when an incident occurs. In the case of a hit and run as long as the video shows that was the case there's no need for anything further - capturing the plate number of the offender is irrelevant.
Difference to providing the plate number in hit/run and without providing plate to insurance is your deductible.

Nope, deductible is the same regardless.

As I recall, the only advantages to having the plate, as far as insurance, is it enables the insurance company to go to the other insurance company and demand compensation...which they do. Deductible stays the same.

Would have to agree, it's an interesting and unique way of approaching the '360' situation.

The Vantrue E360 does it in a different way, but I feel that even with it's positives, the 4K Omni is just a better thought-out and better executed than the Vantrue.

70mai appears to be catching up quick to the competition and I'm interested to see what they do next with their upcoming T800.
any news of t800?

At least here, you don't pay a deductible if it was the other person's fault. Having a video of it may prove this.

Likewise here there are a number of scenarios where the insurance deductible is waived - but having a plate number does not play into any of them. Having a video showing someone else is at fault is one of them but, unlike some places, it's not necessary for the victim to identify the perpetrator.

Same here in Australia, if you've been rear ended for example it's automatic assumption that the other driver is at fault. No deductible needed to be paid.

In the U.S., deductible cost and if the person with the damaged vehicle pays it, is driven by collision, comprehensive, uninsured motorists, and each particular plan. Even if the other driver is at fault, the owner of the car struck will more than likely pay the deductible. Some are lucky if their insurance company will do what is called deductible recovery via Subrogation where the insurance goes after the other company to reclaim damages, if successful, then the driver will most likely get their deductible returned. Regardless, the non-fault driver will quite often pay that deductible up front if they want their car repaired quickly. Waiting on the other insurance company to take responsibility may take months. This of course has a lot to do with the insurance company.

This is why I go with a $100 or $200 dollar deductible on my cars. Any car you need to take to a body shop will almost never coast you less the $600 dollars, and usually a lot more. Getting the low deductible only costs me something like $60 a year and is worth it.

About the only way in the U.S. hitting someone from behind and not being responsible would be if the car you struck, made a sudden lane change, slammed on its breaks...and there were witnesses. This is were a dash cam comes in real handy. πŸ™‚ The number one reason I have a dash cam is for the aggressive drivers around me; I have zero interest in capturing the misadventures of others on the road, or their license plates, although I do, but really, I have the dash cam to cover myself from aggressive drivers.

...but really, I have the dash cam to cover myself from aggressive drivers.
Not just aggressive drivers - all drivers be they distracted, 'under the influence', careless, inexperienced, stupid, etc.

So many tailgaters here in Australia no matter what lane you are driving in. If you want to drive fast but change lanes when you're closing in on me, I don't have an issue with that. But don't climb right up my arse and then think you're intimidating me - I'm the one with the rear dashcam.

Definitely, those are all good reasons. The 'stunts' I see drivers do every day is near mind boggling; I guess I have focused more on aggressive drivers as I had had a few of them, one being a young women who was just over the top. I swear, I think she was following me for about 4 days in a row. One evening coming from work, she kept brake checking me, other drivers around me saw what was happening and they backed off on both lanes. Eventually I made a lane change just before an intersection and passed her. She must not have noticed it, did a brake check on a car that was approaching me from behind and they must have struck her. I noticed that were no more cars behind me after a minute or so. She shut down both lanes. I never saw her again on the road, I think the State Police and court system must have put the full force of the law on her.

If someone behind me honks or flashes, I go slower 'for safety.'

A 'trick' I learned may, many years ago while still in school was to 'tap' the brakes at the same time as punching the gas pedal - brake lights come on and the nose of the car will dip as if braking hard but you actually accelerate. Scares the crap out of the tailgater and they generally stay far back afterwards.

Not sure it's possible in newer cars that are computer controlled and may not allow simultaneous acceleration and braking. And with the prevalence of road rage I'm not sure I'd do it even if it is possible.

Still possible haha in newer cars

This will only work with a soft suspension.
In my car this won't do anything haha

As I said this was many, many years ago (more than I care to say πŸ™„ ) and all (American?) cars had soft suspensions unless they were on a race track.

Won't work in my (British) car either, it is front wheel drive, so if you are accelerating, the front should lift, however hard you are pressing the brakes.

You can however put your foot very lightly on the brake pedal and light the brake lights, without causing any significant braking.

In some cars you can put the parking brake on at the same time, and the rear will dip down. That does tend to make people back off because they can't understand!
