DR970X-2CH Testing & Review RCG

Pittasoft sent me a DR970X-2CH LTE dash camera to see how it performs. The inclusion of the LTE circuitry in the front camera certainly bulks up the front dash camera size.

I'll start checking it out in the next few weeks.

Unfortunately, the DR970X-2CH LTE front camera was badly out of focus. Pittasoft agreed it was out of focus. Today, I shipped it back to Pittasoft so they can "recalibrate" it or send me a different one.

FWIW, I've experieced this issue with Blackvues before too. Hopefully the replacement is in focus across the frame like your non-LTE.

These out of focus issues are starting to get at my goat.
I currently have two out of focus cameras, and a third is suspect, but I haven't been able to 100% condemn the camera yet.
From now on, I'm going to be requesting two units for test & evaluation like RCG does so he can easily compare camera settings simultaneously.
Will I get two? Probably not. lol

I've been reading some threads, and found a YouTube video on how to correct lens focus issues by re-adjusting them.
I'm 90% sure I can do it myself without damaging the camera, but I don't have the tools & equipment to perform the procedure.

A few people think that my DR970X i was testing is out of focus. In my opinion if this is what your shipping customers, then thats what goes up on YouTube. Other wise customers are being misled by their bad quality control. Now if they admit publicly there was a challenge with a batch and replace everyone's I would be happy to remake all my videos comparing again. Because bad runs can happen in manufacturing. Either way getting a hold of Blackvue tech support has been like pulling teeth.

So if someone has a direct contact with someone there it would be great because even my rep could not get a hold of them.

Hi,

I wonder is mine the same?

What do you think from these videos?:

I’ve attached screenshots instead. Do these images look good/in focus?

It's hard to tell.
Can you upload a 1 minute clip to YouTube?
If you upload from your smartphone make sure you select "full quality" in the YouTube App settings.
Try parking in front of a brick wall if you can.

The front camera's right side/upper half looks out of focus. The section just above the truck (stop light/trees) also looks out of focus. The lower / left side looks to be in focus.

The rear camera might be slightly out of focus, but it's hard to tell with the glare/reflection of the plastic piece in the rear window glass.

Will try get and get a brick wall and will record.

Thank you for the YouTube videos, (even a good song). lol
The front camera is definitely out of focus, (see attached photos).
Look how sharp the text is on the van, compared to the Mazda SUV on the right.
I only know it’s a Mazda SUV because of the rear camera.
Actually, I had no problem reading the plates of almost every car from the rear camera.
No need for the brick wall.

Thanks for that. So the rear camera is fine? Great. It’s only new. I’ll go back to the installer and get them to replace it.

Seems like mine is like your one. Did Blackvue/Pittasoft send you a replacement? Looks like a bad batch for what is their latest flagship model is wholly unacceptable.

Pittasoft had me send in (they supplied a DHL shipping label) the DR970X LTE cameras to be recalibrated. After the front was recalibrated, it's still out of focus on the right side. I sent an email to Pittasoft over two weeks ago about this issue, but I've received no response. I just forwarded that email again to my Pittasoft support contact to see if I can get a response to this issue.

Here's a screenshot from the "recalibrated" DR970X LTE front camera:

That’s really poor service. Are they blind? Did they even check it after recalibration? I think at this stage a refund/replacement is in order. Also, two weeks and no reply! WTF?!

Did you read my testing thread before you purchased your 970X?

I received an email back from my Pittasoft support contact. He agrees that the recalibrated DR970X LTE front camera is still out of focus. He stated he will get a replacement unit sent to me from the next/current production run.

I would email him to say test it first before they send it to you with a screenshot to ensure it is working as they could send you another unit that is out of focus.
