Not true! As of this month the UK use of coal fired power plants has nearly doubled over last year and may continue to soar according to what conditions you experience this winter along with your ongoing gas crisis.

I was looking at:

With only 2 coal fired power stations left supplying the GB electricity grid, we can't possibly use double last year!

We also don't have enough coal since we shut down production:

There used to be gas storage containers all over the UK then some bright spark decided to demolish them all.

= we have some in power who can't see further than the end of their nose.

Same with our railways. They decimated them, sold the lines and now they are trying to increase them.

And whilst coal plants are now down to 2 we now need them albeit hopefully temporarily. Opening up a few, if we had them would still be minute compared to what China and India are doing with coal

In all scenarios mothballing would have been better.

The UK has certainly curtailed its use of coal but your recent energy crisis has dramatically increased coal burning at this time.

The use of coal for power generation in UK is projected to rise as the winter weather approaches.

The UK fired up an old coal power plant on Monday to meet its electricity needs.
Warm, still, autumn weather has meant wind farms have not generated as much power as normal, while soaring prices have made it too costly to rely on gas.
As a result, National Grid ESO - which is responsible for balancing the UK's electricity supply - confirmed coal was providing 3% of national power.
It said it asked EDF to fire up West Burton A, which had been on standby.
On Tuesday, the use of coal returned to 2.2% of the UK's electricity generation.

You are trying SO hard to deny the crisis the UK is in. Same as with COVID. It's weird to observe.

Yes, they used to hold hydrogen! (Not clean green hydrogen, hydrogen produced from coal.)

And whilst coal plants are now down to 2 we now need them albeit hopefully temporarily. Opening up a few, if we had them...

We have converted a lot of the capacity to burn biomass, so actually we do still have them, and they do get used when wind power is low or demand high, but they can only burn biomass now.

Being at Russia's energy mercy has been shown to be highly problematic.

I don't know that solar and wind is merely to satisfy tree huggers but I agree that nuclear will be required to resolve the climate crisis. New generations of nuclear power plant design are much safer and more efficient than the aging designs that most of the world is still relying on. Modular nuclear power has much potential as well.

We needed to start building nuclear plants a decade or two ago, the one currently being constructed is taking a decade, and it will still produce less power than our biggest windfarm (on windy days!). I don't think we have time left, or enough skilled nuclear workers to be able to make a significant dent in the problem using nuclear any more.

Wind is only unreliable if you don't have enough storage.

Solar seems pointless in the UK because we hardly get any during the winter when we need it most! It is also expensive compared to wind even in summer.

O we Danes better not start building anything........ SIGH.
So over in Copenhagen they are building a 52.000 MSq building to house Physics - chemistry - computer science and Math, with 100 LABS and 2000 SqM set aside for experiements and the building is getting the name the Niel Bohr building.
The project was supposed to be done in 2016 and cost 1.6 billion Dkkr, the new price tag is 4.2 billion DKkr and the building are no way near completion, pretty much everything whent wrong here, all aircion have been taken out 1 time, and just about every pipe or wire conduit have also been wrong or made wrong.

The university of Copenhagen which is going to rent the place ( rent based on construction cost ) well they are letting people off as i type to be able to pay the rent.
The annual rent is expected to me 200 mill DKkr annually,,,,, and thats just the rent no heating / power ASO

I get panic attacks thinking about the end price for our energy islands and the Femern tunnel to Germany,,,, cuz if Danes build the Hoover dam, we would still be building on it, and you do not want to know the priice if you was a American tax payer.

We won't have that problem with our new nuclear power station!

We got the French to pay for it, employ the UK workforce, and to take responsibility for construction, operation, and decommissioning.
Only requirement on us is to pay the fixed rate for the power it generates for 35 years, so we already know exactly what it will cost, assuming it works. Did seem a little expensive at the time, but with the recent rise in fossil fuel prices it is looking like a bargain, especially with the cost overruns that we will not be paying! 😊 Of course wind has since dropped to about a third of this cost, but it won't be much more than hydrogen from wind, and with the nuclear we will never run out of stored hydrogen.

Each of EDF’s four attempts at building similarly designed reactors have been delayed and over-budget, with its plants in Finland and France not yet operational more than a decade after work on each began. This project has a similar history: when EDF first started promoting this scheme in 2008, the government priced it at around £4bn, for completion by 2017. After last month’s announcement, the price tag is up to £22.5bn.

Under the deal EDF agreed with the UK government in 2013, which guaranteed it receiving £92.50 per MWh – index linked – for power for 35 years, there will be no effect upon bill payers of Hinkley’s higher construction costs. There is also scepticism as to whether EDF can hit its 2025 deadline to start commercial generation. EDF’s statement admitted that the risks of a delay of up to 15 months had risen since its last update, but that so far it was sticking to its target.

Sorry, the Climate change debate is a giant ruse by the Liberals to raise our taxes, increase the cost of Gas, and to push us into their Socialist agenda. I do agree we as a society do have an impact But we in America ARE NOT THE PROBLEM. We are at the bottom of the chart (see above). Also, the mental giants behind this scheme do not take into consideration that the Earth has cyclical events as history shows. Danish gasoline have always been record expensive, long before any serious appearing people started to talk about the environment which back then only hippies cared about.
But yes there are no reason to think that the people in the top half or just top 10 % of citizens in any country care much about the rest of the population in that country.
Sure they will appear to care a lot, but really having watched these people in work for a few decades it is clear that something are not right.
In the past year the top 400 rich people in the US have increased their wealth with 40 %, and we all know what the rest of us have gotten ( more debt thanks to out elected people )
There are no accountability for these people, and there are no constitutional means to stop them, like for instance what i advocate a cap on how long a person / family can serve its country in politics.
Us bottom of the barrel people, we could still do much if we used our main power, which is to use our wallet to hit back at these people.
I have never put food on Zuckerburgs table - and i would never buy a apple product, and i do not buy Nestle products as these and others i also dont support do not pay tax in Denmark in spite of them selling here.
And i have a focus on my google use, which i am looking at ways to stop using or at least minimize their chance of making money off me, for instance i have never seen a add on youtube.

That chart was created when Trump was in office and had withdrawn from the Paris Climate Agreement, had upended and removed numerous environmental regulations and climate initiatives and was calling Climate Change a Chinese hoax. The current administration is in the process of undoing the damage that was done, has rejoined the Paris Agreement and is in the process of aggressively targeting GHG levels.
