70mai 4K Omni Dash Camera review, bringing the fun back to the road!

Recommended Carrier List for the 70mai 4G Hardwire Kit (UP04/UP05):

70mai have just published a handy list of recommended network carriers to use for their 4G Hardwire Kits, across multiple countries (see below). Quite the extensive list and makes the process handy for the end user wanting to setup their 70mai Dashcam with the LTE hardwire kit.

A change I've noticed with the latest 70mai app release is the addition of a 'Data Service' option to the settings for the 4K Omni.

This in effect provides a shortcut for a more seamless setup with data SIMs that are compatible with the 4K Omni (see screenshots below). As of yet, there hasn't been a list provided of what network operators have chosen this method to onboard users to the 4K Omni.

Six-Month Follow-up of the 70mai 4K Omni Dash Camera

After spending extended time with the 70mai 4K Omni Dash Camera, it's time to collect my thoughts. This camera remains a daily driver in my vehicle, due to its motion tracking capabilities (otherwise the 70mai T800 would have taken it's place).

In that time, it's performed admirably and i especially appreciate the 4G surveillance I'm able to utilise with this model, paired with the 70mai dashcam battery. After a few bugs at the start, it has turned into a refined and mature product. The only hiccup I've encountered in recent times is an ability to connect to the dashcam remotely, but after some troubleshooting I've since discovered it was due to an issue with my network operator - should I try WiFi or another SIM card, it works fluently.

Could you measure the diameter of the circular part where the mounting adhesive is? Trying to figure out if it would fit on an area.

Sure, it's 42-43mm in diameter when measuring the grey adhesive area

Have you caught anyone in parking surveillance mode?

I have a few times caught people looking at my vehicle, yes. Only when they are loitering and it's set to High (not Ultra High) detection, which requires someone to stand there for a while.

I would set it to Ultra High but then it picks up everything,.even if I move around the front of the car to go to a shopping centre etc, it's too sensitive. I wish 70mai would shorten the detection sensitivity a bit to make it better, but overall it works decently .

You think just the front would’ve good enough or recommend the rear cam too? Battery worth it?

Rear camera on any vehicle I always recommend. The rear camera is only 1080p on the 4K Omni - so unless you have another standalone dashcam model that's higher resolution at 2.5K or 4K that you would want to install, I'd stick with the 4K Omni's rear camera option. Which still performs decently as it's a Starvis 2 sensor.

As for the 70mai battery, this also performs great and I haven't had any issues with it at all. No bugs or the like, but it isn't a very complicated solution either as it doesn't have app support via Bluetooth. I haven't found myself missing the app support to see battery levels, as I can see the voltage levels in the 70mai app anyway. Some people might really have a need for Bluetooth app support so the choice is up to the consumer. The strength of the 70mai battery is it's low price point, and for that it still comes highly recommended from me.

Would you say the T800 is a better option? I have a Kona N which has a huge cover behind the mirror and I wanted to stick the cam on there.

T800 has the thicker cable going to the rear, but the rear camera while bigger isn't that obtrusive.

However the step up in image quality is well worth it by going with the T800 rear camera. I personally prefer the motion tracking of the 4K Omni, so I haven't moved to that T800 for my vehicle - but if that isn't so important then the T800 could work for you
