70mai 4K T800 (unboxing & impressions) (Sony Starvis 2 IMX678, GC2093, Wi-Fi 6/GPS, Novatek NT98530, 4K front / 4K rear / 1080p int, HDR all channels)

Recommended Carrier List for the 70mai 4G Hardwire Kit (UP04/UP05) + 70mai 4G Hardwire Kit Settings Within 70mai App:

70mai have just published a handy list of recommended network carriers to use for their 4G Hardwire Kits, across multiple countries (see below). Quite the extensive list and makes the process handy for the end user wanting to setup their 70mai Dashcam with the LTE hardwire kit.

I have also included screenshots of what the additional settings are within the 70mai App, when setting up the 4G Hardwire Kit (either UP04 or UP05).

Power Consumption, microSD memory card testing and Day One firmware update for the 70mai 4K T800:

The 70mai 4K T800 uses the existing Midrive CC02 cigarette lighter power adapter, which has been used on previous 70mai models, most recently the 4K Omni. Also of note is the thicker than normal USB-C to USB-C power cable for the rear camera RC41 sensor with the 4K T800 package (see photos). Power consumption hovers around the ~9-10W mark, with operating temperatures being quite reasonable too at around 28 degrees Celsius.

When testing the 70mai-branded microSD memory card, which can write and read at very respectable speeds of 85MB/s and 96MB/s. The maximum microSD memory card support for the 70mai 4K T800 is 512GB, which is in deficiency to some of it's competitors which offer support of up to 1TB capacity microSD cards.

Upon connecting the 70mai 4K T800 to the 70mai Android APP, I was prompted for a firmware update to v1.0.118ww with a build date of May 26, 2025. The rear camera firmware version is 0.1.10. Changelog states: fixed known issues. Much like has been the case with the 4K Omni, I would expect a raft of firmware updates in the coming months to smooth out, and add some exciting new features to the 4K T800.

The rear cam cable has a designation which end goes to front and rear. Is it possible to plug it the other way? Using the straight end plugged in to main unit will look more neat imo.

It is, because it's USB-C at both ends. For me I've always found right angle connectors to be more beneficial in terms of hiding the cable under the headliner etc, but personal preference is personal preference and of course what works best for someone else works best for someone else

Thanks. Nice to know. I always install my dashcam below the plastic trim covering the base of rearview mirror and hide the cables underneath that plastic piece. Can’t wait to get mine.

And that is unfortunate. I wonder if they will activate it with an update
No they won't, hasn't happened in previous models. I understand their decision of not wanting to stress the dashcam itself with absurd levels of demand on the processor.

I am still considering this unit over the Viofo because I could never get a Viofo new at that price

What are you upgrading from? Viofo does have stellar video quality but downside can be reliability at times. That being said, their Telephoto is a force to be reckoned with.

For all in one solutions and the 4G and app experience, 70mai gets my vote hands down. Execution is pretty good and even though they can be a bit heavy handed with their colour temperature in their video processing, they're still very very very good in my opinion.

@Augustus from one of your previous pictures it says for "after parking, the recording footage of parking security" - and gives you the option to select the recording cameras

Does this setting mean you can have only the front and rear on while driving, then when the car is off and in parking the recording footage will be all 3 cameras?

That would be correct. Those settings are only for parking mode, I do like how granular the setting is and of course the less channels you have recording, the less the power consumption

Thanks, I'm leaning towards buying this camera now (don't need the internal camera but was after the dual 4k primarily). As an owner of the A329s and this which would you pick? I have the Kickstarter deal so I can get the T800 for $460 so I figured that's a pretty great price.

With parking mode, the hardwire kit is all you need isn't it? The Kickstarter advertises a battery pack but none of the reviews mention using one

Correct, hardwire kit is all you need. I personally use the 70mai Dashcam battery pack instead of hardwiring it to my vehicle, but either option works.

I don't have the A329S, only the A329T. Personally the fisheye interior camera is cool on the A329S but is it more useful than the telephoto in the A329T? I'd take the Telephoto any day of the week.

As for price to performance ratio, I'd say 70mai is for the win hands down. If you can make the budget stretch then the Viofo is an absolute powerhouse, even with the lack of 4k rear. But for an integrated all in one solution (4g kit and the app), I can't look past the 70mai.

Hi. I have the 229. Single. No back camera. The image looks great. I agree on the colors of the 70mai. Way to punchy. Not needed for a dashcam. We aren't recording family vacations. I haven't had a reliability issue with my Viofo. What have you experienced? I keep going back and forth on the fence between the latest Viofo and this. I still think the Viofo beats it in digital video quality. But is it enough to pay more..... ?

My a229 pro failed completely last month and I've had overheating shutoff issues like many have reported. A329 has been rock solid despite SSD support being patchy. A329T too early to say

Viofo doesn't mess around, they just get the best plate capture and no fancy colour processing. And run it at high bitrates like a hypercar it's a beast no doubt

Is it enough to pay more? That's up to the buyer and their priorities. If money is no object, go Viofo if you want the best of the best. If you want the best all in one vertical integration with LTE and app experience, go 70mai. If you want very decent colour processing and decent plate capture but not as great LTE integration, go Vantrue.

Solid advice there. ^ It is too easy to get over-whelmed from the number of available dash cam brands and features. It is easy to buy 'up' and get features one will never use, or even need. Buying 'up' based on a 'just in case I need it' decision is usually not wise from the fact of money spent for features never used.

Colour integrity be damned. 🙂 In the end, a person needs image clarity, plate capture, and reliability. I break features down into two categories...Convenience and Operational.

  • Convenience features are software and hardware and would be something like OTA firmware upgrades, Apps, LCD screens.

  • Operational features are purely software and comprise the settings for GPS, HDR, FPS, screen colour, screen time-out, etc.

I find that once people break the buying decision down to those two catagories, and use mental decipline, they will more often than not, make the best purchase for their needs.

Great reply. I guess I got lucky. My unit doesn't overheat or shutoff. I honestly don't find myself using the Viofo app often. I used it to setup. I download clips to a PC using the micro SD card. I will admit, the 70mai app looks SWEET, but I am getting a dashcam for the images, not the app. THe Viofo is functional for my setup needs. Outside of that, it is kind of forgotten for me. The LTE sounds intriging, but probably overkill for me. I had a similiar feature on a car in the past and never used it except to arm the alarm miles away. You have been a help

No worries, different strokes for different folks , glad I could assist with your purchase decision! 🙂
