Hi BCHobbyist. Do any of these firmware improve night performance? I have factory rear privacy glass and rear tinting as well. not sure if rear brightness can be increased in park mode.. cheers

@BCHobbyist I am also very interested in night performance. I'm ok with stock performace but wouldn't actually want any of those mods to decrease night performance as 80% of the time that's my interest.

On stock firmware halos around street lights are very pronaounced so it will be cool to see result of your mods. Which one u guys i should start with first 4re or 4rf?

Actually working on a MOD for exactly your needs, hope to finish it soon. Currently I/we have no direct control of brightness other than EV and Lens angle/position.

To improve IQ the more footage owners share using different MODs the faster I can adjust values for improvement.
Suggest start at low sharpness 4Re and work higher, it always depends on original focus of your Lens, most A129 are perfect focus.
Attempting to determine acceptable Low - Med - High Sharpness range for soon to be released A129 official firmware. Currently testing Sharpness 70-85-90-101-117 to find Low/Soft & High/Strong limits.

Thanks for the 4Rf Sharp90 Edge138 - vs - 4Ra Sharp85 Edge150 photo comparison.
The difference in Edge Detection is noticeable on plates and chimney bricks, Edge150 is slightly too high but acceptable, in my opinion considering lighting differences 4Rf wins for daytime video IQ.

actually we do => WDR On, no CPL filter, no window tint.

edit: just added WDR = On...

I'm finding that 4Rf is working out best for me so far....

Here's a few sample images from night time recordings with MOD-4Re and 4Rf. At night, I find there's very little to tell between them. I don't think there's much difference between the stock FW and MOD FW in terms of brightness at night, but that's something I plan to look at next week. I'm currently running 4Re and 4Rf, but I will go back to Viofo v1.42 and MOD-4Rf side-by-side.

Both cameras set to : 1080p 60fps 24Mbps EV+0 CPL-OFF

Great idea to remove CPL on both A129's for maximum night image brightness.
Sharp70 & 90 are very close, but noticeable improvement on scooter guy's helmet using 4Rf sharp90 which is expected.
To correctly assign Low-Med-High levels these results suggest Sharp70 isn't low enough and 90 possibly not high enough.
Will create Sharp 60 and 120 with Edge138 today.

@BCHobbyist are you aware of the GitUp F1 firmware modifications being developed by @Falsificator ?

He has made some big changes to bitrate, sharpness and gamma curves (and other areas) that are bringing out a lot more detail in the F1 video:

I don't know if you can use any of his ideas on the A129?
Thanks for links, he has found a very different way of adjusting the many IQ tables. The GitUp F1 uses Ambarella chipset code, ours uses Novatek and very different. GAMMA table values are the ones I'm working on to improve night IQ, many values to adjust, will try to get one ready for tomorrow.

Will it be named 4Rg? Don't wanna get too confused, lol.

Has anyone noticed loading any official or modified firmware then viewing front and rear footage always results in front camera = dull low color saturation, but rear camera = brighter higher color saturation ?

on screen, or the actual video?

In my a129, with any modified firmware, screen lights up when camera auto switching from normal mode to parking mode. With original firmware, screen stays off.

I have tried to put the two mods 4Rf and 4Ra into one video for comparison: They are 40 minutes apart timewise for the journey, and I tried to keep the same sort of time (traffic allowing) Mod 4Ra on the left and 4Rf to the right.

Created new A129Duo - Beta 4Rh & 4Rg with wider Sharpness range to identify Low & High limits. The Saturation, Hue and Gamma IQ MODs need more work, was planning to release today, issues with rear camera IQ levels wildly different.

Thanks for the report, will verify Parking Mode screen behavior when switching back to Normal Mode on other models as well. The official A129 firmware uses lower bit rate with strict limit, the MODs all increase from 20Mbps to 24.6Mbps at 60fps, possibly this difference triggers screen saver. As long as screen blanks out later for normal recording mode and doesn't affect the timer its acceptable, will run a test with default bit rate.
