Could anyone here give me some advice on why my new a229 pro only sometimes locks onto gps? The blue indicator led flashes, but in the two weeks I’ve owned it, it’s only ever locked on twice.
Any tips on how to move forward would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the club.
There are 3 models of the A229;
A229 Duo (2022)
A229 Pro (2023)
A229 Plus (2023)
Each one is different.
In the future please post in the correct thread for “accurate” troubleshooting help.
Your current post is in the A229 Duo thread.
The GPS module for the A229 Duo is different / incompatible from the A229 Pro & A229 Plus.
This will also help others users with the same issue when they read your thread.
Sounds like you may have a defective GPS mount.
The first step for corrective action is to submit support ticket for warranty replacement.

Thanks for getting back to me. I’ll send a ticket as you suggest.
I presume the gps part is located in the base unit then?
Is it a common problem do you know?
Thanks again.

The GPS receiver is in the bit that stays attached to the glass when you remove the dashcam from the mount.

It is possible that you have mounted it on a piece of glass that does not allow the GPS signals through, some windscreens have heater wires that can block GPS, most have an area free of heater wires and other stuff, for mounting radio devices on.

So before returning it, it is sensible to test the GPS out with the unit outside the car, with the base facing the sky. Unfortunately this means unsticking it from the window glass!

There have been some issues with the A229 Pro GPS, I can't remember the details, but I think a firmware update sorted them, but I'm not sure that the new version is on Viofo.com yet, so try installing the latest firmware from the firmware thread:
