I’m officially starting to fall in love with the new Dewarp Setting.
I’ve only tested one other dash cam that had Dewarp.
I can’t remember if it was GNET, or Thinkware.
Of course there’s pros & cons to everything but I don’t see any cons.
I measured the additional power consumption from the small amount of processing power siphoned away, and it’s such a small amount it’s not even worth mentioning.
The tiny bit of “cropping” around the four outside edges of frame are not missed.
Because those parts are bent / distorted anyway.
And anything missed can be captured with left & right side cameras.
I wish this Dewarp effect was available with hardware, and the normal default image but I guess lenses choices are limited for IMX678.

The field of view reduction from 111° to 90° might be significant for some users, and most don't have side cameras. But I admit it's a nice option to have and no-one is forced to use it.

The static views look nice. How does the dewarped view look when you're driving around bends?

111° FOV A329S Front Default (wide)
90° FOV A329S “Dewarp Front Cam”

Firmware: V2.1_260702
APP Version: 1.1.0

Do you mean like driving through a round-a-bout?
I can do that as soon as the sun comes up in a few hours.

HI

This is excellent. I havent tested this myself.
DO i need to update the a239s dashcam and the battery pack for this to work?
Can you confirm that you can set hybrid parking to kick in when battery reaches 15 percent?

Is there anything different or any extra cabling required.
I am going to test this out on the weekend

I don’t think the difference between 90° vs 111° Horizontal FOV is an issue at all.
Check out the difference between;
93° FOV A119 Mini 2K (2022) IMX335
111° FOV A139 Pro 4K (2022) IMX678
Look how much easier it is to read the sign behind the truck, and the phone number on the propane tank on the 2K camera compared to the 4K camera.
The 93° FOV camera still has a full view of the intersection.
I’ve been asking Bill for a 4K VIOFO dash cam with a 93° Horizontal FOV since 2023.
But they don’t make any lenses that “narrow” that fit IMX678.
Hopefully my dream will come true with STARVIS 3 because that 4K sensor is a different size than IMX678.

I don’t know all the details to give you a good answer until V2.1 is released on the official VIOFO website.
The problem with instant gratification is, it takes too long.
Hurry up, and wait 🤣

Bonus Footage

I no longer really perceived how much barrel distortion the lens causes and was jolted back to reality by your flip comparisons above.....sensory adaptation at its best!

I wish I could find a brick wall like @Karagandinez uses to check focus.
That would be ideal to show barrel distortion.
