Am I the first to order the LUKAS LK-7900 ACE?

When I first checked out this camera, price was about $260 from apple-ct. Now it is $212 for greensum and drops to $191 per unit if you order 3. This is for the basic model / no accessories.

The size appears small at 90mmx70mmx48mm. Perhaps the round style makes it look bigger in person. Thanks for the input on the size.

Interesting that this cam might come with a virus as well. First step when receiving a dash cam...scan SD card for virus 😱

PQI Air card has up to 5 meter range ~15 feet. Info on PQI site sales flier.
Enjoy

Question regarding the filters, UV and CPL. Looking a some camera forums it appears these filters are not used by many because they reduce light into the camera and provide possible distortion issues. Its nice to protect the lens but at what cost to image quality? Is it really necessary to have a lens protector? Maybe the issues regarding possible image quality related to specs are the result of the filter?

Just wondering.... getting ready to install... camera looks well made... yep, larger than I thought but small enough.

Ran Bitdefender, it found viruses on the SD card... cookies... expl: cookie021 and others.
Downloaded file viewer and it had a "backdoor" something or other... according to Bit. What is going on?

On my camera Canon EOS I use very often the CPL filter, in order to suppress reflections.

Filters are ok if you feel you like what they do and what you see in the end. Whenever you add glass, and in some cases plastic, your image will always suffer. This is why they make some filters that are cheap and some that can run you more than you would ever think of spending. The UV is something I always keep on my Nikon to protect the lens from scratching and makes cleaning easier. You may get a better shot with it off but that would run with a risk. The only way of knowing would be to try it both ways and see if you can notice any difference. Today I drove home from work using a warming filter. It was an 810
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warm_filter
Now-a-days filters are not used all that much as the results can be duplicated in post processing. Do you want to PP your dash cam video? Maybe you do and maybe you don't. You can not PP the effects of a CPL which can allow you to see through a reflection in water or glass. These will always be used as there is no post processing that can enhance something that isn't there.
I liked the added red effects of my warming filter but the image did suffer somewhat. This filter will be enjoyed in the fall with the colored trees. I wouldn't recommend using any filter on a poor low quality dahs cam but none come with threaded lens to accommodate even a lens cap. The LUKAS does. Your call.

I found no intrusion virus or otherwise so I would question your results and source.

One thing I did find is that the GPS it not performing properly. It can take some time to lock and so far all I have seen is a map of some remote locations near Groznoye near Ukbekistan

I will definitely post something later today and try to upload a video to YouTube.

Nothing fancy needed. Any 1 minute video will do, a video speaks a thousand words! 😀

ok, I can do that now that it's the weekend. I have to open a Google account as I have never uploaded anything before unless you know of another way. Do you want night and daytime clips? All I have are highway shots for the most part. Nothing exciting yet.

You could use http://www.sendspace.com/ so we can download the original files or just create a google account and upload to youtube. 🙂

I looked into creating a Google account but I am not sure if I want the sharing of my personal data with these spam artists that use you for adds and who knows what else. I might just be paranoid but I am not into all this new social media and group hugs like the younger masses are. Call me old fashion or just old but I don't even see the need for a cell phone or iPhone or what ever you hip guys are into.

I'll look into your link and see if I can understand what is going on.

Thanks.

Al.

It's really easy, I don't think you even need to register. Just drag the file into the little box and it will automatically upload and give you a link to share which people click to get the file! 🙂

I think I need to find a way to clip some of the videos to a small portion of what they are and only post some shorts from a couple of files. Maybe night and day clips.

How big are the files? If your upload speed is good, it shouldn't take too long. I think a day and night highway vfootage will more than suffice. Not like there are any other videos about on the forum from this camera.
If you use a video editor to merge/cut the clips, you'll lose a bit of the quality when exporting.

I have 20mb upload so uploading vids on my connection only takes a few minutes. 😀

ok, I am in the process of uploading now. I might have gone overboard because I couldn't make up my mind which ones to choose. I dragged about 6 onto that page so it might take longer than I planned. When I find out what happens next I'll post back hopefully with a link.

Works. It's a lot better than my CR500. 🙁
Might have to purchase one since the price has dropped so much.

I see that I am limited by not subscribing. I was able to view a page that showed all the 8 clips I uploaded but I don't see that anymore. There are other videos I want to make available like the ones I captured using the ITB. Those have some severe reflection from the dash. I don't see reflection using the LUKAS. I also have some with the filters I tried and thought they were very acceptable. I need to get some better shots with cleaner windows but the weather hasn't been behaving well lately. Combined you will really see how nice this camera is.

You must copy each link separately. I think if you closed the page, there is no way of recovering them without re-uploading. 🙁
If you create an account, you would be able to save the uploads.

I think I will go with YouTube. That seems like it might be better.

Thanks for the help getting me started.

Regards.

That's probably easiest. You can always give false info on account creation. 😛
