[App] AFT 1.3.2 - Ambarella firmware editor (development paused)

I didn't say it had nothing todo with it, you said it yourself, compression artefacts, we talk of this being raw footage but its not raw at all, its compressed, and like any compression it will introduce artefacts how much depends of type od compression and bit rate, increasing bit rate over a point will not produce any better results tho, our optics, just as on mobile phones is what holds back great images, you can only squeeze so many protons through a pin hole!

not saying bit rate wont improve images but there is a limit you wont get better than and for most folk that "observable" limit (except black) is 17-18 at 1920x1080. 30fps

in order of impact you firstly have to have good optics, followed by a large and sensitive CCD or CMOS sensor, followed by good a properly configured codec, bitrate forms apart of that last part, but is not the only part of a codec (processor ability dictates ability to handle the encoding process, the processor its self doesn't change the image, it just give the software the ability to change it on the fly, the quicker in crunches numbers the better),

Hi all,
...
Can anybody help me with the camera FW update? Thanks

I definitely realize, that AFT 1.3.2 does not work with my camera.

(i) I did downgrade to the 1110 FW - success
(ii) I did install my customized FW (modified 1138) - success, but the camera does not work well. The stage 4/6 was barely noticeable and after the camera restart the screen was "mangled", see photo
error_FW.jpg

(iii) I did the regular 1138 update, and my camera is back in the state like at the start of all operations.

If there is an interest, I can upload my customized firmware for analysis.

Increased bit rate, change the contrast...

I have now updated the Falcifactor's modified fw to my Phantom 2 vision+ camera. I haven't got much time to play with it but I made a quick test and the video really looks better to my eyes. (I will post link to RAW video later)
You said that you changed the contrast too. How do you change the contrast? I thought that the only things we can modify are bitrate(s), AE table and strings. How did you know what values to edit in order to pump up the bitrate.
It looks that the 1080p30fps bitrate is now around 20Mbps, 720p60fps bitrate is now 18Mbps.

And some test footage..... I think that it has actually too much contrast now...

The values of the contrast adjusted so...

You can also change the viewing angle and enhance detail, using the method "TRUE FullHD"...

All this looks VERY interesting! If I only could read russian.... :-( I'd like to actually decrease the contrast because now all the white areas lack detail and the whites are blooming. Is it possible to enable the TRUE FullHD on the P2V+ camera FW? I don't mind narrowing the FOV if the detail increases. :)

This FW mod with bitrate increase, contrast adjustment and now that TRUE FullHD has raised quite a lot interest inside Phantompilots forum :)

Jarkko Sydänmaanlakka, let's try to do in the evening, when I'm free...

Changes in the firmware DJI Phantom 2 Vision+: https://cloud.mail.ru/public/Lsym/ofPcjQWk4
-Bitrate 24Mbits
-The value of the contrast is reduced
-Mode "TRUE FullHD"

Thanks! :) It starts to look better after every update. This camera has five resolutions to choose from: 640*480 30p, 1280*720 30p, 1280*720 60p, 1920*1080 30p and 1920*1080 60i. Does the TRUE FullHD have effect on both 1920*1080 30p and 1920*1080 60i?

I checked the new video bitrates with VLC mediaplayer and the bitrates are now 20Mbps +-3Mbps. The 720p bitrate has now almost doubled and that is clearly visible. Also the contrast is now much more natural, the whites are not over blooming anymore. Good job! :)

Для A9 амбареллы ещё ничего не придумано ?
Does some ambarella a9 editors already exist ?

Hi Falsificator, i've tried to compile my custom phantom 2 vision plus firmware. I've used last aft (133) and edited the bitrate table. I've opened the stock firmware as A5 bin then edited then build rom from disk and last build firmware. The problem is that the resulting file is a little bit smaller than yours and the original one. I would not like to flash a file that is different in size from the original and from yours...what i'm doing wrong? Thanks

Ps: my .bin result smaller even if i build from the source without edit nothing...

@Tobi@s

Hi Tobias and thanks for this great app, can you take a look at those firmwares? One is the original from my phantom 2 vision plus camera, the second one is the original firmware simply decompiled and recompiled with your application. Checking the content with a binary compare software there are a lot of differences (easily noticeable with file dimension too) even if nothing has been modified, only recompiled the original with your app.

Dimensions firmware should not be different - a mistake.
If you change the size, you need all the connections - local links, just change.
Total Commander can compare two of your file will get 7587 difference !!!!
This is mistake.
an error in the file strings.bin

Yes i agree because of that i can't edit my firmware with this app because for sure will result in a brick...

I think @Falsificator don't use this application to edit the firmware but a simple hex editor because he knows where the bitrate values are stored and simply modify the hex values and save
