A local lab is doing testing of the Moderna(sp?) vaccine and seeking people to volunteer. Gotta say it's tempting with how badly things have gone but I'd have to research their version a lot more first.

I'm sure people are needed to trial these things but would think people in lower risk groups would be more appropriate, initially at least
 
I guess there will be lots of volunteers, there's 1000 spots up for grabs.

I'm sure there will be. As it looks now, this is the worst spot in the State :( And we had started off so well.....

Only one major city around here decided to not adopt a mandatory "mask or social distance" ordinance, and smaller cities are beginning to do that now too. Going to be required in most public businesses for employees too, but TBH most of then were early on board that bus :) And looking around lately mask and glove use is as high as it's ever been. But it's still either out of control or nearly so here.

New technology, it is going to take a long time to get that passed the regulators since the safety really isn't known or understood. If it works and is safe then it is a breakthrough since it is far quicker/cheaper to manufacture and bypasses a lot of the problems with trying to get vaccines to work, but it is really technology for 5/10 years in the future. London has a similar one under test, but they are being very careful with it and taking plenty of time at each stage.

Testing does need all types/ages/etc. of people, and it has already been tested in animals and some people, so may be worth signing up, but that wouldn't be the one I would choose to test!

The Chinese and Indians have traditional vaccines under test, which should be easier to get approved, but they use deactivated covid-19, so there are safety concerns there too, along with the problem that many people may be partially immune after having similar coronaviruses in the past, so they are for next summer, and may not be effective enough.

The Oxford vaccine seems to have bypassed all the problems and is easy for the regulators to approve because it was previously used and trailed as a MERS vaccine, so it is 6 months or more ahead of the competition.

You shouldn't be relying on masks and gloves, no other country has, yes they can help but it needs more than help, Sweden is now famous for not using them, but look at how effectively they have brought their death rate down, not even exponential, the evidence is against mask use!

You're ignoring too much evidence that mask use works. Your own Medical journal "The Lancet" says masks help HERE as do most US studies HERE as has the CDC for the last week Article HERE . Heck, even Trump who is the most reluctant person in the world to recommend masks is now doing it.

MASKS WORK. Period. Not perfectly and some are better than others but they DO work.

Social distancing still seems to be the most important past alonjg with social responsibility to not go out if you suspect you're unwell- aspects the US has never gotten right, and probably the main reason that we're in such bad shape now.

It is clear that masks work if you are already putting yourself at risk, for example by being within 1 meter of an infected person, but it is much better not to put yourself at risk in the first place because masks are not 100% effective. Maintaining 2m+ and limiting contact time is far more effective. There is still no good study that shows that masks help when used countrywide to fight an epidemic, clearly they are useful in hospital situations with doctor-patient contact.

We will have the answer soon, USA is carrying out the missing trial, we will be able to compare the results of USA relying on masks with Sweden not using them... we already know Sweden has been successful, USA is not looking too good!

The record 57,236 new cases yesterday was surely limited by the amount of testing capacity, nearly 10% of tests were positive.
And if it is correct that a high proportion of those are young people, then even a full lockdown will not prevent figures rising even further as they pass it to their parents and grandparents at the 4th July celebrations tomorrow.

Not sure why CNN would say that. Anthony Fauci gave a lengthy and detailed interview on National Public Radio yesterday evening and he is featured on the media in many outlets on a daily basis. He gave an impassioned and very public appearance in Congress just this past week. He seems to keep popping up everywhere on the media and I am often amazed at his stamina and energy at the age of 79. He did recently mention he hasn't had as much time for his daily power walk work-outs as he'd like. There is a limit to how much the Trump administration can actually muzzle him other than to not have him on the podium with Trump's so called "task force". I suppose Trump could try to fire him but he has been the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases since 1984 and is such a revered and decorated public figure that even Trump knows the backlash that would ensue if he attempted to do so in the middle of a pandemic.

As for Trump's, erratic and irrational behavior it comes as no surprise to anyone who has been paying attention. As far back as three years ago a group of prominent mental health experts led by Yale professor and psychiatrist Brand X. Lee M.D., M.Div. have been warning that he suffers from several serious mental health disorders including malignant narcissism and anti-social personality disorder in their book , The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump - 27 Psychiatrists and Mental Health Experts Assess a President.

This topic is about to get much more attention with the anticipated upcoming release of the related film #UNFIT - "The Nation's Leading Mental Health Experts Examine the Dangerous Behavior of Donald Trump."

COVID-19 has altered the release of the film as it can no longer be publicly screened in theaters as had originally been planned. The film has been completed and they are planning to announce their release strategy soon.

The White House seems to have banned him from talking to CNN, and they have to go through the White House to get an interview!

Also, they have spent the day analysing what he said on BBC radio since he actually talked about the science instead of getting stuck of the politics of masks, and they have some clips!

That seems to have missed out all the dangers of covid-19!
Not a good guide to the pandemic, and some of it is clearly conspiracy theories.

Trump has a well known vendetta against CNN but the claim that he was "banished to the UK" is simply untrue.

Fauci is quite masterful at avoiding partisan politcial BS and focusing on the facts in a congenial informative manner.
