On my Win10 machine, when I click another program into the foreground, all the minor DCV windows (graphs, map, etc) hide. When I bring back DCV to foreground, they all reappear. This is how it should work.

>When I open the Dashcam Viewer program, and click on another program before the main Dashcam Viewer window opens...

When I re-read this it sounded like you are opening DCV and not letting it finish opening before running another program. What happens if you let DCV start up first before running another program?

There is an option to allow child windows to be underneath the main window. You can access this in the Preferences (try unchecking the "Windows Stay On Top"). But I don't think this will affect the issue you're seeing.

John
If I let DCV fully load, then there are no issues, child windows open and hide with the main window.
If I click on another program window before DCV's main window opens, then the child windows are on top of the program I switched to, and will not hide if I continue to work with that program.
Since there's a significant delay, like 1 sec between the child and main window opening, there's a high likely hood that a user would click on another window and trigger this bug.

what's the process again to reload defaults when launching the program?
Run Dashcam Viewer with the Shift-key held down. You will be presented with the nuclear option:

Clicking ‘Yes’ will erase all the stored settings, such as window positions, window sizes, button settings, map settings, and preferences. These settings will revert to defaults. Also note that your registration code will need to be re-entered if you select this option.

Hi,
I've bought a dual dash cam (front 4K & rear 1080p) model 4K dash camera OnReal MG13K W1 (link), with a Hi3559 V200 processor & OS08A10 8MP sensor, H.265 video compression, Wi-fi & GPS.

Can anyone please let me know where I can find a player that can actually read the video & display the correct GPS path ?

I've attached mediainfo files taken from the .mp4 file.

Thanks.
Paulo

send sample files to @traveler to check, most likely the program can be updated to support your model once he has some sample files to work with
Thanks for suggestion!

Will do ;-)

Just saw, on his website, the procedure for submitting the .mp4 files generated by this dash cam!

Dashcam Viewer v3.3.0 Released for Mac and Windows
Dashcam Viewer v3.3.0 was released today for both Mac and Windows. This new version has the following enhancements:

New Camera Supports:
  • Added support for DOD LS475W dashcam
  • Added support for CAMDII K2S dashcam
  • Reported compatible with DOD LS460W
  • Reported compatible with NextBase 612GW
  • Reported compatible with Vantrue X4 UHD.
Bug Fixes:
  • Fixed bug in speed calculation for WheelWitness HD Pro.
  • Improved algorithm for pairing front/rear videos of INNOVV K2 w/0.61 firmware.
  • Fixed bug that could lead to a crash if a geotag was created on a rear video but was invoked when DCV was playing the front video. Affected 2-channel dashcams only.
  • Fixed bug that would invoke the Enter Geotag Title input dialog when a geotag file was imported or a geotag was deleted. This bug was introduced in v3.2.9.
  • AutoVox X2 and JADO d860 only: I haven’t been able to crack how the sign of the longitude is encoded in the data stream. So as a workaround for now, the longitude value is interpreted as positive every other time DCV is started and negative every other time it’s started. So if your position is incorrect on the map, just quit and restart DCV and it will be ok. I will remove this kludge once the encoding scheme has been cracked.

Dashcam Viewer 3.3.0 showing 2-channel CAMDII K2S videos

The free version is fully-functional and allows the loading of up to 2 videos at a time.

Thank you for updates. Just curious, would it be possible for you to implement an audio graph option?

Yes, I've been looking into audio analysis as a side project for Dashcam Viewer. This is very preliminary. One issue is the sheer amount of data to be analyzed-- imagine if you had 500+ videos loaded with a data rate of 22 KHz! Anyway, I'm looking into ways of simplifying the problem space so I can do what I want to do. Stay tuned.

Hi. If I add the **F.mp4 and ***R.mp4 from a Viofo A129 Pro Duo it doesn't seem to recognize the fact that these are dual channel recordings. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong or not.

Hey Traveler,
I just bought my first dashcam yesterday and was browsing around to find a software to view dashcam footages and I stumbled on your thread.
I just wanna say thanks for the awesome work. Your first post dates back to 2014 and you're still here updating your software and the community.

As I was saying, I bought a Viofo A129Pro. On your site, in the supported brands section when I click on Viofo it takes me to this page https://support.viofo.com/support/solutions/articles/19000069190-how-to-view-the-gps-info-for-viofo-a118c-a118c2-a119-a119s

They say to use your software to play video footage and access GPS data but they don't mention the A129Pro

I just wanted to know if your Dashcamviewer supports the new A129 pro 4k resolution and GPS data?

Thanks for the great work again

The A129pro are pretty new so not 100% sure it have support yet, but if it don't work then traveler will make it work if you can forward a couple of raw files from the camera to him.

Thanks @Arese!

I haven't added the A129 Pro Duo to the Dashcam Viewer compatibility list since I don't have video samples to test. However, if the A129 Pro Duo follows the A129 Duo file-naming convention, then it should work. For reference, the A129 Duo file-naming convention looks like this:

2019_0524_114552_003F.MP4
2019_0524_114552_004R.MP4
2019_0524_114853_005F.MP4
2019_0524_114853_006R.MP4

Is the A129 Pro Duo similar?

I have the A129 Pro Duo too, here is an example of the file names:
20191018_171309F.MP4
20191018_171310R.MP4

The rear footage starts a fraction later than the front, hence the 17:13:10 stamp in the name for the rear footage compared to 17:13:09 for the front.

Will the trial let me load 2 files to do PiP?

Good news-- based on the file-naming information provided by @bigjezza, I've added 2-channel PiP support for the A129 Pro Duo to Dashcam Viewer. Expect to see it in the next release (v3.3.1).

Hey, has anyone ever had the opinion that sometimes they'd like a better way to identify cars by their license plates?
YOU KNOW WHAT!?????
It's simple...

SPEAK THE LICENSE PLATES WITH YOUR VOICE

That's what I do.
benefits.
1. Keeps you alert enough to perform the mental gymnastics of looking, reading, speaking. And, you might learn a thing or two.
2. Obviously, when you speak the plates, you have a second vector into getting that information should you even need it.
3. it proves in a court of law that you were NOT drowsy/tired/inattentive/un-engaged, etc.

I wanted to get that out of the way first. Now, voice/dictation IS HUGE right now. Google just showed that dictation in their audio/voice recorder is built in.
As for iOS / Apple walled garden... I use Otter.ai.

So, what I'd like is hardware wise, and UNI-directional, internal mic (ideally/cherry on top... FOOT switch for press-to-turn-on MIC)... aimed/pointed at my mouth, for such license plate dictating.
I'd also love that voice to be converted into file of choice (Notes App --> DashCam Notes --> License plates dictationwith screenshot)
Cherry on top for analytics... tell me if I've encountered that car before, and or anything else interesting .. like more than one car with same plate (I've had two trucks pass me in succession with same plate ... exact same plate number).
Also ideal, be able to connect and send info about that car via app of choice (Message with info for instance)

But in general, I speak the plates that I see in traffic. Now, what would all-ya'll do around this use-case?

calling out the plate for the microphone are always a good idea not least in low light, but i don't know if its me getting old or what, but i find it hard to catch the plates myself, at least at speed.
Maybe a slower town speed i will have more luck with my old and tired eyes, and abused brain.

Video plate capture is nice but too iffy with a dashcam. Audio recording on and speaking the number aloud is indeed the best solution until we get perfect cams. I'm not holding my breath waiting, that is still a long way off.

There is a post (maybe a thread) here on DCT regards DIY ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) and IIRC it seems the mentioned system did have some way of memorizing or bookmarking individual plates. I'm positive that could be done with a purpose-built computer program, but none of this is going to fit into a convenient-sized dashcam case.

I am not quite sure how ANPR or face recognition works in CCTV cameras, weather this happen in the camera or NVR or a combination between the two.
From my perspective it seem like impossible to say keep and save a database of plates or faces in the camera itself, plates maybe as its just a few letters and numbers, but a face you need to have a reference picture to compare against, or a complex mapping of a face, either way this must take up more space than a few letters and numbers.

BUT it would be so cool if dashcams was also able to like event recording's keep a database of plates it have managed to read, and the time/date the plate relate to in the video footage.
but this i recon would necessitate a larger ROM in a dashcam, though this cant add that much to the price of a camera.
And this ad-dons with plates are still one of the really smart things i would like to see in dashcams, much more than lane departure or collision warning ASO
loggin the plates it can - and giving alarm if it see a plate on a list of plates you can create.

Too many
Dahua have some CCTV cameras with ALPR in camera, Axis do some fancy stuff with OpenALPR integration too these days.

Like you guys I speak the plates where needed as even overcast conditions can ruin chances of a plate capture, I usually say it multiple times as well just in case along with a good bout of tourettes mixed in.

For now it's probably best to just take dashcam footage and run it through something like OpenALPR which has been trained to recognise plates from many countries - it's not free but to be honest anything in that space will get snapped up and commercialised.

Rekor who own OpenALPR are now winning work with the US military - it's all clever stuff.

I ran it as a test for a month and it was great and I'd happily pay the license fee - it resulted in a couple of untaxed and uninsured vehicles where we live getting taken off the road.

My CCTV software integrates with https://platerecognizer.com/ - I gave it a go and so far it didn't seem so good on the UK plates as OpenALPR but I'm guessing was tuned more for it's native market (ie US & Canada).
