Good news-- based on the file-naming information provided by @bigjezza, I've added 2-channel PiP support for the A129 Pro Duo to Dashcam Viewer. Expect to see it in the next release (v3.3.1).
Great news!
Sorry I still haven't received the dashcam as I ordered it online last Saturday night.
@bigjezza shared with you the file-naming convention, if for whatever reason you also need a raw file from the A129pro pm pe and I'll send you one as soon as my dashcam is set up (next weekend)

Also question, I'm not planning to use the rear camera. Will I still be able to view front footage with dashcam viewer without issue?

You guys are amazingly full of good information and ideas. The 'lot' of us should create a start-up company on Kickstarter! :)

Dashcam Viewer v3.3.1 Released for Mac and Windows

Dashcam Viewer v3.3.1 was released today for both Mac and Windows. This new version has the following enhancements:
New Camera Supports:
  • Added support for Viofo A129 Pro Duo (thanks @bigjezza)
General Improvements:
  • The default video mode is to fill screen rather than maintain aspect ratio. This can be changed in Prefs.

Fill versus Maintain Aspect video modes can be toggled in the Preferences

The free version is fully-functional and allows the loading of up to 2 videos at a time.

Dahua have some CCTV cameras with ALPR in camera, Axis do some fancy stuff with OpenALPR integration too these days.

Like you guys I speak the plates where needed as even overcast conditions can ruin chances of a plate capture, I usually say it multiple times as well just in case along with a good bout of tourettes mixed in.

For now it's probably best to just take dashcam footage and run it through something like OpenALPR which has been trained to recognise plates from many countries - it's not free but to be honest anything in that space will get snapped up and commercialised.

Rekor who own OpenALPR are now winning work with the US military - it's all clever stuff.

I ran it as a test for a month and it was great and I'd happily pay the license fee - it resulted in a couple of untaxed and uninsured vehicles where we live getting taken off the road.

My CCTV software integrates with https://platerecognizer.com/ - I gave it a go and so far it didn't seem so good on the UK plates as OpenALPR but I'm guessing was tuned more for it's native market (ie US & Canada).
Interesting post, @reverend. A long time ago I looked into license plate detection for Dashcam Viewer using OpenCV but didn't get very far. These two ALPR services look like a good turn-key solution. As a test, I submitted a still frame from my dashcam containing the license plate of the guy who hit-and-ran into me. Unfortunately both services could not read the plate (I'm not surprised. It was dark and the LP was very blurry) . Will investigate more.

I wanted to try Dashcam Viewer before buying a license, but when installing the K-Lite Codec Pack Basic, the Trojan Total Virus website notified me
Please help. @traveler

@traveler - sorry to hear that - did they get them based off the license you got from that video?

I did find that these solutions would need a fairly good source - basically if it wasn't human readable then they would struggle too. I might have to pay for a year of OpenALPR as it was very useful.

I tried a very basic script with OpenALPR and ran a quick check against some numbers it pulled to check for tax / insurance and sure enough it picked up a few - unsurprisingly all living at or visiting the same address.

So far two of them were caught and cars seized (y) They had a policeman living opposite for three years - you'd have thought they'd have behaved a bit better!

@traveler Yes, download K-Lite Codec Pack Basic from the link of https://dashcamviewer.com/
I am very interested in dashcam viewer, but virus free.
What I can do? Thank you.

@Juanmontequinto I'm not an expert but it looks like all the other virus detectors in your list did not find the issue. My guess is that it is a false positive. I've never received a customer complaint about malware/viruses with Dashcam Viewer.

Sadly, no. The end result was that the perp no longer lived at his registered address. The cops gave up at that point.

Well if the cloud-based ALPR solutions are no better than a humanoid, then I'm not sure it's worth putting ALPR tech into Dashcam Viewer! Perhaps I'll wait until the tech matures a bit.

I guess the perps are getting bolder, or the cops are getting lazier. ;)

Wish they would do that here. For no insurance/ improper registration here the car gets impounded but the owner can arrange to have it towed back home where they can do it again- and again- and again  You used to be able to drive it off from the impound lot for these offenses but they've stopped that now- you have to prove you're car is legal before they can release it or it has to be towed out, but you can still get it back.

Back in my very misspent youth I learned something your SAS has for it's motto: "Who dares, wins". I've bluffed/fooled/conned my way past 'security' thousands of times by simply appearing 'normal' and by doing things which everyone else saw as "Nobody would be THAT stupid or THAT daring" so they let me sneak right by  Only the tightest and most professional security measures actually work and there's not that level of things going on with most Police who are generally overloaded anyway and not looking to do even more. If you keep a cool head and act as if everything is normal, that's what everyone will believe as long as nobody takes a deeper look
