Does having a dash cam affect your driving?

Every time anyone brings up increasing the Highway speed , the retards go into a fit foaming at the mouth about how an extra 10KMH is going to kill thousands of people ..
Exactly the same thing occurred when they went from 100 to 110 ...
The doom and gloom crowd predicted destruction on a unprecedented scale , they were some what disappointed when sweet "F" all happened from the norm ..

40 years ago the speed limit was 100kph .. Cars were Rubbish , brakes were rubbish , suspension was rubbish and tires were rubbish ..
2017 and cars are sooooo much better , the open road speed is 110kph
Obviously the stupid people might have problems @ 120kph , but those same people will have exactly the same problems @ 110kph or 100
Numbers for that are higher up here, i would say driving 80 km/h on a highway 90 % of cars coming up from behind will pass me.
It is actually at a level that if a car do not pass me, then i am applauding that out loud in my car, mostly after a while of the car not overtaking, and then saying "well i am a fooking mazed"
To reach your numbers i estimate i would have to be going 90 km/h where 80 is the limit.

Here 6% of the speed is factored off to account for any loss/gains in mesuring equipment.

We had 1% for a short time .. And they found that 1000's of motorists were fined wrongly ...
It was only with the advent of GPS data logging , that some one with a good lawyer took the state to court and said HEY !!!!
ASS Holes , my GPS data say's I was not speeding ... So why did I get a ticket ?
So after testing his GPS etc , it was found to be accurate and the state had to drop the 1% thing as the cameras and system in place was not accurate enough for such a tight tolerance . ( towards speeding )
In fact the cameras themselves were inducing false readings due to the wind moving the camera mounts . ( was it up to 20% error or more )
I have no idea what the tolerance is currently ? ( Victoria Australia , is it back to 5% )

Just do the speed limit, stop at stop signs and red lights, use turn signals, don't tailgate, and you will be surrounded by angry people who think YOU are the bad driver. 🙂
That's what I do every day but look what happened: I used to send clips of blatant stop sign runners, dangerous situations that happened to me or other drivers, cut offs, speeders and other situations, to the YT channel Best Of Dashcam Europe, but most of the time they weren't included because the guy said they were just normal occurences, therefore not very interesting. 😵 I'm sure many of us don't consider any of those situations to be normal and in fact he included lots of similar situations from other countries. Apparently the same stop sign running, cut offs, etc are more dangerous and WAY more interesting in Germany, Holland, Belgium, France and Poland (to name a few) than in Portugal. 😕
I stopped sending clips for a while but during the Summer I had several close call situations happening to me, so I sent them. He included all of them in the next compilation and lots of "expert commentators" said I was driving like a maniac! I mean, I was minding my own business, driving normally, had to avoid head-on collisions several times and I was the maniac?!? 😡
Now you know why I highlighted the past tense of the verb "to use".

On the same note, many of my portuguese viewers think I exaggerate when I stop (as in fully imobilize the vehicle) at EVERY stop sign. They say that in many cases there's clear visibility for both sides of the street/road I'm turning into, so I don't have to stop. 😕 Really?!? 😱

It's this "it's ok to bend the rules when it suits us" mindset that has lead us to the state of bad driving we have today. And it's also rearing its ugly head in many other aspects of daily life.

Over here the motorways' max speed limit is 120km/h but there's an "unwritten" rule among the Police not to fine anyone up to 10% of that limit, which is 132km/h. It's considered by all involved in road safety that 132 isn't that much unsafe than 120, the motorways are better, most of them have more lanes, the vehicles are better than they were 20 years ago, so why don't the Road Safety Authority change the limit to 130km/h, since the bulk of traffic already travels at that speed and no one is fined for being over the current limit? 😕

Yeah people want deformed metal and gore 🙄

Here the default motorway speed is 130, but there are lots of stretches where 110 are the max, guess where the cops are when they are out measuring people 😉

And rightfully so cuz people just keep going at the 140 - 150 they where doing on the 130 part of the road, cuz they can always say i dident see the sign, and i think the reasoning that justify it to them self getting a hefty fine.

And to be honest the NAV units and apps you can get for your phone/tablet that can signal when you are going too fast often miss the handover spots on the motorways where it change from 130 to 110.
Not that it in itself are a issue people should be able to drive the right speed without a app, i just think the general mentality carry over from people driving to the people making and maintaining the app.

I have also been flamed for posting those little things on my youtube channel, in those cases i just hope the flaming person have himself or his loved ones killed by a person driving and updating his facetwitt with a picture of the cupcake he just had before he left home.

And then they can see how stupid they feel when their loved-ones have been killed for the price of a picture of a cupcake on facetwitt.
And then they are welcome to get back to me and tell me about it.

Now i dont think its a little thing operating your phone while driving, but not long ago i dident cuz i was that kind of person myself, but i am happy to report i have grown a brain 🙂

Yet their compilations are filled with clips exactly like mine. Go figure.

That's why I wrote "the motorways' max speed limit" because there are stretches af motorway that were "adapted" from former freeways/highways whose bends' radius were not design for motorway speeds, therefore the speed limit in those bends is usually 110 or even 100. But all the purpose-built motorways have the max speed limit throughout their length.

I can't speak for other places but here in the U.S. it's because most of those politicians authorizing the increase someday will either run for reelection or try to get elected to an office. If they advocate for increasing speed limits their opponent(s) will jump all over that during the campaigning and accuse them of being insensitive to public safety and promoting carnage on the roadways. As a result they don't promote or endorse the increased limits because they are looking out for their future careers.

We just went through this in Michigan where limits on some highways are in the process of being increased from 70 to 75 MPH and the 'hand wringing' was almost laughable because the average actual speed on those stretches where the limit is being increased is already over 80MPH (I know because I drive them regularly) - but come the next election cycle I can assure you that it will become a campaign issue raised by the opponents of those who were in favor of the increase. 🙁😡

Politics 🙄 it is a huge stinking pie and we all have to take a bite.

I wish there was some consistency in enforcement. There's a divide between what the speed signs say and what you can do without risk of prosecution. And that's annoying. It turns the whole thing into a silly game of what you can get away with, and some people love to play that game.

We're getting a lot of average speed check zones, which I think can be fairer (you don't get punished for a momentary lapse of concentration or a need to negotiate a situation.) But even though your bound to be detected going consistently over the limit, people do so anyway by 10 or 20mph. Either they know the authorities are turning a blind eye, or they don't care about being caught.

Unfortunately another issue where sanity has too small apart to play ..
Seems emotions and rhetoric and propaganda are the order of the day ...

I would simply like to see a Factual test without the hysterics ..

Over here it's not about election cycles or candidates who don't want to compromise their chances, it's about people in high places that decide things without having real knowledge about them but don't listen to those who have that knowledge.

Oh, that occurs here as well. 🙁
