Looking for a 4-channel dashcam setup for driving + multi-day parking in Austria

Thanks, both of you — that gives me a much better idea of the options.

For reference, my car is a 2012 Citroën C3 II, so a fairly small 5-door hatchback.

The examples with small remote cameras mounted on fixed rear side glass are especially interesting for me, and the thin MCX cables used by the newer VIOFO systems would obviously make a clean installation much easier.

For now I’ll probably wait and see what happens around October 1st before buying anything.

Also, just as a small note: I’m not a native English speaker and I’m not an English expert, so I use AI mainly to correct my sentence structure and grammar before posting here. The technical questions and content are still my own.

Have you found any interior mounting position for side coverage that came reasonably close to the external mirror-mounted cameras?
Not really, but I’ve found depending on the type of car you might get a better POV mounting the IR Interior camera on the rear window looking forward.
The current RCC360 2K Infrared Fisheye Cabin Camera with the A329S was a big improvement in FOV, and resolution over the previous IR Interior camera from the A229 Pro.
However, it lost the dedicated photo / light sensor that made switching from full color to infrared black & white much less accurate, (two steps forward, one step back).
Check out the difference in FOV, and resolution with these two videos;

HAHA funny, i drive a 2022 C3 i got a couple of months ago

I understand German better than most Danes, even if i am entirely self taught in that language too. Mostly from before i actually got that language in school so i was extremely under stimulated in English and German class, so most times i was outside class or at the principals office which in turn just sent me to the library where i could read what i pleased.
But as a consequence, writing it is extremely bad though English soon got better getting on the internet later on in life.
But no problem reading German texts or watching their TV stations, though i must admit the synced voices in movies, it is pretty strange to hear John Wayne talk German.

😳 Hände hoch.

Thanks, both of you — that’s really useful.

@Chuck McCoy, the rear-window-facing-forward position for the RCC360 is definitely something I would try if I end up going with the A329S. In a small hatchback that might actually give a better view through both side windows than mounting the cabin camera at the front.

The comparison with the older A229 Pro interior camera is interesting as well. The wider FOV and higher resolution are a clear improvement, although losing the dedicated light sensor sounds like a bit of a trade-off if the automatic colour/IR switching is less reliable.

@kamkar, funny coincidence that you drive a C3 as well 😄 Mine is the older 2012 C3 II, but the overall size and hatchback layout are at least somewhat comparable.

And for me it’s actually the other way around with dubbed movies 😄 English voices often sound a bit less expressive to me, while German somehow feels much more intense and full of emotion.

For now, the A329S with the RCC360 mounted at the rear and looking forward is definitely one of the setups I would test before deciding whether I really need dedicated side cameras.

This is what I’m talking about when I say "accuracy of photo / light sensor”.
Watch when I drive into the gas station and stop under direct illumination from the overhead lights.
A229 Pro IR Interior camera automatically switches to full color, and back to IR B&W when ambient light drops below a curtain point.
A329S IR Interior camera never switches to full color, and stays IR B&W the whole time.
Same gas station by the way.

Yeah, now I see exactly what you meant 😄 Shame they dropped the dedicated light sensor — hopefully whatever is coming next improves on that again.

For now I’ll just wait and see what shows up this autumn, especially after you told me to come back on October 1st.

Also, I’m writing all of this from my phone at the moment, so longer replies are a bit painful to type 😄

For now, the A329S with the RCC360 mounted at the rear and looking forward is definitely one of the setups I would test before deciding whether I really need dedicated side cameras.
The Viofo A329S works perfectly with two RCC360 units simultaneously.
For vehicle monitoring while parked, I would recommend the A329S plus two RCC360s.
Mount the A329S facing forward and the two RCC360s on the left and right side windows.
The RCC360 is available with cables of various lengths; since the cables are thin, hiding a 6-meter cable is no problem.
You can install any single-channel model on the rear window.

There is an alternative to the A229 Pro: the RNF210. It has a pretty decent field of view.

If your parking area has streetlights, Viofo models featuring the "Super Night Vision" (SNV) parking mode will be a great help.

That’s actually very interesting — I didn’t realise the A329S could run two RCC360s at the same time.

Front + one RCC360 on each side, with a separate small rear camera, would get very close to the coverage I originally wanted while keeping everything inside the car. The thin cables also make that a lot more practical.

SNV looks useful as well, especially since the car is often parked under streetlights.

I’ll definitely keep this setup in mind, but for now I’ll still wait and see what appears around October 1st before buying anything.

@Chuck McCoy I have to ask, have you even been pulled over on the count of that beard ?

PS: Saw yesterday ZZ top drummer died.

@Karagandinez, since you’re from Germany, have you ever been stopped by the police with a dashcam installed, or had them comment on it?

And do you happen to know how this is usually handled here in Austria? The rules seem a bit stricter here, especially when it comes to parking mode and recording public areas.

I have four different models plus a telephoto camera mounted on my windshield. They are visible from the outside.
I recently spoke with traffic police about a trailer, and they didn't say or ask anything about the cameras.
Admittedly, they didn't check my documents or my vehicle.
I drive to the Czech Republic very often. Neither at the border nor within the country itself has anyone raised any questions about the dash cams.

Thanks, that’s good to know — especially with that many cameras being clearly visible.

Didn't see it mentioned here, but the Vantrue N5S will give you similar coverage to the setup Chuck showcased in his videos, with the main benefit being ease of installation as the exterior-facing and interior-facing cameras are both integrated into the front and rear units. There's quite a lot of info in the subforum for this model so I suggest taking a look there: https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/forums/n5s.461/

Thanks, I’ve actually been looking at the N5S as well. The integrated 4-channel setup definitely makes it much cleaner and easier to install than using separate side cameras.

I’ll have a look through the N5S subforum too. For now it’s probably one of my top options alongside the A329S, while I wait to see what appears this autumn.

Thanks, I’ll have a look at the E360 as well. The easy installation is interesting, although night performance and parking-mode efficiency are pretty important for me, so I’m not sure it would be the best fit.

The Android HU + 4-camera idea is interesting too, but I’d prefer to keep the setup as simple and reliable as possible.
