M2 Discussion

So I was planning to move my 'collectible' V1 mobius to the rear screen and get a new M2 cam to go in the front. Looks like I should wait a while before deciding on an M2, or jvX or similar discrete form camera.

I'll be interested to see the M1/M2 comparison mentioned earlier - I was planning to make my own if I go for the M2.

I noticed new M1/M2 comparison still frames have appeared on eletoponline365's eBay listing.

The WDR comparison is interesting, as the different fov means the bridge occupies more of the sky in the M1 view yet it is still much darker. It looks like the M2 has chosen a better exposure for the backlit conditions.

In the second comparison there does appear to be more detail from the M2. Again the M2 has set a brighter exposure.

The darker picture of the M1 is the normal Aptina sensor's reaction to those light conditions.

So one thing I really haven't seen yet is actual dashcam footage. So maybe it won't be as versatile as the original, but how does it perform as a dashcam? Looking forward to some videos.

One of our long time customers bought one from China and has sent it back due to the poor quality. I can send him a message and see if he will sign up and post the footage on here.

it needs work for dashcam use, the old Mobius is better right now

It needs work straight across the board.

And as if to put a cherry on top of the list of previous features and capabilities not brought forward to the Mobius 2 from the Mobius 1, there is no longer the industry standard DCIM folder in the directory which results in it now being impossible to directly load video to an iPad or smartphone when out on the road.

At least it stay at 60 FPS in low light when selected, and don't seem to do any frame doubling to make 30 FPS look like 60 FPS.
At least we will see FW updated for the M2, and if M1 is the Benchmark in that regard we will see more FW updates for the m2 than several other brands do in a year for their entire product range.

So far I am having trouble playing the 60 fps video in several different media players without big time stuttering. MPlayerX works well but only plays the 60fps footage in slow motion, even when I increase the playback speeds manually.

Use H264, H265 just kill my sisters dualcore HP laptop, actually it cant even play them.
And it don't even do too good with the H264 files :( this laptop is BS its like a casio watch compared to my computer at home.

I have some M1 Vs M2 low light footage from the window comming 60 FPS M2 Vs 30 FPS M1 recording, BUT ! can only do youtube here dont have my PW to be able to UL raw footage to mega.

Okay here we go,.
First up is the M2, set to 1080/60 and with the standard bitrate.

Next up the M1 set to 1080/30 - WDR ON

I have gone over the 60 FPS footage from the M2 using registrator viewer, and when the car pass by i see movement on it for every time i press the "N" key to advance 1 frame in the footage.

I have then tried to set the M2 to 1080/30 and hey presto it was much more light sensetive + you can add WDR for the 30 FPS setting ( not possible with 60 FPS )

I have to say I was surprised to see that they had changed the file format, really not sure what they are doing at this time, I think with the Mobius 1 it was aimed at the RC crowd and picked up a bit of a following for dashcam use and they supported that the best they could even though it wasn't the core audience for the product, with this one they're been using dashcam type views in their own marketing on eBay like it's a group they want to market to but it seems like the betas go to Tom for testing and he doesn't use in car and is only testing for his own tastes and the things he thinks are important for RC use, yet they supply half cables and changed the directory structure so it's not really good for the RC crowd either, not really sure what to make of the direction they are headed with this

Here is a couple of low light frame grabs

As you guys can see there is a lot of noise in the low light footage from the M2

I would like to withdraw my earlier statement about 30 FPS making the M2 " much more light sensitive"

I was not testing under the same conditions, but testing again under same conditions i see that's not true.

I can't imagine what the Mobius guys were thinking here. They seem to have seriously dropped the ball here in a multitude of ways and have done so after an unusually lengthy gestation period.

You are right about Tom Franks, but our own @Isoprop has spoken of working with pre-production M2s. After all, at the very least he would need a couple of M2s to facilitate his amazing Mobius programming efforts. And more recently, has reported here on DCT about Mobius dash cam footage he's been shooting. So @Isoprop, if you have their ear?

I also filmed my sisters great Dane dog earlier today, most of the time the dog come off much less brown than it really is, granted it is a light brown fur, but for the most its only half as brown as IRL.

If i have no sky in the footage the camera do a alright job with the colors, maybe a little over saturated.

When i see tree, detail on street then has conclusion: Light balance in mobius 2 is centrel. While mobius 1 is average.
That make me remember: we can't change light balance in mobius. What's a pity.

Hi, New member, Joined JUST for the M2

I have been a longtime owner of the M1's, using 1 in every car(racecar has 6, all feeding a DVR, without the DVR it was painful) and my Escort daily has 2(i seriously put one in the rear windshield just as a backup cam, laugh it up)

I saw the M2 news in april and now i ask, whats the deal with the M2?

Sounds like its got issues keeping the M1 a better pick? I loved my M1 minus the awful low light performance in the racecar(I don't have room for 6 Sony SR12's >.>, that was a nightmare)

whats the current issues with the M2 and should I wait for them to get worked out??

Nice to be here :)
