To all owners, I've got a couple prepurchase questions. I'm looking at this camera for its size and specs. I will most likely be using it outside though, and to top it off, as DVR/Dash cam. So I had a few questions:

1) I intend to use an external source with the battery. Essentially, plug it on a usb cable. From what I've read, as soon as I would turn the power on, the Mobius should turn itself on on its own and start recording in mode 1, correct?

2) Anyone went ahead and waterproofed their Mobius on their own? I see a rubber wrap around on ebay for the camera but it looked a bit flimsy...

3) Would it be possible to just use one of those lens extensions for the Mobius Action cam? I get confused with all the #8, #16, etc right now. Are these parts compatible?

1) Correct

2) For some ideas see...

If waterproofing is a major issue, you may want to look at the SJ1000. Review at...

Beware of fake SJ1000s. For a genuine one, stick to reliable sellers, e.g...

3) If you mean separating lens from body via wire, there's a choice of two cable lengths.

Thanks for the reply!

I saw the SJ1000. Perhaps it's just an idea but the quality on the mobius seems better, sharper even, from the clips I saw. Could more easily read license plates too. Maybe I'm wrong though?

The TicTac case isn't a bad idea. I keep reading many comments about how he Mobius gets really warm. How bad is it really?
I found a thread where a guy took the older cam #26 waterproof case, trimmed some of the side inside and could fit the Mobius. It'd just get insanely hot.

Lets put it this way, I wouldn't like the heatsink to touch any of the plastic parts in my car.
How about the plastic casing around the heatsink?

I did some digging, the highest recorded temperature I could find in a thread is 149 degrees F (65 degrees C).

A different test showed a maximum of 140 degrees F (60 degrees C).

Cheers guys! Thanks a lot for the info. I thought about the Mobius after the motorcycle dash cam thing. Looks like it could be an interesting route. I'll definitely check into that.

Nice, with an aluminium case - most likely the entire case is the heatsink? That would be a good idea for the Mobius. (But then people might end up dropping it due to burnt fingers! :) )

Agreed it's a nice approach; and with that surface area it should not get that hot. [But it's been decades since I did any heatsink area vs wattage vs temp rise calculations...]

It also has a switch on the side.

I like its LED color table; I can never recall what blinks means what on the Mobius when connected via USB.

When you spread the heat over a larger area, it's not as concentrated (hot) and there's more surface area for cooling. My best guess is that the case will be warm, but not too hot that it burns.

always nice when your dashcam doesn't start any fires I think :)

I was joking guys! Hence the smile at the end. (I'm an electronics tech so have played a bit with heatsinks)

If the case had fins on it (more surface area) then it would be better. If it's thin aluminium then it might still get hot spots.
