Mobius Telephoto Dashcam

Two new 4mm lenses arrived today :)
I was very impressed with the customer service from AliExpress seller "Fulekan", checking my intended use of the lenses to ensure compatibility before purchase and happy to apply the IR cut filters for free. I'm also happy with the excellent quality packaging which is better than most lens shipments I have received.

I appreciate they're not really telephoto lenses as discussed earlier, but I decided to share here in case anyone else is thinking about ordering from this seller.

I'm planning to compare the 4mm F1.5 to my 4mm F1.2, which I am finding tricky to focus.

The 8MP 4mm F2.0 is for my GitUp F1, to try as a 100 degree FOV alternative to the standard 160 degree F2.8 lens.

cuz in the back i feel just as strong about a "zoom" lens as i do in the front.

From what I've observed for the rear, no need to go too narrow, 4 or 6 mm (maximum 8) should be sufficient. As all the "action" is coming towards the camera, the wide-angle cameras pick up almost all license plates.

How do you replace the lens on the Gitup F1? I can't find any information about lens replacement on that camera

Open the case. Cut away the glue securing the lens to the holder, and around the locking collar. Twist out and replace. In my case the locking collar remained glued in place on the lens threads, which makes it easier to put the lens back in its original position. Note that I marked both the lens holder and barrel prior to making any adjustments.

I'm looking forward to your observations/video on the 4mm f1.5 lens from fulekan seller on AliExpress. I think that 1,5 is a proprietary lens from some manufacture. I really wish they would say who makes the lenses instead of just the seller!

I'll cover this in more detail in my F1 thread, but here's the new 4mm 8MP lens in the F1.

The F1 is not quite so easy to work with as a Mobius - you need to remove the battery before you can undo the screws, then you have to prise apart the case which risks damaging the antenna. When it is open you cannot power it off the battery (unless you can clamp it down onto the spring connectors). You can power it by USB cable, then use the Wi-Fi app to focus using the live video output. Edit: The F1 does not support video out over USB as a webcam like the Mobius.

There's no set screw, but the lens holder is metal :)

There's plenty of clearance for different sizes of third-party lenses, even with the clip-on lens protector in place.

Rear

8mm (1/2.7"), f/1.5

8mm (1/2.7"), f/1.5 and A119S (CPL)

The new lens looks great and does an excellent job of capturing license plates and people inside their cars.

From the perspective of an American driver it's kind of amazing to see so many cars constantly weaving in and out of the traffic flow, changing lanes and jockeying for position, so I can definitely see the value of the new telephoto in conjunction with the wider A119S. In some ways, it almost might may sense to use the even wider A119 in the rear in case someone clips the rear corner of your car so that it might be be caught on camera. With my pick-up truck it's been important to capture what is going on on either side of the bed in the rear and so that's influenced my choice of lens focal length. If I add a telephoto in the rear I think I might consider a slightly wider lens for the primary camera.

Yup, even though it sounds repetitive, I really like this lens.

As long as I'm in the right lane and at the prescribed or appropriate speed, mostly I ignore the honkers and flashers. If possible I'll move a bit left or right and give way but only if it feels absolutely safe.

Looking at the footage I was imagining what the 12mm would look like, at times even the 8mm looks a bit much for the rear. I do intend to try out the 6mm f/1.2 as well.

Tested the M2 looking into the cabin. Was looking at a couple of night time clips, picks up license plates of most cars whizzing by. Hoping with a bit of tweaking in mSetup I'm able to achieve some sort of side coverage that works reasonably well both day and night.

I'm trying to come up with a method for testing. I have the 16mm from ScopeCam, a 25mm that I ordered accidentally, the 3 lens set from Amazon, and just got an 8mm from Public Lab. I may just print a standard camera testing target on my laser printer which in theory should be about 24 megapixels (laser printer is 600dpi) and set it up as far as I can and see if any of these lenses maxes out the sensor

Despite its various shortcomings, the M2 with the latest FW does a decent job of capturing license plates due to adopting very short exposure durations. In this regard it is probably better than most of my other camera & lens combinations at 1080p60.

Popped the new 4mm F1.5 into a Mobius 1 tonight. I'll be running it side by side with my 4mm F1.2 in another M1.

Does the M2 support timelapse? It seems that the Mobius Mini doesn't

The M2 supports time lapse photos, taking pictures continuously in photo mode. You will need a separate editor to combine these into a video.
Set Time Lapse Shooting=[0]; 0ff,1:0.25s,2:0.5s,3:1s,4:2s,5:5s,6:10s,7:30s,8:60s

The M2 does not support time lapse video, where still frames taken at specified intervals are automatically combined into a 30 fps video. The M1 can do this.

Mobius 1 with 4mm 1/2.5" 3MP F1.5 lens

The F1.5 is much more compact than the F1.2. The F1.5 threaded lens barrel fits within the case without any modification to the lens opening, whereas I have trimmed the other case to fit the wider barrel of the F1.2 lens.

The Public Lab 8mm lens required modifying the housing, I just cut the flange at the groove using a wire cutter. Here are some screenshots
