I agree, close is quite okay if its allso really slow and considerate, and i think this was just that.
Even here that guy would have a tough time crossing the road at a zeebra crossing here, cars turning in the intersection some times get "close" to ppl walking there.
i've had a guy start rolling into the intersection while i was walking in the crossing in front of him - he had a red light and was looking left so he could make a legal right on red. problem is, he wasn't looking at the 20 or so pedestrians directly in front of him. as he started to roll i reached up and smacked his hood which made a nice loud noise since i had a medical wrist brace on, which has a metal bar on the bottom (inside the fabric). didn't damage his hood but it sure got his attention and made him stop!
