Reviewing and Testing the Vantrue S1 Pro Max

What if you put a small piece of 3m tape from the camera to the plastic trim above it?
If the gap is too big just put 2 or 3 pieces on top of each other.
Just a thought I had.

That isn't an option for everyone. The car where I have the camera mounted has wires tucked into that area and doesn't sit tight against the windshield even without the wires. So tucking the camera there wouldn't be an option for me.

This was just a suggestion for Tony to try.
I know that this is an individual case.
My mount also shows some movement. Even when using the single hinge.

Here is a still from last night's drive. It's about 9:45p, so the sun has set quite a while ago and it's dark. I am in the middle lane, moving at 75mph, passing a truck that is in the right lane.

And here are the closeup images, zoomed 200% from each of the three cameras that are in my car. HDR is off and PlatePix is enabled on the two Vantrue cameras. Given past discussions, it is unclear whether PlatePix is functioning because HDR is off. None of these images are useful for identification. It might be interesting to repeat this with HDR enabled to see what happens.

Vantrue N4S renders the best image, but still a clear miss.

Can you upload the original video to a file sharing service and provide a link to the forum?

Does this make the S1 Pro Max Vantrue's flagship since it has dual 4k and the all new and trending "AI"?

I guess it depends on how many channels you want. The S1 Pro Max is a Front + Rear 4K. We're testing out the rear camera mount design though. Vantrue has suggested we connect the bottom mount to camera with 3M tape due to vibrations. Picture quality is EXCELLENT.

And image quality is even BETTER when you mount the rear camera outside of the car!

@gse I’ll need to look if I still have the original file. My hard drive was getting clogged by many, many gigs of driving videos, so most of them were purged a day or so ago…

hi i want to know there are two pcs master chip nt98529 in s1promax ?

Thanks to all the reviewers' writeups here, I have finally installed my S1 pro max with RC11 rear cam.

It's connected to my iRoad Power Pack Plus. Based on the power pack stats report, it appears that I have a slightly different power draw.

In driving mode, with gps, wifi and screen turned on

Parking mode with quick start collision detection, screen off.

@dinkydong you appear to have a well-stocked garage 😉

Your power draw figure is just about 8w, which is consistent with my measurements.

Thats not my garage, wished it was.

Yes, the driving recording power draw is about the same, i think the difference is in the parking mode power draw. The S1 pro max power draw is still a little high for parking mode collision detection as compared to the Viofo 329s. I dont suppose its something a firmware tweak can improve upon?

@TonyM @Jeff_Vantrue

The 3M tape does resolve most of the vibration issue. Here is my car on a bumpy road. The only drawback is the camera sits further from rear windshield and gets more glare. You can also see the 2 other dashcams I have mounted beside it.

I will attempt to move the S1 Pro Max to another location and see if it will remain secure without vibrations and generate less glare.

See Video:

That looks much improved - looking at the rear dash and defrost lines, it looks pretty sable.

Agreed. So Vantrue's suggestion does work. When I get a bit of time, I may adjust placement of S1 Pro Max and see about glare / placing closer to windshield.

I just made a large number of comparison images between the S1 Pro Max and the N4 Pro S camera. Seems silly to duplicate everything here, so here is the link to my other thread. The whole page is filled with comparisons.

I bought and installed the S1 Pro Max. The power consumption in parking mode with motion detection is quite high with 9 Watts. Which are you using for parking mode ?
And there's something that I don't like at all: the round button in the middle is blinking constantly while recording, why and how can I stop that ?

stop it in app

@EricSan posted some power consumption values earlier in this thread (Post 19)

I'm not sure why you are getting 9W in motion detection mode compared to 6.6W that Eric measured. Are you sure the dashcam has switched from normal to parking mode?

I think most people use either Low Bitrate or Collision Detection mode (quick start). I was using low bitrate and just switched back to collision detection for further testing.

There is an option in the system setup menu to disable the recording indicator. That will turn off the green light completely.
Some users have asked Vantrue if the indicator can be always-on, not flashing.

@TonyM My Jackery Powerbank shows me the usage on the output. I'm not quite sure how long it is in parking mode, but it definitely enters it, because there are a lot of videos recorded and saved in the parking folder, so it does enter the mode.
I haven't stayed in the car to see the consumption while parking, but since the Jackery has 99 Wh and a full battery is empty when I arrive after 12 hours, I was assuming the consumption stayed that high. I'll test that

Having been down this road before, I would say that the display on your power bank (and in the app) is very likely inaccurate. The current draw for each of the dashcams that I've measured fluctuates quite a bit over time. In order to obtain a realistic power consumption measurement, you need a way to make both instantaneous and average current readings over time with an outboard meter that has known performance characteristics.
