SJCAM SJ7 Star Cam - Real 4K Ambarella A12 Sony IMX117 Touch Screen Mic Gyro

I have not tried but i think you should have full menu/settings control using the buttons too.
As for the WP housing there is 2 back doors, the hard old type and then the new soft type that let you operate screen while in the case.
I have yet to give the 2 housings a workout as i am waiting for better weather as i want to stick them into my friends garden pond with the fish in it.

I dont think the screen will be workable with gloved fingers, but this i can not test as i dont own a pair of gloves.
But i think i read somewhere that the soft door will not work if you have neoprene dive gloves on, i think i saw that somewhere.

The latest version V1.05 firmware + Changelog are ready for testing. Please PM me your email or email directly if you want the download link. Thanks

whats the problem with a frame like that ones that came with the sjcam cams before??

this very cheap thin plastic frame is a pain in the a**, i hope soweone will make a better one like the old one....better and faster to put the cam in an with 1/4 on both sides....

@sjcam_official : (in my oppinion) that is a big fail!

Which frame are you talking about?

this two, the old one is way better as the new one!
Thanks for the explanation.

We have passed this onto our dev team. If the older one was offered as a separate accessory, would many of you buy it?

I agree. The new one looks slick but in in my opinion the old one works better for three reasons. First, you can slide the camera into it while leaving the clip mounted. With the frame mount you must remove it in order to remove the camera. Second, the old one cleverly had 1/4" connections top and bottom so you could mount it upside down. I suppose that might not be an issue if the camera has the ability to invert the image but still. Third, you can slide the camera into the clip with cables attached. For example, I use my SJ4000 as a dash cam and it's much easier for me to attach the USB cable from my 12V DC adapter while I'm holding the camera in hand, rather than trying to plug in the micro USB when it's up against the windshield. 🙂

EDIT: But one problem with my SJ4000 clip is that the 1/4" bushing isn't deep enough. Mounting screws always bottom out in the bushing whereas they would be more stable if the bushing was longer.

yes. i would devinitly buy more than one!

because like terry said, the old design is much faster.....

The SJ4000 WiFi I bought a year-and-a-half ago was my first action cam. I had many questions at that time because SJCam documentation, whether hardcopy included with the camera or online information from SJCam or the seller (in my case B&H Photo Video in the US) was lacking. One question I asked SJCam customer service was whether anti-shake worked with videos, photos or both. The response from SJCam was that anti-shake was for videos only, not photos. I later discovered this was incorrect.

Now on SJCam's web page for the SJ7 there's a section titled, "Gyro Anti-Shake to stabilize movement". It goes on to read, "No more dizzying blurry pictures and videos . . .".

I'm confused. Gyro stabilization works for videos, not photos, doesn't it? The SJ7 has gyro stabilization, right? Does it also have anti-shake for photos? To me it seems like these two features are conflated on SJCam's website. Furthermore this confusion is repeated on essentially every seller's website.

Here on DCT I previously asked about claims that the Sony sensor was a 16MP sensor instead of the correct 12MP size. Yet on the SJ7's web page there is a graphic - the one with "4K" in blue letters just under the picture of the camera - that still indicates it's 16MP. Again this is carried over to basically every seller's website.

Personally I find this kind of inconsistency infuriating. It makes it difficult for consumers to understand what features the camera is actually equipped with. One hopes that the manual for the camera is completely void of this type of confusion. Descriptions on the manufacturer's website, sellers' websites, the camera box, documentation included within and any online manuals must all be consistent with the actual product. You must also ensure that customer support people are properly trained in advance to respond to customer inquiries with accurate in formation. To me these are hallmarks of successful consumer electronics companies.

I don't know the relationship between SJCam and the many online sellers of its products but it's a shame the seller's information isn't accurate because they're almost as likely to understate the camera's capabilities as to overstate them. For example, on the
Everbuying web page for the SJ7 it indicates in the Functions section of the Specification table that the camera lacks a Camera Timer (presumably shutter delay), Time Lapse (video, photo or both?) and Anti-Shake (yeah, there it is again). Is it true that the SJ7 lacks these common features? This kind of confusion can make consumers wary of online sellers that are the main outlets for your products and calls into question whether the manufacturer is competent enough to know its own products.

Regarding Anti-shake on the SJ4000 maybe we got it mixed up. Thanks for clarifying this point.

Regarding Gyro stabilization, you are correct that it is not anti-shake. Gyro is not recommended while taking pictures and is only recommended while shooting video. We are updating the description now.

the 16mp is interpolated and is only for photos. This is why there is a picture of a camera instead of video recorder. I am not sure how that is confusing as we state the 16mp is interpolated in the description. We could add a video recorder and put 12mp as well. Would this be better?

We are actually re-doing the page and we will notify our resellers. At the end of the day, we have no control over what some sites maybe write or list.

Thanks for pointing these facts out to us.

FYI, there is a new v1.08 firmware which adds FOV and improves UI and languages.

I see your point. To me it seemed as though the graphic was describing native capabilities such as 4K.

Also in that graphic is it correct to describe "4K" as "FHD Resolution"? Shouldn't it be "UHD Resolution"?

I'm surprised that SJCam has absolutely no control over resellers' descriptions of its products. I don't know what the formal Terms and Conditions would be between SJCam and resellers but surely there is a clause that prohibits resellers from misrepresenting your products, isn't there? For example, what steps might you take if they failed to identify the SJ7 as a native 4K camera? I'm sure you wouldn't let that slide as one of things over which you "have no control". I certainly appreciate the fact that you're notifying resellers.

Thank you for the full reply and steps you're taking. Speaking for myself as an average consumer these steps are appreciated. 🙂

Have any of you noticed if the case gets scratched around the ports? I can never get the USB plug the right way 'round and always end up with scratches right around the port. I was also wondering if anyone has accidentally popped out the memory card? Lacking indentation around the ports I was wondering if that might be a problem.

Also, must you use the touch screen for navigation or do the buttons provide full redundancy? Can the touch screen be used while wearing winter gloves or diving gloves or must your fingers be bare?

EDIT: I'm assuming the waterproof enclosure door is touch sensitive.

There is a touch door which is waterproof up to 10m, and a hard door which is waterproof up to 30m. You can use the buttons to navigate everything now. Wifi was added into main menu (before was only on swipe down screen).
