The list of shame fake 4K dash cameras Ultra HD

Returning a 70mai A810 4K Dash Cam. It is 2K, not 4K. The only choices in video setup are 1920x1080 or 1920x1080 (60FPS) both of which are 2K.

The 70mai A810 is a 4K dashcam.

Sounds like you are missing a menu option to get 4K
Also note that is does do 30fps when set to 60hz and no rear camera.

Where did you buy it? Could it be fake?

Amazon USA site.
There is simply no menu option for 4k that I could find. I recorded some indoor videos with it and the video quality is extremely poor. It could certainly be a fake, but it was so nicely packaged.
It matters not. I am returning it.
I appears they all have issues, even the expensive ones.

Oops, I see you have to select "high compression" to get 4K. Not obvious. Are there any brands that don't require this?

That is a simple menu option to find, if you have trouble with this one, you will likely have issues with others. Each manufacturer has their way of organizing the GUI, users are expected to cruise through those options and to learn the dash cam settings. 4K may be called "4K", or it may be listed as the resolution. You have to learn those things for each dash cam brand.

The A810 is a 4K camera, no need to go to another brand dash cam unless you just simply are not happy with the A810 for some reason other than the menu.

Thanks for the insult. No way to know compression would affect available resolution options.
They should have combined them on the same menu list. I work with a few EE designers and UX is not their forte. It's called "being too close to your product."

So I ran a test clip through Adobe Premiere Pro and got the specs. All good now.
Still concerned about the reviews that say it has problems with high ambient temperatures.

Would like to know if the Binatone 4k and Miofive 4k dashcams listed on Argos and Amazon are genuine 4k. Priced between £65 and £70.

I'm doubtful about the Binatone, but it might be.

I think the Miofive will have a Sony IMX 415 image sensor, so true 4K, but it is a small sensor which is not great at night or in UK winters. If you want it for summer holiday movies then it is quite nice for the price, but doesn't compete well with the better quality 4K dashcams with IMX678 image sensors.

Given that you are in the UK, and we have large writing on our licence plates, you don't really need a 4K dashcam, a decent 2K dashcam at similar price is likely to give a better result, there was a quite interesting test of cheaper 4K and 2K dashcams recently on Project Farm, a 2K dashcam won.

There are more fake 4k cams out there than real ones. For a real 4k cam look for the 8 megapixel Starvis 2 IMX 678 Sony sensor in the description. There is also an IMX415 but it's older, and cheaper but still 8 megapixel 4k. I am shopping right now for one. Watch out for deceptive descriptions like the Rove R2-4k. It's says Starvis 4k but its actually using the IMX 675, 2k sensor upconverted to 4k. A classic fake, scam if you want my opinion.

I have narrowed down my search for a dashcam to either the Kenwood DRV-A510W (and R110 rear camera) and the Nextbase 412GW both quad HD models. Watched the video you linked to.. so much info especially as the chap was talking so fast. Thanks for the link.

I could only find the Binatone on Argos web site. It says '4K forward facing camera with 1 megapixels and a viewing angle of 140°.'

4K is 8.3 megapixels so I call it out as not real 4K.

1 megapixels is a 720 HD sensor, there is no way that they can sell an HD camera as 4K! 4K has 8x more detail.
What they will mean is that it is a 4K Front (Probably a 2K sensor) and HD rear (not FHD).

Nobody ever buys Kenwood dashcams, even though there seems to be a lot of advertising, no idea if they are good or not!

Nextbase is at least a proper dashcam company, from Wales, only real issue is that they insist on using lithium batteries inside, and making them non-user replaceable, so they tend to have a lifespan of around 18 months unless you are handy with a soldering iron to replace the batteries. This is why we tend to recommend dashcams with super capacitors instead of batteries, such as the Viofo cameras that seem to last 10+ years.

Drivevision 4K using a 5MP QHD IMX335 sensor

Proudly Australian business, promoting 4K UHD

Upscaled fake 4K, technically wrong and misleading false marketing.

@rovedashcam1 Welcome to DashCamTalk.

Why do you show United States for your location but also show the flag of India?
Which is your location? 🤷‍♂️
