THINKWARE F800 PRO

I now have a new phone and I am happy to say that I can now get the full features of the app with android 7. :)

Unfortunately this was a one off and I haven't been able to connect the camera to the phone since. I spent quite a long time trying. It keeps saying that it is not able to connect to wi-fi or hotspot. When it does eventually connect via Wi-Fi it times out and ends up looking for hotspot again. I got so annoyed with it that I deleted the app from my phone.

The only time I find the app useful is when I need to aim the camera during installation and when I need to make a quick change to the settings when I am on the road. Other times I pull the SD card and look at the footage on the computer. I usually change the settings at that time.

I was trying to change the settings. I normally do it on the PC, but thought I would take advantage of the app.
I think it is due to the secure connection app I have installed on my phone. It delays the Thinkware app from starting until the connection is secure. When this is happening the Thinkware app times out.

Wow! I have just hard-wired the Thinkware F800 Pro to my car and I must say that I am very impressed with the parking mode.
It takes a while to switch from parking mode to continuous mode, but it's all good.

Sorry it is not a clear photo as the connections to the camera are on the left, using the fuse taps. I connected them to the rear fog and the hazzard lights. I couldn't believe how easy it was to install in the end. I must say that it can get a bit awkward if you need to use or change a fuse next to a fuse tap as the fuses from the fuse tap overlap them.

I have also ordered one of the expensive 64GB Thinkware SD Cards. I have seen in reviews that people recommend them. I am hoping that they last a long time as a couple of my SD cards have lasted for around 8 years and they were a fraction of the cost.

I don't know if the following will help anyone as I know that you can download the app for the PC, but it is not possible to view the settings until you record your first video on to the SD card from the camera. Also, if you are like me and you have an older phone then you will need this app for your PC to change any of the settings on the camera. This is the advantage that Thinkware have over some other dash cams that do not allow the settings to be changed other than on a smartphone with limited versions of Android or IOS.

Here are the settings for the camera that some people may find useful.

I am not quite sure why it says winter months, yet summer months are shown too. I know the weather is different in all countries at different times of the year, but maybe all of the months should be shown so that there is more of an option.

A security LED might sound like a nice feature, but it also attracts unwanted attention to the car. I have not tested it yet for that reason.

I hope this helps for anyone who is thinking about purchasing this cool camera.
Please ask any questions if you have any and hopefully I will be able to answer them.
How is the time and date set

Many thanks ,
The green flashing light is annoying. Saying it wants to connect to my iPhone witch would mean whilst out it would be using my data???
I’ve just changed from a THINKWARE f770;

Ah. Someone else beat me to it. :)
Yes, the timezone is set in the system settings.

Many thanks ,

I’ve just changed from a THINKWARE f770;

I have my F800Pro set up so that I do not see the lights on the unit. It is behind the rear view mirror.
I don't think it uses any data when connected via wi-fi. I believe Hotspot connection uses data though. Someone may need to confirm this.
At the moment, the wi-fi is normally used to set up the camera and view or download videos. I think it can be used to update the firmware too so I don't think it should be trying to connect to a phone when using the camera when driving. Is it trying to connect to the phone all of the time?

The green light is permanently flashing. But I set up the system on my iPad which doesn’t have a SIM card in it at the
Moment.
Il try with my iPhone
Thanks for your help

If I am correct, the F800 / F800 Pro, once it is set up, will try to connect to the access point or wifi as soon as it is turned on. At this moment, there is no way to turn off this function.

I don't have the unit in front of me at the moment to test it. I normally have to press the wi-fi button to connect to the phone. I'll check it out next time I am in the car.

Yes, I can confirm that the Wi-Fi light does flash when the unit is running in continuous mode. Mine is flashing blue. Although, I do have to press the wi-fi button to connect the F800 Pro to the phone and then play around for over 20 minutes trying to connect it. I take the SD card out now and do what I need to do on the computer. Maybe it just doesn't like Sony phones.

camrea trys logging into my persnal hotspot but just keeps flahing then then cant find hotspot when it is turned on on my phone. then gives up and say conect to wifi,
its driving me nutts now

I am wondering if it needs more time to connect as it takes a while for it to show up on my wi-fi list and then by the time it does connect the camera disconnects again. I have to manually connect my phone to the camera every time because it doesn't want to connect automatically. This means that I have to have fast reactions to get from the wi-fi settings back to the app to connect the camera to the phone. I have also found that I have to have the phone location switched on for it to work too.

I have another camera that connects to the wi-fi on my phone pretty much instantly and there are no issues at all, but that camera is not as advanced as the Thinkware F800 Pro.

I have noticed that my time is an hour out, I will check the settings later for BST. Our clocks went back an hour in October.
I am currently trying to calm down after a minor incident I have caught on camera.

I would like to say a huge thank you to Thinkware as the parking mode on the F800 Pro has captured a local person keying my car and then walking into his house. (Actually we are not sure what was used now to damage the car as the camera recorded the suspicious looking object in the hand too.) Although it was late at night the camera picked up the stupid person who stood next to the car and looked at the camera. Hahaha. I was considering posting it online but it is now being used for evidence.

Thank you Thinkware.

I am just confirming that the time issue was due to having to change the BST setting to disable.

Wow! Were there any previous incidents that prompted you getting the dash cam?

There have been quite a few incidents that prompted me to upgrade my dash cam, but nothing like this. I now know I need to get the interior cam sorted out again so that I can see through the side windows. I wish people would respect other people's property.

Just to update the topic that a new Android version (maybe Apple too) of the app has been released today, bringing the Air fuctionnality. So the Air part is managed by the app itself, through a registration process step. This Air part is a new thumbnail in the app, at the bottom. It enables driving impact notification (notification with 3G or 4G detected by G-sensor), vehicule last position saved (every 10 seconds) and enables also geofencing (notification when car goes out-of-range). Need to dig fuctions...
Not tried it yet.

A new firwmare of the F800 has been released (talking about Wifi password setting), but nothing for the F800 Pro, now.

So it seams that we have to activate HotSpot on Mobile AND start the app to have the Air function... ;-(
wait & see if a new FW enables to make it by itself with HotSpot Only.

Mine F800 PRo (dual w/ 128Gb card, hardwired) si well working and i'm satisfied with its front and rear recording.
My little complains :
- taking some time to download videos over-the-air,
- no option to remove voice notification while keeping active LDWS/FCWS/FVDW (if i want beep for theses functionnalities, i need to have voices too...);
- no option to choose wich [vehicule] internal LED (GPS/continuous recording/WIFI);
- option to switch off WIFI [blinking] when no HotSpot present : could be the Wifi button that enables 3 options : Wifi to Smartphone HotSpot, Wifi with dashcam in HotSpot mode, No WIFI.
- more information tagged in the recorded video;
- live video with rear camera in PIP mode.
But maybe will arrive one day ;-)

I would also hope the F800 Pro can connect to any access point rather than just only smartphone or mobile hotspot. For example within range of my home WiFi or free common hotspot widely available in my country via government initiative so that I can do without a mobile hotspot.

Also I seem to recall the animated video showing Parking Mode Impact Notification. However, the updated app is only showing Driving Impact Notification besides GEO-Fence Notification. Hopefully this and more features (not just the cloud features) will be available shortly as I feel for possibly the most expensive dashcam, it is lacking even some basic features.
