would it be better to move the camera

Based on my experience the higher, and closer you mount the camera to the top of the windshield is the best, (but leave a small gap between the headliner, and camera so hot air can escape top camera vent).
Of course you also want it closer to the middle, and within windshield wiper sweep to provide clear view in rain/snow.
I’d say your current location is as good as it gets.
Oh yeah, do have CPL Filter installed?
