Dash Cam
At the moment Viofo, Vueroid and Vantrue
make sure the microSD card has been formatted with a FAT32 file system before copying the two firmware "bin" files to the root directory of the microSD card file system. I use a separate 32GB microSD card for this purpose which allows me to retain all of the files on the "regular use" microSD card for that dash camera.

The front camera firmware filename should be "FWA229S.bin" (minus the quotes). The rear camera filename should be "EthcamTxFW.bin" (minus the quotes). Install the microSD card into the dash camera and power it up. The leftmost LED should start quickly blinking indicating it's located the front camera firmware file and the front camera firmware is being updated.

When the updating of the front camera firmware completes, it will reboot the dash camera and it [may] prompt your to select the camera's language, time zone and then it may prompt to format the microSD card. You need to answer no to the formatting since that will wipe away the rear camera firmware file that has yet to be installed. Once the dash camera has fully booted up, it will detect the presence of the "EthcamTxFW.bin" on the microSD card and it will initiate the rear camera firmware update process.

Firmwares for the front and rear cameras of the A229 Plus are available for download on the Viofo website.

I think the version of the rear cam (EthcamTxFW.bin) firmware is V1.0_231116

So is the A229 Plus with this current firmware good enough to purchase?

I just bought my wife an A229 Plus, and I'm shocked!
It has no power input!
How can I turn it ON at home if the GPS module is attached to the windshield??
Am I missing something? may be it hidden somewhere?

Type-C Rear camera output is also power input.

Yep, somehow I missed it...🙁
It would really help if the printed label next to the USB-C port on the device itself also included this information, currently it only says "Rear".
I would never have thought to connect a power cable to the video input port. 😱

There is not only a video input, but also a power output for the rear camera.

So, does it work if the rear camera cable is in the GPS input and the power cable is in the rear camera input?
Only power comes into the GPS input, and a video signal also comes into the rear camera input. So your combination won't work.

Neither the manufacturer nor the speed of the card affects the firmware process.
Any memory card formatted in FAT32 is suitable for flashing the firmware.

A229Pro/Plus: To update our newest firmware, you need to format your card to FAT32 first.
With the newest firmware, you need not to format it to FAT32 when you update the next firmware.
Because the exFAT file format has been added to this new firmware.
