Viofo A329S Review

Let me be clear we do not think 60fps is a selling point. We set all of our prior generation A329 to 30fps with HDR on.

But I will agree with you that they have it listed on their website as 60fps in 3 channel mode.
Selling point is relative. It may not be to some but it is to me after I watched your comparison between the A329 and the A229 Pro, when you emphasized how the A329 captured what the A229 Pro couldn't. I think I even told you in the comments section that I will throw my A229 Pro like a brick in the river if a 3 channel came out, which I did when the 3 channel came out.

Anyway, is being stuck at 30fps in 3 channels a hardware limitation or can this be resolved by a firmware update?

Fyi the majority of my comparison videos are all in 30fps with hdr on. There is only 1 video in 60fps out of all my a329 videos.

In my opinion, I don't think we can expect a 60FPS three channel firmware. VIOFO were given a lot of grief over the A229 Pro heat issue, and the A329 was not too far behind. You should likely consider returning the A329x and looking at something else. If not returning the A329x, probably learn to live with three channels at 30 FPS. Frankly, with the Starvis II CMOS, I don't see a great need for 60 FPS.

100% this. To me 4k60 is just a technological and marketing flex to show that a company is keeping up with the Joneses. It's not the best for plate reads and 4k30 is more than enough

Was 60fps vs 30fps the reason for the A329 capturing what the A229 Pro could not?

No it had nothing to do with 60fps. It has a different processor. A few image improvements.

Everyone,

I appreciate your inputs but with no disrespect, I think a lot of you don't see where I'm coming from. I'm not really talking about what we need and don't need. (30fps vs. 60 fps). Sure, 30 fps is fine and we don't need 60 fps, but I'm talking about what was advertised but not delivered.

Am I not supposed to feel bad if I was made to believe that I was sold a 60fps 3 channel dashcam just because 30fps is good enough?

I agree with that perspective and not in any disagreement on that. That is why I told Viofo about their error.

Now I recommend you talk directly to Viofo regarding their error or whoever you purchased the product from.

I already did and just waiting for their response. I just needed to confirm with everyone if it's stuck at 30fps on 3 channels. Thanks.

Yes i believe so because they said they were going to correct the error. However there was only 1 spot in all of the listing that even said 60fps which was the screenshot I found. Other than that the entire listing for 3 channel has no mentions of 60FPS at any point in time. Only the 1 error was on the specs. which i screenshot above.

They advertised the A329s as a 60fps dashcam but they never mentioned that it won't be 60fps anymore if set to 3 channels. The screenshot you sent just supported the belief that it will still be 60fps in 3 channels. The box didn't even say it anywhere. It just says "60fps/30fps".

So if you are unhappy with it send it back. If you feel you can live with it only working in 30fps in 3 channel then keep it in your vehicle. That is where you are at. Personally if i were you and you decide to keep it. I would ask for a free HK6 new hardwire cable.

You know what, that's exactly what I've been thinking about last night. Either return the A329s or ask to be compensated in kind. I'm leaning towards the latter. They said the HK6 will be out in July. I haven't road tested the A329s since I just installed it yesterday and I didn't have time to drive around but I'm happy with the interior camera. It captures where the sidemirrors are.

Scratching my head now...how are you owed something free because you are not happy with the frame rate? Granted, the marketing people at VIOFO made an error, but I do not see how this warrants customers getting free hardware. VIOFO would be setting a very bad precedence if they "bought" you off with a free HK6.

It sucks but there is no dashcam that can do 4k60 across all three channels, hell there isn't even one that can do that across two channels. One could try and say it's false advertising but technically it isn't false advertising either because it does do 4k60, just not beyond one channel.

Unsure if you'll get anywhere asking for compensation, I'm not sold on that concept myself. It's just how the cookie crumbles, which is unfortunate in your case...

First of all, I didn't say I was "owed". Please don't put words in my mouth. I was sold a product that didn't work as advertised. So if it will be easier to compensate me with "something" that will help me enjoy the product than to process a refund, then by all means. That's called customer service.

Second of all, I already have an A229 Pro 3ch that also performs at 30fps. I didn't spend more than $600 just to get the same performance with an SSD support. Even if Viofo proceeds with a refund, Viofo will still owe me for the inconvenience because they can never pay for the laborious effort I've put into uninstalling the A229 Pro and to install the A329s..

Your reaction would've been warranted if I was expecting the A329s to take out the garbage for me or expecting Viofo to send me another dashcam for free. So ya, you can keep scratching your head.

Sadly, my friend not all people know that. And besides, it's in the website. And I'm not expecting all 3 channels to run at 60fps. 60/30/30 was what I was expecting, not 60fps for all.

If you bought a car that was advertised to run at 500m/hour and upon you testing it, it ran only at 300m/hour and someone told you that 300m/hour is more than enough, would you be happy?

This is what it says on the website so who am I not to believe that?

I think you need to move you issue to either a new thread post, or contact Viofo directly separately.
Out of respect of the original poster of this thread, this is off-topic to the original poster's 'Review'.

Sorry, I'm done with the topic. I was just responding to the others who commented about this. I won't speak of this again in this thread unless someone asks me. I'll just provide an update once Viofo responds.
