Viofo A329T (unboxing & first impressions) (Sony Starvis 2 IMX678, Wi-Fi 6/GPS, HDR, Novatek NT98530, 4K front + 2.5K telephoto + 2.5K rear, HDR all)

I must say that with all the hype around this release, the "May 5th embargo" the "May 19th release" , the wait and sees , etc etc, I'm totally disappointed that nothing of real substance was released. Just a revamped A229 Pro as the A329 was just a revamped A229. Same body style same look no lte ,no cloud no real substance. If I had to choose between the BlackVue Dr970X IR Box and the A329SWT , I'll choose the former. The A329 as great of a Dashcam it's championed to be , it still falls short of modern tech. JMO.
Fair point but I think it was expected it was going to be an iterative improvement considering it had S in the name too. I don't think advances have been that great in the last couple of years, really the new Novatek chipset has enabled a few more features. And probably finally going to see wider field of view interior cameras this year, along with the imx678 being in barrel rear sensors.

Not sure what the rest of the year brings but unless Sony comes out with newer image sensors that bring even more improvements to image quality, then it's just going to be bits and bobs in improvements this year...

I don't need LTE or Cloud, so I'll take 4K@60fps, dual Starvis 2, telephoto, and wi-fi 6. I care about dashcam video and image quality vs. cloud connectivity.
And I have AM/FM radio in my car which I don't need either. Not to neglect someone else who might make use of it, so it comes standard.

And I care about the safety and security of my car when on the road and when unattended and would love to be alerted if tampered with . If I want 4K 60fps or better video I'll use my GoPro or DJI. Its kind of what's it's made for.

It sounds like you want your dashcam for security while parking, whereas others use it more for security while driving (like me, in the city). License plate recognition and clarity matter most to me and is where these dashcam video advancements are helping in the latest Viofo models. No, GoPro and DJI (and iPhones) are not made nor convenient for driving, but good luck with that.

Glad to see the A329S products finally available for sale on viofo.com! I am buying the A329T 2CH with the short 0.15m telephoto cable (almost missed that choice). This doesn't come with the CPL filter for the telephoto, which I read is a new RTC-400. Will the same CPL-500 filter work or do I need to wait until a new accessory becomes available?
If my information is correct, the A329T telephoto camera will have a CPL-600 filter.

does anyone have any idea on what the difference is between the HK4 and the HK6 hardwire kit?

At this point it appears that the needed hardware kit to have the voltage cutoff work and the cpl lenses that will work with the new telephoto and rear camera are not available. So I’m guessing the best play is to preorder, in my case, the a329t and Bluetooth button and use the car charger until the HK6 wired kit is available. Does that sound right?

We are going on a road trip in July and would like to have a dashcam in my truck before we leave. My old street guardian cam quit working after just over 6 years and I’ve been putting off getting a new one.
The new hardwire kit is only needed if you want the hybrid parking modes, where it switches from normal parking modes to low power impact detection when the battery voltage gets low, so that limited parking protection continues for days. You can still use the older hardwire kits the same as with previous Viofo dashcams. Probably worth waiting for the HK6, but you don't have to use the accessory socket or USB-C charging port.

It enables use of the new hybrid parking modes, by supplying the A329 with the car battery/dashcam battery voltage so that it can decide when to switch to low power impact protection, which significantly reduces power consumption because most of the dashcam is then asleep.

so i placed my pre order and first connected with Linda in support, she helped me write up a order note (appended on the side pre checkout screen) with the following to ensure I would get the correct items...

This is what was added and verified with Linda for the order note:

"Please delay order and only ship once you can Replace the CPL500 to CPL600, HK4 to HK6, rear camera to new rear camera for A329S. The order is on the basis of the 256Gb Mircro SD being included as advertised but not shown on the order."

I then gave Linda my order number and she advised the appropriate teams. She advised this should all be correct next month for the HW6 and by July for the CPL-600 new style rear camera.

Is the in-camera battery protection a Time OR Voltage setting? Or can it be set as Time AND/OR Voltage?

Let's say I want the parking mode to end at 4 hours AND/OR reaching 12.2V. Can that be done in-camera, or would I have to set 4 hours in-camera and 12.2V on the HK4?

parking mode from what I understand needs the hardwire kit

Yes, but can I set the HK4 to 12.0V as a failsafe and tuck the cable away out of reach under the floor mat, then set both time and voltage options in-camera?

Looking at the menu options it seems like you might be able to set both, would need one of the reviewers or viofo to confirm though.

Yes, with the HK6

The HK4 cutoff turns off all power.

The in camera cutoff is used to transition the hybrid parking mode into low power (sleep) mode with quick impact detection wake up before you run out of power and the HK6 does a full hardware cutoff. You can also set the parking duration to trigger the switch into low power impact detection in hybrid parking modes, or to put the camera to sleep in normal parking modes.

You can't use hybrid parking modes with the HK4 though!

Wait so the one I ordered yesterday doesn’t come with the new rear? I think I should ask her about my order too…

So, does the HK6 send battery voltage information to the dashcam, but the HK4 does not?

The time based [Vehicle Battery Protection > Parking Recording Timer] hybrid parking mode will work using the HK4 [I've tested it]. The voltage level setting in the dash camera requires the HK6. When you attempt to set the "Vehicle Battery Protection > Cut-off Voltage] setting, the dash camera attempts to communicate with the HK6 and if it does not find the HK6 it will present a popup error panel stating it could not be found.

Actually, the rear camera for A329 is same for A329S including compatibility and configuration.
