VIOFO BP-100 / EP-100 Dash Camera Battery Packs - RCG

It’s dragging on now….😕

Waiting myself re upcoming install and for the past few weeks I’ve been told directly it was to clear final testing end of week for general release the following week….But seems it keeps getting pushed out….
Various rumours & comments across the net re Sep—Oct—Nov…..

Do wonder what the issue(s) is, considering pre-production units have been out in the wild for some time now…

Presuming they want their ducks to line up re A329S v2 firmware—New App—New Desktop Player—Battery—SEMA ….What could possibly go wrong doing all at once..?!

Might have to throw the towel and fall back on the iRoad Pro12 after-all, though frustrating and slightly PIA re alternative wiring….🤔

You doing install yourself or any good places in Perth?

Me, me, me…..
I do various work as a network installer/engineer/consultant (with terrible OCD when it comes to cabinets!)…so kinda figure I can handle a few 12v cables..! 😉🤪

Besides, wouldn’t trust a Perth tradie if my life depended on it..! 🤣😳
Besides #2 – couldn’t afford Perth rates..!🙄

Same I do it all myself cos much much cheaper, and I'm doing so many dashcam installs during a year anyways in my own vehicle. I know my vehicle best and how not to damage it haha

Yep, same same…
I don’t even like AutoClassic going near my car, generally have always done all my own car general servicing etc, but these days and with my current it kinda needs to go to them re service records etc etc…and they’re so damn complex now re electrics….

Anyway, we digress…Where’s the BP-100…??!

The BP-100 looks tempting but its SO NEW.
I've been waiting for a PC8 sale but am more tempted with the BP-100. I like the lower cost and that it's sourced in the USA for potential warranty issues.

I see the BP-100 output cable is USB-C. Is it possible to adapt this to work with our A129 Duo which has a mini-USB port?

If not, the black Friday sale might be an opportunity to upgrade to something newer.

FYI the BP100 and EP100 batteries are now officially available on at least the US Viofo website--seems to be a nicely competitive cost for the expansion battery even at regular price:

Your link doesn't work as-is. Try this one, which shows both the BP100 and the EP100...

I think people are immediately going to say 'I can get a 10,000 mAh powerbank for $40'

Will that work, to send USB-C voltage all the way from the battery to the camera? Viofo's data cables for the A229 Pro and Plus are pretty robust (thick) and very short, I was under the impression their cameras tended to be fussy about needing adequate supply voltage. Maybe that doesn't apply to the A129 Duo?

As per the manual, BP100 comes with both USB C and mini USB cables for the cam side of the 12v to 5v converter on the hardwire output cable. Exactly the type of flexibility that the HK6 offers in its modularity.

Interesting the BP-100 has a wider operating temperature range than PC8 and they don't spec a charging temperature.
BP100 -20C to 70C
PC8 -10C TO 70C

EDIT:
I found the Charging Temperature spec on the Viofo website

I was referring to the 5V cable that runs from the voltage converter to the dashcam.

That's interesting, the website doesn't mention the mini-USB connector. Good to see it shown in the manual.

I don't remember there being a mini-USB connector with the HK6 units I bought.

I noticed the same thing on the website. I was confused about all the different cables so I searched for the manual.

Neither my HK6 retail nor the special no LVC version had a mini-USB connector included.

Yes this is nice and I see no reason to use the HK4 Hardwire kit with a Viofo Camera when the Hardwire Output Cable is included with the BP100. The HK6 has some extra "bells and whistles" but other than setting a cutoff voltage the HK4 kit does not buy you anything.

Your statement now has me wondering--not sure if this was covered previously, but does the battery's converter or the battery itself also support voltage display on the compatible cams like HK6? Or is the output voltage/current from the battery to the cam being able to be viewed in the app (as per the manual) considered adequate enough? Not clear from the battery manual if the battery itself has BT like its competitors do or if it is still the converter.

The 12V output cable with a 5V voltage converter is only that a voltage converter. There is no Bluetooth in the voltage converter unit, so it's like a HK4 in that respect. This output power cable allows you to use the full storage capacity of the BP100 since there's no low voltage cutoff built into the voltage converter unit [12V-to-5V].

The BP100 supports Bluetooth connections from the VIOFO Battery app similar to other Bluetooth enabled dash camera battery packs. The BP100's output voltage level will not be displayed in any of the VIOFO dash cameras that support the voltage display from the HK6.
