612GW

1 min clip 612GW takes around the same time as a tranfering 3 mins clip from 512GW even though it’s half the size.
 
I did spot that.

The short ~30 sec clip I had was 300Mb, compared to a full 3 minute 412gw file at 451Mb and a 402g file at 396Mb.

Only to be expected with the higher resolution.
 
Need Bluetooth transfer or faster WiFi. Transferring 750mb files between Apple devices using AirDrop takes less than 5 seconds.
 
I do mine via USB to the PC. Still takes a while but with multi Gb trips only, to be expected.
 
I’ve got a memory card error format card message this evening 0.9GB frespace was remaining. Also since the latest firmware update camera shuts off and goes into parking mode after minutes even when your connected to it via WiFi and in the middle of transfering a file to phone.
 
Having just purchased one of these myself I was drawn to this thread having searched for a way to reduce the vibration on the recordings.

I have tried both the suction cup and thought that the adhesive mount may be better so meticulously adhered this to my windscreen but the vibration is no better.

And now I am literally stuck. My previous 512G never had any issues with vibration using the suction mount so can't go back as the mounts are incompatible.

Any advice?

I can try wedging blu-tac in the ball joint but from what I have read that has not really helped other users.

Don't get me wrong, this is a fantastic bit of kit and the image quality is great (in the day, a bit grainier at night) but I really don't want to be left with a cam that might not be able to provide the proof I need if I need it due to the vibration ruining the image quality once the car is moving.

Try the blutack on the stem and the back of the tightening nut.
 
Thanks Paul for the advice, how much Blu-Tac would you advise?

I am guessing that for the back of the nut it needs to be a 'make shift' washer to close up on the 4 petals that tighten up on the ball.

I was thinking about this and I was thinking a wrap or two of PTFE tape (going back to watching my Dad doing plumbing lol) may help on the thread of the shaft to further tighten the grip but don't have any so will try the Blu-Tac for now and see how it goes.

I can't imagine that after spending more than $300 on a dash cam I'd have to use chewing gum to make it stable πŸ™‚
Surely there has to be a better solution?

A fair point and well made sir!

Never the less, since sticking the adhesive mount to my windscreen I am a bit scuppered as I would not be able to return the Cam complete so probably won't be able to get a refund... I will have to try the Blu-Tac.

If that fails to resolve the issues than I guess it will end up on eBay and I will go back to my faithful 512G.
 
Nextbase are aware of the issues some of us are having and hopefully there will be a solution to come.

In the meantime, as "tacky" as it sounds, blutack seems to work for me now that I have it in the right place. I would suggest though that you try and use as little as possible (I need to refine my lump!) and place as I have in the image below. This seems to have removed the wobble though I only have night footage since placing it there. The other bits you see on the thread have oozed out from the ball where I first tried blutack...

Replicate the big lump peeps! πŸ™‚

Thanks again Paul for clarification, are you saying that Blu-Tac in the joint is not worth trying and bolstering up the back of the 'down shaft' of the mount is the way to go?

I see you have a good relationship with Nextbase (my apologies if I have grasped the wrong end of the spoon), if Nextbase are aware, is there anyway we can register so we can be made aware of a fix?

And you can see after tonight's tackiness, you will see the steadiness is spot on, even if for now, the blutack is in need of a redress and maybe a paint job!

This video is night time and remember I have the polariser set to max effectiveness which adds some digital noise and grain but you can see with the van at the start it looks so much steadier. I will try to get a better example in daylight tomorrow, when hopefully we will be able to see the firmness (which was always most apparent at the left and right edges if the screen).

Thanks again Paul, I would prefer to avoid tackiness so would appreciate an answer - do we have to pack the ball joint or the back of the down shaft?

Or should I just return it based upon the grounds that it is not of merchantable quality?

What is your advise?

I really like the camera Andrew - what you do has to be your choice.

The way I think of it is how many other things do we all buy that aren't maybe exactly as we hoped but we like the enough to keep them, even if we do something to them?

The blutack wedges on the back between the top of the flat connector and travels up the back of the shaft and onto the ring. This seems to be doing the job. I'll probably try to reduce the amount of blutack and colour it black or put a bit of something over the blob to disguise it.

Thank you Paul, I do not want you to think that I am trying to cause bother. I have dropped the full RRP on this and it's results are worse than the 512G and I am understandably wanting answers, that was all, it's frustrating.

I will try the Blu-Tac and report back but would appreciate any feedback on an ongoing issue if this has been acknowledged by Nextbase.
