612GW

The latest footage I watched was the series, can't remember who, who has the N reg vehicle.

When playing this footage look at the registration number which is disected by the bonnet edge and really shows how bad this problem is with the heavier cam.

On my 412 the ball joint, even though heavily tightened, was still not a tight fit and allowed fairly easy movement when manually adjusted. A tiny bit of BluTak, no more than a small ball bearing, placed at the topmost part of the ball just prior to clicking in place has improved it. It isn't rock solid but enough to give slightly better grip.

I'm going to try the surgical glove 'fingertip end' suggestion when I can as that won't leave any residue.

That 'van' footage from Paul looks far better as I can't see any bonnet edge wobble at all.

Can you see any of that vibration on any of my footages?

I looked at video 2 in this post 612GW but could detect no wobble (I looked at the wheel trims on the car on the right at the lights).

Well I took another look at the mount this damp evening, I noticed that I was able to get at least another 3/4 of a turn on the nut since I fitted it on Saturday, maybe I was having a weak day when I fitted it or maybe it has 'bedded in' but it does feel quite a bit tighter and less easy to 'fine tune' the position.

I have also applied the Blu-tac as Paul recommended in his pic, so will check the footage after my morning commute and see if this is any better with the vibrations.

I am wondering if it is worth pushing my luck and seeing if I can get another 1/2 turn on the nut with a pair of grips...

Will report back tomorrow evening with some before and after footage.

Thanks again to all for their input and advice, it's much appreciated 🙂

After my blutack application yesterday evening, as promised here is some daylight footage.

Shame it is raining which messes visuals up a bit compared to a lovely summers day, haha, but if you check this out (better in 4K on the telly) you will see no movement even in my old motor. Look at windows at the periphery and lampposts, and you will see the steadiness is there now (and you want a reminder to see what it was like before look at this permalink...)

Then check the one below from today. All is as it should be.

The picture looks all out of focus in 1080p

Can't see it. I'm getting a 'UMG' copyright notice, whatever UMG is.

I'll upload another tonight as a raw file.

Oh and YT has put it on HD not 4K so the raw file link will be in 4K tonight.

Well an update as promised, I reviewed the footage of my morning commute and it was much, much better! Not sure if this was down to the extra turn I managed to get on the nut or the Blu-Tac. But tonight I was able to get at least an extra 1/2 turn on the nut with a pair of grips (I daren't go further) and re applied the Blu-Tac and the mount really is solid now.

I did edit some footage using the Nexbase Replay software but it seems to convert it from .mp4 to .mov and the output is really 'lossy' with frames being dropped and quite choppy, so sorry about that, will have to track down Windows Movie Maker again!

Thanks again to all, especially Paul with his Blu-Tac advice.

Glad to be of some help Andrew m8.

I take it you are keeping it then ?

Yes, now I have gotten over the vibration niggle very much so.

I have only been recording in 1080P so may upgrade the card to a U3 and go to 4K (even though I don't have a 4K telly - yet...) for the extra quality, one for the xmas list.

With regards to 'hiding' the blu-tac, since the mount is square rather than painting the blob it would probably work with wrapping some matt black insulation tape around the top of the mount - would probably look quite neat too if done with care. I will have a go when it's light and post the results. I drive with the sun shades down most of the time so would not notice but am a bit of a perfectionist, so these things bug me (especially in a brand new car!), hence maybe I came over as a bit picky...

Thanks again mate, much appreciated!

A couple of examples then from today - plus a RAW file on the link.

I'd use Dropbox but they charge too much to upgrade from the free package!

I use the free DropBox with 5.2Gb but I haven't got a lot on there.

Mine has only 2GB and I can't get any more without forking out nearly £7 a month! And I ain't doing that, lol...
