A119M Pro Test & Review PP

I have seen comparison videos in the past between 2K and 4K models that sometimes show a surprising upset during night time shots
This might be the case if you compare models from different manufacturers.
Viofo doesn't have this.

Video quality for different models depends on the firmware, and the same people work on the firmware for Viofo.

I wish that were true! I noticed this very thing on a video by Vortex Radar comparing the rear cameras of the A229 Ultra and the A329S.

A link to the video (timestamp 8:27) which shows that the 2K camera was having a much easier time making license plates legible compared to the 4K camera that was blurry and smoothed to the point where it was useless.

Honestly, I'm just looking for someone to film themselves driving around with both a A119 Mini 2 and a A119M Pro to compare footage in day and night. That's what matters.
Correct, I 100% agree.
Unfortunately you are going to have to “hurry up, and wait”. lol
More on this in a minute.
But what's the point of comparing videos from a 4K model with videos from a 2K model?
You should be comparing models with identical specifications.
Also correct, I 100% agree.

I know on paper the A119M Pro should be better, but specs don't tell you everything.
No point in more pixels if the sensor doesn't get as much light"

Correct, I 100% agree.

I’ve been testing Viofo cameras since 2020, and whenever we get a new upgraded model I usually devote 50% of my testing time comparing it with the previous model to see what’s been improved, or made worse, (I’m looking at you “Audio Quality / Volume Level & Boot Up Speed” just to name two).
And the other 50% of my testing time comparing with competitors from other brands, (it all depends on what’s available on the market at the time).

Because we always get questions like;
1.) Is the new model worth upgrading from the old model?
2.) Is the new model worth the extra money?
Of course only the customer can make that decision, and all I can do is present test data / results, and post side by side test footage for image quality comparison / analysis.

On August 12, 2025 when I received A119M Pro, (fully finished retail version with serial number same as sold to customer) I was fired up to compare with A119 Mini 2, but I realized it would be like bringing a knife to a gun fight.
My next thought was to ask Vanture for an E1 Pro for the sole purpose of comparing the two cameras side by side.
Even though E1 Pro was released January 2025, (10 months ago) I still think it’s the closest competitor to A119M Pro based on hardware specifications, small size, 1CH, and budget “low price”.

Q: Why haven’t I uploaded any test footage for image quality comparison / analysis of A119M Pro along with Vantrue E1 Pro, or A119 Mini 2?
A: Because I’m still waiting on the very first fully finished official public firmware for A119M Pro.
Until I see the first official public firmware available on Viofo’s official website, I’m unwilling to gather, and post test footage for comparison / analysis.

This is true, many tech videos on YouTube show comparisons of older models as reference points for new released models. Unfortunately like most of us, we'll have to wait until folks decide to do God's work in this realm.

There's also the issue of some reviewers only comparing certain models and not the ones you want, due to them picking and choosing what they wish to review.

Random Test Footage

SETTINGS:
Pre-Production Firmware: V1.0 20251009
Resolution: 4K30fps
HDR: On
Bitrate: Maximum
CPL Filter: On

DEPARTING FLIGHT:
SMF to LAS Delta 4105 Embraer 175 3:00PM - 4:00PM (sunset 4:41PM)
Filming Location Seat: 1A (left side)
Final Approach: Borax, Nevada N35.744845 W115.458171

RETURNING FLIGHT:
LAS to SMF Delta 3695 Embraer 175 11:00AM - 12:30PM
Filming Location Seat: 1A (left side)

NOTES:
1.) Could not mount camera to window, hand held footage is shaky, (especially during turbulence).
I wish A119M Pro had suction mount like the Vantrue E1 Pro, (I would have stuck on window).
2.) CPL Filter was a mistake, (airplane window causing rainbow effect).

I would order one and do a test myself but I'm worried about customs duties on orders from viofo.com. So I'll have to wait for it to show up on Amazon.ca. Until then, I'm subscribed to these threads to find out more! 🙂

Contact Viofo @viofo here and ask if they can provide you with one so you can do extensive heat testing and whatever else. Most of what you see in some of these reviews lacks substance, is only a surface look, and often appears to be geared toward making one camera look better than the other. Some factors can skew an IR heat reading, even overhead lighting reflecting onto the surface being tested. You also need to know the internal temperature of the components — especially the CPU and the sensor(s) —where they are located, and what the dashcam does when it reaches a threshold temperature.

You can contact Ben at SafeDriveSolutions in Vancouver and see if he can help you if you wish to buy a VIOFO dashcam. SafeDriveSolutions

Does anyone know what the actual bitrate is for the different settings like High for this camera?

Is High is always the same across the VIOFO lineup?

I bought it from a Chinese shopping mall to use in Korea, but it doesn't support bitrate max. I hope it will be improved with a TT firmware update.

still waiting on the very first fully finished official public firmware for A119M Pro

Some models have 3 Bitrate settings, some have 4.
I wish it was standardized across all models with numerical value next to each setting, (example);
HIGH: 65 Mbps
MED: 45 Mbps
LOW: 30 Mbps
Maybe this would be too confusing for first time users.

MED: 45 Mbps
LOW: 30 Mbps
처음 사용하는 사람들에게는 너무 혼란스러울 수도 있습니다.
고맙습니다. 나의 A119M pro의 bitrate는 low, mid, high 입니다.

A119M Pro, high bitrate
What firmware is this?
Keep in mind "final" Bitrate may change when we get the first official public firmware, and it might even change again after that. lol

I understand that these things will change with more firmware releases, but Viofo sold a bunch of these in their presale, and it's still selling on their website. I assume they are shipping with 20251023, so why aren't we calling this firmware "public"? If they're selling devices with it then it makes it the first public firmware, doesn't it?

The “first official public firmware” will be published on the official Viofo website.
