A129 Pro firmware

Hey everyone, haven't been around for a while, my A129 pro is running V2.1 and the cam is working flawlessly. Set up and forget kind of situation, the cam switches as intended between drive mode and parking mode, buffered parking mode works as intended (every month or so I check if the cam detects events in its field of vision and start recording), the cam automatically shuts down when it hits the selected cutout voltage, and boot up automatically when I start the car.
I also don't even have to worry about draining my battery (car sleeps 5 days during the week) as my hardware kit always cut power when it hits the selected cutout voltage.

I can see that they released fw 2.7, not planning to upgrade unless they added a new feature. What's the difference between v2.7 VS v2.1? Is there any reason for me to upgrade?
If the camera is working fine, not necessary to update the firmware.
The V2.7 important improvement is optimizing video quality as some users complain the video is too bright.
If you are satisfied with the video quality, you can keep use the V2.1 firmware.

In my opinion based on what VIOFO just said and my own experience I would differently not update the software unless you think the video sucks. It's a PITA because it will delete all your settings putting them back to factory and also deletes all your video files too. Personally, I do not know what the difference was in video, but I only went from version 2.6 to the current 2.7.

Here's what a video I took just a few minutes before sunset a couple days ago looks like on version 2.7. I think it looks great, but again I'm upgrading only version 2.6 so the improvement may be less noticeable to me. If you think this video looks more awesome than what you see with version 2.1 go for it. Just be aware that you will need to redo your settings.

Video files from the memory card are not automatically deleted during the update.

Thanks for the info guys. Video quality is great in daylight after adjusting the camera angle to make sure that not too much sky is in the image and by tweaking exposure settings.
Night footage could be better but I know this is due to the 4k sensor. I don't think that a fw update could do much about that.

Ok I'm gonna stick with my fw then.

Looks very good, is this with WDR enabled?

@Arese from what you posted would it be fair to assume that you have a voltage cutout device that is not made by Viofo?
I say this as I suspect Viofo wire kits pull around 100mA "when the dashcam is off.
Would love to know your setup.

can you tell me the settings you are using. it looks great

I have noticed that with the latest update and WDR enabled with default settings the video is rather dark. It might be the CPL filter adding to this?

Exactly, i noticed this too. The overall WDR image quality has improved quite a lot, but it seems to me that the brighter the scene, the darker the image for some reason.

That is exactly the reason why I went back to version 2.5.

Be wary of firmware 2.7: after updating my camera, I came back the next day to a bricked camera, and because it is 3 months out of warranty there appears to be no real resource. Camera was working flawlessly before, pretty unfortunate that their own software was the demise of the camera.

Пользуюсь прошивкой 2.7 со дня когда она вышла. Всё отлично проблем нет. Если не считать что запись стала чуть темнее.

(Translation to English)

I've been using firmware 2.7 since the day it came out. Everything is great no problems. Except that the recording became a little darker.

******

The same for me too.

Paul.

Yea, most folk have been fine with 2.7 it seems. Unfortuantely, for me, it bricked the camera.

I don't recall ever hearing anyone bricking an A129. Did you try to reload the firmware? If that didn't work, try to reload the boot loader.

It straight up doesn't react to power. Plug it in and it just stays as cold as last night's left overs. Loaded firmware onto the SD card, no reaction.

How does one reload the boot loader?

Edit: Okay, maybe CYA has some voodoo black magic but the second I replied to him, the thing burst to life. I had left it plugged into the wall outlet over the last few days, and I guess something finally triggered it?!

Edit 2: Uh, firmware version shows as 2.8...? The heck.

After the update, be sure to go into the settings and manually default the cameras settings, then press and hold the hard reset button on the side of the camera for about 5 seconds.
