A329. What is this?

Apparently, 4K 60fps with HDR is not possible...
So 4K30 HDR is actually 4K @ 60 fps, but they're combining two subsequent frames shots at slightly different times to create the HDR effect and so you wind up with 30 frames per second of video.

4K60 HDR is possible, but that would require the dashcam to be capable of shooting at 120 fps. There are many cameras available today that can do that, but it does add more complexity, processing power requirements, cooling additions, etc.

What size ssd are you running? In the manual it doesn’t state size limitation.
I've been testing with 2 TB SSD's. The website says that it supports up to 4 TB.

I've got a 4TB drive as well, but I need to shuffle data around to offload everything on it before I can test with it.

The WiFi 6 upgrade is noticeable. Transfer speeds are around 28 MB/s, ~3x faster than the A229 Pro.
I hope you will test Wi-Fi 5 vs Wi-Fi 6 because right now I don't have a smartphone with Wi-Fi 6.
(For me is not a financial problem to buy a new smartphone but it must to be Samsung with CSC code from Ukraine or Thailand and this is not easy to obtain it in Europe. My Actual Samsung Galaxy A51 is version SM-A515F which is compatible with CSC code THL from Thailand and I cannot upgrade it because in Europe I cannot find a model with desired CSC code.)

Presumably 60Mega Bytes per second?

Yes, SSDs can have multiple layers of cache, and even multiple speeds of storage, they expect you to take a break after a while, when they will empty their fast storage into slow storage ready for the next high speed burst, I expect there are going to be a few problems unless people stick to recommended drives.
Yes, 60mbps for Maximum bitrate.
The biggest advantage of the SSD is that it is never running hot.

A nice addition are new colors for the text, 4 options. This is one of them.

white/yellow/cyan/golden
I was hoping to get my dash camera in Rose/Gold. 😉

Maybe a pink one for my wife.

Which brings something up. It would be cool to see someone build skins for the dash camera front screen.

Imagine sampling your car colour then going to the DIY paint store and spraying it the same..

Imagine if Thinkware ever answered their emails

I'm a sucker for rose gold colour, have had phones in that colour before. Skins would be nice but wonder if they would degrade in the summer heat hmmm

The wedge cameras are not bad, some are also more flat / angular / cyber truck.
So i assume doing a wrap on one would not be hard to do.

A cyber truck brushed stainless steel version? With fingerprints 🤣

Might be a bit hot to the touch, but I guess cyber trucks are too in the sun?

Sounds like a recipe for disaster lol

Sure someone in the world has 3D printed a shell for their dashcam, don't think anyone here on DCT could be bothered going to all that effort lol

I’ve had an A329 for a little while now for testing.
Is this a pre-production unit, or a retail version with a serial number?
The 60 fps can be helpful in some instances, especially in the daytime when it’s a bit darker, but not at night.
Do you know what the Bitrates & 1 Minute File Sizes are for the FRONT camera only;
1.) 4K30 HDR Off
2.) 4K60 HDR Off
3.) 4K30 HDR On
4.) Is Bitrate fixed, or variable?

What cell phone did you test with?
I can't wait to get the iPhone SE 4 for Walmart Black Friday 2025 for $199.
It is supposed to get Type-C USB 3.0, so it will be able to take advantage of the super fast downloading from the A329.
The cooling improvements mean that the A329 does run cooler than the A229 Pro.
Do you mean the cooling improvements of the processor, or the additional side vents?
Did you measure the heat difference with a thermal imaging camera?
The A329 is capped at 2CH max so it’s less versatile than the A229 Pro.
But, now we don't have front channel Bitrate "cut in half" when adding a 3rd channel.
Fixed blade dagger vs. Swiss army knife. lol
It's actually 60 individual frames per second
VIOFO said the Bitrate would increase when enabling 60fps.
Did we get the requested 100Mbps? lol

3D printed shell with a fan mount?

So I’ve had an A329 for a little while now for testing. I’m actively working on my video on it.
HDMI Output
I have a feeling Viofo brought back the A/V output (HDMI) for the folks who keep asking;
“Can I use the 2.4” LCD screen on the main unit as live view backup camera with the rear camera feed?”
Or commercial applications like bus / truck drivers.
Would you be interested in testing this out?
I thought about testing it out but it would require purchasing a monitor, and a micro HDMI cable;

Would have expected faster than 28/30MBps for WiFi 6, but I'll take it. Looking forward to testing with my Xiaomi phone that supports up to WiFi 7

Great questions. Still actively testing while I put together the video, but here's some datapoints.

When running at the max bitrate, it's always 65.5 Mb/s on the front cam. This applies to both 4K60 and 4K30 HDR, 1CH and 2CH. There's no performance gain or drop when switching between 1CH or 2CH.

I tested with the iPhone 14 Pro which supports WiFi 6.

I used an IR thermal cam and looked around all the different sides of the camera externally. Temperature differences of course varied depending on where you're aiming the dashcam. I also saw greater temperature differences after 1 hour than after running the dashcams overnight.

I guess it's technically higher than the 60Mb/sec of the 1CH for A229 Pro, I'm guessing Viofo would have pushed for higher but maybe the thermal constraints have come into play here again..

The super night vision for the 1fps timelapse parking recording definitely makes a big difference. Check this out parked in a dark culdesac...

SNV Comparison Large.webp

I'm also seeing a weird flickering when driving at 4K60 at night where the frame quickly bounces between blue and orange. It kind of reminds me of what I saw with the A139 Pro. 4K30 HDR looks much more natural, exposure and color-wise.
