Any more news on the rear plug in camera for 512gw ultra

You can't connect any camera to it @Blue_Steele I'm sorry, you can of course use any camera you like in the rear as a separate device.

The 612GW is working at maximum capacity with the 4K images, adding a rear cam isn't an option.
So how long does a person wait. I want a front and rear camera setup. But nextbase seem to be taking their sweet time. Realistically, it doesnt make sence to release a camera with a rear option that isn't or may not even be available anytime soon.

I can see this driving many customers away.

It might be that the rear cam isn't quite finished. Would you rather a company push out the release of a product that might end up being problematic, or wait a bit longer for them to release it when they're certain it's gonna work properly?

Im quite happy to wait for a fault free rear cam to connect to my 512GW.

However I have a question.
The hardwire kit comes with a 4m cable BUT the camera connector is straight and not the neat 90degree connector provided with the 512GW.
So, if I open the black box 'transformer' would it be possible to replace the original straight connector cable with my neater 90degree connector cable?
Or is the black box full of micro chips and gizmos that make this modification impossible?

Im capable of doing the soldering and heat sealing but not playing around with micros etc.
Not bothered about the warrantee on the hardwire kit btw.

Which hardwire kit do you have?? I'm sure my kit has the 90 degree connector

There is a thread where someone had a 90 degree adaptor, one minute I’ll try and find it. There are only straight Nextbase Hardwire kits (our older models 202, 402g and so on needed the straight version).

@Kremmen was it you that bought the adaptor?

My 2year old 512G uses a straight connector, the plug-in being at the left top of the camera body.
My new and unused 512GW has a 90degree connector, the DC plug-in being on the r/h side of the GPS shoe.

Can I also point out that neither connector fits flush with the relevant body, both have a 1mm gap between the body and the plug which allows some sideways movement and could lead to wear and moisture ingress. a snug fit of the plug into the socket would eliminate these potential problems with its tighter and more professional connection.

My hardwire kit #NBDVRHK-RP purchased from Maplin.

Yes that is what I was referring to above - there is one hardwire kit for all models, the 512G would be a squeeze to fit the 90 degree cable.

There are adaptors available - I will see where I have seen one being spoken about on this forum.

Thank you Tiffany.
Another question, can I make the initial charge of my new 512GW using the USB cable and a computer or 240V phone charger rather than complete 2hours of driving before I can set up the camera?

Thanks in advance.

You're welcome.

You can use the computer yes that's OK - if you're going to use the mains inside your home please use a 5V mains plug adaptor, phone chargers are usually OK.

Hi @NextBase Tiffany

Are there any more updates on the rear camera? Currently running a 412gw in my partner's car and will put an512gw in mine once the camera is launched.

Thanks

As the rear view cam plugs straight into front cam. The removal of cam from click and go mount won't be quite so straightforward.

Hi new to forum
I emailed sales@nextbase.com and asked about rear cam for 512gw/612gw.
Got a reply saying rear cam will be available from Halfords in January priced arohnd £60 also said it will only be compatable with 512gw as 612gw records in 4k
Staff in local Halfords hadn't heard anything last time I asked
