BlackVue Elite 9 - Testing/Review - RCG

This video contains day and night video samples from five dash cameras [including the BlackVue Elite 9]. I show how well each front and rear camera captures license plates.

I was able to install the camera today. One thing I noticed coming from Thinkware is that you cannot turn off the battery protection features, despite using an external battery pack. I actually want my battery to get depleted so it can record as long as possible since it will fast charge with the fuse tap. If I try to turn off the battery protection the app tells me I need either voltage cutoff or time cutoff enabled. Any way around this?

Interesting. I just checked on my Elite 9 and I see that you can no longer enable "Battery Protection" but turn off the low voltage cutoff and timer cutoff features like I still can with my DR970X Plus dash camera with its latest firmware v2.006.

The Elite 9 "Battery Protection" section's on-screen info suggests to use the low voltage cutoff set to 11.8V when using a dash camera battery pack. I'm meeting with Pittasoft/BlackVue reps over the next couple of days at CES 2026. I'll ask why the Elite series now has to have at least one of the battery protection features enabled even when you're using a dash camera battery pack.

Yeah, I noticed this on my Elite 10. Even with it set to 11.8V, after I got the notification that the cam was shutting down the next time I started the car my B130A reported it still had 27% battery.

I am interested into hearing what they have to say. Blackvue's documentation from their older cams shows you can disable it so this is a new change. It would be nice to disable it completely.

For the time being, I set it to 48 hour shutoff which i think is more than what the battery can handle.

Also I am not used to the 5 feet shorter rear camera cable than Thinkware so I either need to get a longer cable or route the cable a different way 😅

27% battery.
That quite a bit of battery left on the floor, the dashcam power pack should be able to handle its own low voltage situation.
I suppose the reason as to why there are not such a feature is some / many will still use the car battery which of course do not have a low power protection.

IMHO dashcams should be made with power pack usage in mind, and then have the option to buy a hardwire kit with build in low voltage protection if you intend to use the car battery.

I checked and I had 46% left after about 14 ish hours with single channel. Turning the car on said parking mode off, so the timer cutoff is good. It got back to 100% on my commute. I'd imagine it would be a bit less with dual channel.

One more thing I wanted to note, blackvue docs mention the parking delay being 3 minutes before and after.

Has this been working on the Elite cameras for you guys? I tested parking mode the other day when I installed the camera and battery and could have sworn I still got a parking impact as soon as it entered parking mode. Might need to test this again.

The Elite series does not use G-sensor-triggered parking mode (enters parking mode after a few minutes of no movement). It also does not have a 3 minute delay for parking/impact detection. It has around 30 seconds between parking before triggering an impact detection to allow people to exit vehicle and stop false positives.
Their Parking Mode is based solely on the ignition signal. This means the camera automatically switches to Parking Mode when the engine is turned off. It prevents it going into parking mode when stuck in traffic.

When changing camera settings via the app using the "seamless pairing" option does anyone notice that the app will disconnect from the camera when you save settings or go back to the main blackvue app menu?

For example, if I change the timezone and then click save. The camera will say settings changed and then I notice that the wifi connects to my carplay or home wifi and disconnects from the camera.

I had to change each setting pane one by one to ensure everything saved since the first time it didnt as it disconnected.

Using ios 26.3 beta on a 17 pro.

Some settings changes require the camera to reboot. This disconnects the app & cloud momentarily.

Changing time/timezone results in wiping the SD card and reboot for example. It gives that warning when you save the settings.

You don't need to press SAVE after each setting change.
Just change all the settings you want in all the menus, then go back to main menu and save.
That then saves all in one go.

I had the same with the disconnection & reconnecting to nearby WiFi - if you temporarily disable the Auto-Join on those networks, then it will reconnect to the camera once rebooted. A pain, but hopefully something you don't have to do often. - Or just change the settings when away from known networks...

I tried that when I first set the camera up and it disconnected sometime in changing the parking mode settings since they never saved and the recording settings were still the defaults.

You can also change the camera settings when NOT connected, and it will update the camera to the new settings when it connects to the cloud later.

This is a good feature of the camera is off, or the battery has died and you want to update/amend settings before you forget - it remembers your changes in the app and auto rolls it out to the camera without you having to do anything when it next powers on and connects to the cloud.

Thats a nice feature. I havent messed with the cloud yet due to time, needing to do the rear camera install, and wanting to ensure my settings are set to prevent a public camera feed or gps on the map.

Public feed should be turned off by default.

The GPS recording is for your own feed/video files.
So turning that off will remove any GPS recording at all.
GPS can be good because that's how it logs your vehicle speed, and also location which can be good evidence for incidents, or if you're arguing a speeding dispute or denying being at a location at a certain time etc.

So unless you have any reason to turn it off, if just recommend making sure public feed is turned off, but leave other GPS on.

This setting? I disabled it since it mentioned sending it to the cloud server. I didnt realize it turned off GPS even locally. How can I confirm that public feed is off? I believe its off anyway since cloud isn't even enabled.

You may want to start your own thread as it starting to fill up RCG530's review thread.

But yes, keeping that turned on is for your own personal use.
ie, recording GPS location as part of your saved videos on the SD card, but also sending that information over the Cloud if you're remote viewing the camera. This is good for when you're checking up on the vehicle whilst someone else is driving, but it can also work as a basic tracker if the vehicle is stolen.
Having that on doesn't mean it's publicly broadcast.

I captured some driving footage from an Elite 9 and an Elite 10 dash camera. I shows how the Elite 9's 2K rear camera with HDR support looks compared to the Elite 10's 4K rear camera without HDR support in a post in my Elite 10 test/review thread. In the post just after that first post, I have frame grabs from the front and rear cameras showing how each one captures the same location/lighting.
