Dashcam Viewer for Mac and Windows

I had some time over the weekend to produce an updated Dashcam Viewer video tutorial. This one covers v2.1.2. The previous covered v1.8.3.

I apologize for the length (it is 23 minutes loooong) but it is fairly comprehensive.

Tony, I am not familiar with that dashcam model. You can try it and see what happens. It may work if the GPS data format is similar to a supported model. Also, see the FAQ, question #1.

QVIA is Lukas actually.

Ok I will try!

Btw, is it possible to pay for the full version via Paypal?

Yes, the Mac and Windows PayPal links are listed in the dashcamviewer.com website.

Thanks for the video. I learned a couple of new* things.

I really look forward to the Click To Go feature being available in Windows. That is a big deal to me because when I want to review video I tend to remember where I was at the time rather than the time the event occurred.

*maybe not new because the user manual is pretty complete, but certainly a nice reminder of some of the features I had forgotten.

Yep, that's high on my priority list, @WestTx.

Hi John,

Thanks. BTW after every upgrade the windows do get nuts eg. I have a preset arrangement and after the upgrade it is destroyed ... Maybe you could take a look into this. It does not save the position of the prior version.

Thanks and regards Rainer

Hi John (@traveler). I tried your software over a year ago, and at the time didn't really get in to it (I don't recall why). But after watching your latest video, I decided to give it another go. Unfortunately, I'm recording all of my video at the highest resolution/bitrate on the 0806. Please forgive me if this was addressed in one of the previous 11 pages, but do you see the ability to play the higher resolutions on your software directly? It would be a shame to record everything in 1080p (or re-render) just so the player would be compatible.

Thanks for your efforts with the program.

Success with movies greater than 1080p is very computer dependent. Some computers have no problem displaying videos >1080p in Dashcam Viewer. Others have a black screen. Seems like newer machines with i7 chip and good video cards fare better.

Interesting. Then I wonder if I don't have something not set correctly, because I'm running an i7-4790 with top end specs. I can play more than 4 cascaded windows of 2560x1080 simultaneously using either VLC or Windows Media Player Classic... And no problems with registrator viewer either. Not a single dropped frame.

Is it possible that your app is calling for an internal codec vs what the other apps are using?

Dashcam Viewer on my $700 ASUS i7 Win10 laptop plays 1296p videos just fine. Some folks with PCs reported problems with their dashcams at >1080p. It's hard to predict if a given system/video combo will play correctly at >1080p. I think it has to do with a combination of hardware, video card, driver, OS version, and compliance of dashcam video to the container format. On the Mac side, these factors are more consistent so there are fewer issues.

BTW, I run my 0806 at 720p because I have found instability at higher resolutions. For example, the 0806 will just stop recording with no warning at 1080p and higher. By trial and error I have found that 720p appears to be reliable. Maybe the processor was getting too hot at higher rez. The CCD sensors in the cheaper dashcams are so small I wonder if the higher resolutions really do produce more legible video or is it a marketing gimmick??
