I was just wondering the dashcams that have the GPS info in the video itself, is that data there as a stream as the video play or is it there as a chunk of data say in the start of a video ?

Just asking, some times my brain pick out little things, not necessary things i can use for anything.

Good question. The answer is that there is no standard means of encoding the GPS data into the file. Different vendors use different schemes. Some models encode the data 'as you go' so it's scattered within the file. Some vendors encode the data near the end of the file in a single block. Some hide the data in the subtitle track. When you load a set of videos into Dashcam Viewer, the first video is scanned to determine which method is being used. Subsequent videos are assumed to also be using this method so they are not scanned which saves processing time.

Yeah i figured something like that, TBH i would assume a "massive" block at the end would be the most popular approach.
NEways way past my geek level such things, sadly this kind of thing at least in my mind dont yield a immediate result you can step back and admire, and so things like coding ASO my brain just refuse to deal with.
Even if you can of course write a simple code for something simple and get a result.

Going to trade school back in the day, the only thing teachers ever told me directly was " you have to work slower", and i was like WTF ?????? i am not even trying to be fast here.
Though usually the last week or so i was just there to wait for the other people to get done and that course to end so i could get back to my work place and do something meaningful.
Otherwise i was just a fly on the wall no one noticed, and what ever gibberish ( math ) i did not understand, well i just constructed my way around those problems.
Probably also why when we got around to CNC programming, i just stepped back and let the other guys play with that, so even if that have become a lot smarter since the mid 80ties, it is not something i would want to work with.

Dashcam Viewer v3.6.3 Released for Mac and Windows

Dashcam Viewer v3.6.3 was released today for both Mac and Windows with the following new improvements:

New Features:
  • Implemented new GPS Data Cache system, which speeds loading of video files by a factor of 100x or more the next time the files are loaded. The Free and Standard versions cache up to 1,000 files and the version caches up to 10,000 files. Once the limit is reached, the oldest files in the cache will be deleted to make room for the newer ones being loaded. This feature applies to dashcams that embed their GPS data in the video file itself. By default this feature is enabled, but it can be disabled in the Advanced Preferences. Special thanks to forum member @Peter_R for sparking the idea for this feature.

Bug Fixes:
  • Improved the behavior of the Main Window so that it retains its size and position between program runs.
  • Fixed minor bug in Trip gap time calculation if gap > 1 day.

Request:

@traveler

It takes a steady hand to position the various 'tiles' optimally and even then they are often not exactly lined up.

Would it be possible to implement an auto tile function ?

In addition, would it be possible to have multiple profiles, that are easily switchable? this would allow you to test new displays of tiles whilst still having one or more profiles as backup in case the new display doesn't work.

You can use the Reset Window Positions menu item to align all windows to their default positions. But I like the idea of providing user-defined custom palette arrangements.

Here's a fun video I made showing the performance boost with the GPS data cache feature implemented in version 3.6.3 (and improved in v3.6.4)

Still tweaking v3.6.4 so I haven't released it yet. But most of the caching improvements are in 3.6.3.

Are we going to see .ts file format support? I have 2 new cams which use it as their native format. Appreciate the good job you've done with this platform (y)

Like the 70ties soundtrack :)

If not already on the list, request support for the Blackvue DR900X series.

Hi y'awll,

I just installed the Dashcam Viewer v3.6.3 & it plays my AZDOME GS63H dashcam files with no probs.
("cept for the intermittent lousy recorded audio & the occasional fast forwarding of the audio & GPS data on the map.)

I have a SENEO Super 1296 P HD dashcam, which apparently no-one uses, but moi.
The cams version info is > G98-WP-A770-1916-S7L
Now, the SENEO files load no probs but I get a pop up saying that it requires the K-Lite codec (basic) pack.
I have the latest FULL pack already installed.
(I installed the Basic pack but it removed all the good features of the FULL pack....eg; no more MPC HC viewer.)

I have D/L'd & installed the basic pack v1595. How does it install in the player?

My SENEO probs...
1/. It does not display any Google or Map Quest maps.
The screen is just black.
2/. There are NO Graph (speed, distance etc.,) read outs.
3/. The Dash Board is just a static image.

Other than those few items, it's fine.
Now trying to learn how to operate/navigate in the new "beastie."
Thanks for all your great work, John.

Ta muchly for any assistance.

Stay safe.

Regs, Mike..

Hello John, aka @traveler! Would you be able to provide a link to v3.6.1 for Mac OS X? I'm still on an older computer and running this older operating system, and thus unable to update to the latest Dashcam Viewer version (currently v3.6.4) since it is no longer supported on my computer. Much appreciated if you're able to assist!

Working on it, @SawMaster . Doing testing with PapaGo P2 Pro *.ts files.

If not already on the list, request support for the Blackvue DR900X series.

Not familiar with that model, @KANNINA 2.0. Please see the FAQ question #1 regarding sending me video/data samples.

Hello John,
Camera details sent as requested.

A quick comment though...

When I open the viewer, a pop up screen appears saying to update to 3.6.4.

I run a 32 bit OS so I require a 32 bit version, as you know.

Is one available?

Much appreciated.

Regards, Mike..

I don't advertise it because I want to focus on the 64-bit versions, but, yes, there is a 32-bit Windows version. Here is a link to version 3.6.4, 32-bit Windows.
