Mobius ActionCam Wishlist 2015

Cheers Isoprop,

Am very pleased that you were able to replicate my results, though I'm still none the wiser as to why exFAT is generally preferred to FAT32, is it something to do with the maximum recording time per clip which in our case isn't relevant? Am sure I read somewhere in the manual that the max clip size when set to continuously record is 4GB.

I roughly counted up the total recording time on the card over the last three days and came up with a figure of about 11 hours 19 minutes, the bit rate across all the files I checked was between 18.202 and 18.208

Have enclosed screenshots of the 'get info' for the Sandisk 128GB card and also the 'get info' for one of the video files recorded onto the card using the Mobius.

For some strange reason the forum software wouldn't upload the 2nd jpg into my post so here it is.

Any luck with ordering/using these cables?

I tried again tonight but unfortunately they want a minimum of $25 to ship out of the USA to the UK, have enclosed shipping information from their website below which seems rather steep compared with the Chinese manufacturers and indeed many UK distributers such as Farnell and RS Components:

Shipping and Processing: All orders are shipped FOB our plant in North Andover, MA or our plant in Boca Raton, FL, respectively. The minimum shipping and processing charge for domestic ground shipments is $10.95. The minimum shipping and processing charge for domestic C.O.D. ground shipments is $21.95. Canadian ground shipments are $16.95 and orders shipped outside of the USA and Canada will be charged a minimum of $25.00 handling fee.

That stinks. L-Com's website lists ITM as a UK distributor. They may be worth a try. I've not used the L-Com cables you want to acquire, but have used other cables they make. High quality cables.

At's all about stability. exFAT may work for a few rounds of loop recording but then the recording will stop. FAT32 is much more stable but will, all the same, fail with some cards.
exFAT is perfect if you don't use loop recording.

Thanks for the screenshot. Unfortunately there's no indication about the cluster sizes...

Cheers Isoprop for the info, you confirmed what I thought I had read it on here somewhere, probably buried in one of the 98 pages on using the Mobius!

Regarding the cluster information I did spot some info about clusters in the 'Disk Utility' log, on my MacBook there is a small square shown in the top right of the Disk Utility page, if you click it then the entire log is displayed. If it's not showing on the Mac that you have used, then from the Disk Utility menu select 'Window' then click on 'Show Log'.

Have copied and pasted the log contents which I think are relevant when I formatted the 128GB card, there was a ton of code so am hoping I copied and pasted the relevant bits that you might need - hope this helps:

Cheers guys.
Just bought a Lexar 128GB (95MB/s) card off Amazon. Had it running constantly off a mains adaptor from 18:00 Friday all the way through to 22:20 tonight. Set the parameters to highest bitrate & have 3o6 x 3min files (even the last one is 3m 01s long). Some files are listed as being 393MB, others as 396MB. Earliest file is from 07:02 this morning, last file finished at 22:20.
I formatted using the FAT32 prog & all seems well.
According to "devices and drives", the card has 841MB free of 119GB. Looking at the properties of the files, bitrate is 18205 @ 30fps
Would love to know where the odd 9GB of storage has gone, especially as @richcam is showing 126.8 used of 127.8.
Is it worth formatting in the cam using MSETUP?

Hi sludgeguts, apologies for the late reply, I missed your post!

I'm curious was to why the file sizes on your Mobius are somewhat smaller at 393MB and 396MB for 3 minute clips because I'm sure mine are averaging out at approx 415MB per 3 minutes, even though you appear to be running identical settings - are you saving the files as MOV, AVI or MP4.

You mentioned that you formatted the card FAT32, what software did you use to do that, was it Disk Utility for the Mac or a PC prog?

Also, you mentioned formatting the card in the cam using MSETUP, I think you can only do that for cards up to 32GB, anything larger than that you have to use your computer - isoprop will probably have a better idea on what can or can't be done than me.

I used the guiformat prog as per isoprop's post (above). I tried the Mobius format prog but that wasn't successful so had to reformat using guiformat. Files are saved as MOV.
It's a strange one alright!

My wishes:
4:3 resolutión
1920x1440p or more
wifi/bluetoth
60 fps
genlock multicam
replacement very easy lens

why 4:3? why not wider and shorter (you don't really need to record the dashboard and the sky)?
i think that the mini 0805/0806 have the best resolution ratio yet - 21:9

This is the reason among others the success of GoPro in the world of video 360 , it is now also possible with Xiaomi Yi
GoPro among other action cameras , has an unusual resolution in the world of videocameras ; atypical video format ( we can say , 4 : 3 different 1440x1080p ) . Hero 1, 2 and 3 provide 1280x960P resolution , the hero3 Black 1920x1440p . What you get with this video format is to increase the VFO ( vertical field ) . Not so with the video format 4: 3 TV that keeps the VFO and cut the HFO (horizontal field of vision ) . The conclusion is that we need fewer cameras to complete the field . With six it is enough.

if the Mobius 2 offers this format video we can make video 360 with 6 cameras, if we replace their lenses for fishheye with fewer cameras, with 4, 3 or even 2 cameras we can make 360

Another reason is that most superfice overlap is achieved ,
It improves image stitching and minimizes parallax error

For dash cam use, the vertical field of view is less important than the horizontal field of view.
you don't need to record the sky (white balance issues) or your dashboard.
for multi-rotors i can understand the use of 4:3 but not for cars use.

I wish more resolution formats not remove 16: 9 or 21: 9
A multipurpose camera !!

If the Mobius 2 would provide a resolution as announced by kodak-pixpro-sp360-4k-360-degree , it would be possible to build a video equip 360 for little money and Mobius Cam enter fully into the video (3d /360) market

kodak-pixpro-sp360-4k
  • 12 megapixels, BSICMOS sensor
  • Fixed focus lens (F.2.8) that takes 360° spherical images
  • Viewing options: Dome (235°), Front, Global (360°), Ring, Segment (180° front and 180°rear) or Panorama mode
  • High speed videos 1280 x 720 (120fps); plays back with normal 30fps speed.
  • 4K HD videos in 2880 x 2880 (30fps) (true? or interpolation?)
  • Dimensions/weight: 48 x 50 x 52.5 mm/127.7g (With battery and Micro SD Card)
  • price 299 dollars

Just read the post of the potential future specs of the Mobius 2...1080p/60fps is all I really want anything else is a bonus, also good to hear the form factor of the M2 is going to be smilar to the M1.

I don't know about anyone else but all I need is a small camera with excellent video quality that is reliable, the current M1 meets this perfectly, so when the new M2 is released hopefully we are in for a real treat.
