SG9663DC with external waterproof rear cam.

nothing needed removing, there's a big licence plate sized hole above the licence plate that the cables are routed through and then back through the body via a factory grommet where the factory fitted reverse camera was cabled through

It looks like you had to make two screw holes to mount the camera though?

travel only, I go nuts if I have to use them for any length of time, I run 3 x 32" monitors on my PC, gets hard going back to a single small screen

My inner geek gave up and offed itself long ago. I'm on a 14 inch laptop as my primary computer. I have a desktop I built about a decade ago I occasionally power up if I need something off it. When buying a new laptop, I opted for nothing special. Choice was a 1.5kg i7-8565U with 8GB ram and 512GB SSD or a 3 kg gaming rig for a bit more. I opted for the basics. I dont watch much on the laptop beyond news and youtube. Check Email. Go on a few forums and that's about it.

No gaming. No Movies.....So Laptop does it all. If I am truly needing a bigger picture, I could hook it up via an HDMI cable. The desktop an old i7-920 actually is still pretty speedy at handling whatever I need a decade later. If and/or when I need it.

Don't get me wrong, I like tech. Thing @kamkar1 is super lucky to beta test a bunch of new cameras and getting all the latest and greatest tech. Would be sweet and fun. But far as pcs go, there's very little to justify me having one of any horsepower or size.

A little offset should not matter much wit the wide angles of dashcams.
if some offset is needed I prefer to put the camera more toward the drivers side, helps even up the offset you already have by driving on one side of the road

I am deeply affiliated with Street guardian have been that almost since day #1, they are my #1 source for more work,

Even if i most times advise against the smart cameras, then they sort of intrigue me too.

I am a bit skeptical of GPS / Speed but I see the intrinsic need and have enabled both on my camera. For instance, the GPS will let you load up a program like GPSCam which will use the coordinates to overlay the route taken onto a map. Very useful if say you had an accident or a problem but aren't aware of your exact location.

Speed again is good. If there is a problem speed can be a critical component to proving fault.

The thing to remember is to make the camera to your benefit. Ever have something your fault, pop out that memory card, and be sure the camera "wasn't functioning".

I am still on the fence about a 360 dash camera or taxi camera. I don't like the idea of being filmed driving, which is the only way to capture the blindspots created by only having a front and rear facing camera.

No i am not a company, but as SG send me free cameras i must say i am affiliated with them, but there are no contracts and no expectations beyond honesty among us.

In my last batch was the SG9663DC - SGGCX2 and the GT63EX, the two SG cameras have both seen updates, but nothing major, so i reckon not really a reason to send me those too.
And i also still think the "old" DC are a fine camera, they dont have to take it off the listings just like that, but i do recommend if you want a new camera you should go for the PRO versions, but take the regular DC if money are a little tight.
The SGGCX2 i gave away a few months ago hoping for the new models to be imminent ( i donate all test cameras after i am done with them, i have never liked selling anything used only done that once in my life with my Amiga 500 ) the kid that got the SGGCX2 was very happy with his "new" dashcam, next up is the GT63EX camera that will also be donated to someone local.
The DC i think will go to my friends car, he only have the old GC V3 on this windscreen, and though he are not a dashcam enthusiast he have said he would like a dual system.

When Rick / jokiin send stuff he dont low ball anything, there are a lot of good and also costly stuff in his parcels beside the cameras, and with the last parcel i agreed with myself that if he keep this up i better sit down next time i open a parcel from Street Guardian.

Sounds fun. You run all your cameras off battery packs, correct, and never a direct hardwire to fuse box. Has this ever caused any issues or never noticed a difference?

So what is the difference between the DC and DCPRO? Specs on their page show identical components. Just curious as you mentioned the DC being the older and outdated model.

Funny thing about Dash Cameras is people give me that c0ck-eyed look you get from a dog when I mention I own one. Why do you need it? Are you that worried about something happening? I explain I've already captured 2 accidents with Dash Cameras and Flying Debris hitting my car. Life happens, and having proof makes it a little easier. Instead of having to get two different accounts of an incident, the video doesn't lie.

Trying to explain the benefits doesn't really seem to hit home much, but I'm not there to convince anyone otherwise. I did force one on my mother, who for months kept asking if it was a backup camera and what did it do. Finally when she had a car run a light and told me about it, I pulled off video and showed her, and she understood. My mother is just shy of 70 and it took me AGES to get her a smart phone. Now she loves it a year or so later.

Nice of you to donate the old hardware to other folks who can make good use.

I am also not too happy about blasting my face out there on the internet, though i am a handsome old bloke that get pretty girls smiling.
It is probably only in here it have figured some times, and also the videos with my face i think are all private, so people would have to stumble over the link in here to see those.

Everyone else in the world seem to be very happy putting them self out there, so me liking to be different i will not do that for that reason too, the vloggers or as i call them camera suicidal as they point it at them self i dont get.
If i was to make a YT channel say with me reviewing stuff, i would have to name it, "some old guy with a Scandinavian accent reviewing stuff" cuz all you would see would be my hands.
I did start my "the little camera channel up" when SJ cams also started to semd me cameras, but that also fizzed out soon, as the company changed policy or something, so only big players get a taste of their new cameras now.

No i use the provided PSU for months as i must also make sure it is good, and then if room get tight in my glove box i might move a camera or two to the USB chargers i also have in the glove box.
I reckon with the next batch of SG cameras i will also get a hard wire kit so i can try that stuff out too, though i dont really feel a big need for parking mode, but still it will be nice to try out.
But i will only use the parking mode on a timer or with a really high cut off voltage, it is extremely rare i park for a long time in a place where parking mode would be nice to have.

Never liked my own look or sound for that matter on camera.
The family are also instructed that if the post any pictures with me in them on social media it is okay, just dont writhe that's my uncle or something like that.

Same...I find no pleasure in using Facebook or social media. Nor do I like posting personal information for all the world to see. I'll edit out any identifying information if I share a clip here. Privacy is a dying art with facial recognition, your phones pinging off cell towers tracking your every step, etc. But doesn't mean I have to add more insult to injury...

Nothing like stupid Millenials posting Drunken Photos and Compromising images that'll later come back and haunt them down the road. Bragging about being sh1t faced and going down on several girls (and posting the photo of you drunk, etc with them) definitely isn't going to help one's CV. Not unless you're aiming for a career as a porn star.

Kids don't get it that their future bosses CAN and WILL check their online presence in any career field of semi importance.

Future career as a hand model???

Wish I'd been here from the get go. Sounds fun beta testing cameras for various companies.

No i have a skin decease issue, it use to be on my legs, but then i got some new stuff that made it go away there in days, just to appear on my knuckles and fingertips a week or two later, and there the stuff that worked super on my leg do not work at all :)
but at least it is not as bad as on my legs which was often 2 huge wounds i scratched to blood while sleeping and so often as a kid waking up fused to the bed sheet.
Some have said it is psoriasis but the other people i have know with that it dont look like what i got.

vampire mode, you need some sun ;)

Testing with SG are a breeze, others i have worked with are a bit harder, some times you feel like you are talking to a brick wall, but it might be a language problem, not all are strong in English.

Which is why you don't ask friends, but someone who studied medicine for a dozen years, for proper diagnosis ;) . I think they call those guys / gals Doctors!

Yes sun and salt water do work good on the stuff, but with age i am not really much in the sun or in the water.
The water up here in summer, i am not going in it unless it is 20 deg C, and that you only see for a few days in the best of summers.

I could do with a couple of weeks on Bondi, in the back with binoculars and a fridge box with cold liquid stuff in it to cool down when i have ooglet too many pretty Sheilas.

I have been to doctors and skin specialists, and used hundreds of ointments and they have blasted my leg with radioactive waves.
Only fun thing about that was it was the same place where they do STD, so some times you would see girl and boy waiting, then the girl would go in, and a little later the doctor would come out and get the boy too :)

4 years of that in my later school years and after school.

Viofo has a serious language barrier. I know English is a hard language to master, but for better or worse, it's the universal language of tech support.....Well, sort of, as India sucks at tech support and English. I call it customer disservice.

That being said, I believe parking mode is a critical element to test. I find it very useful when I park my car and run into a place. It only takes a few moments for someone to back into your car or cause damage. One reason I would like a taxi cam, but I have yet to overcome the loss of privacy echo saying "Don't Do It". None the less, I think making sure this feature performs properly is crucial. I've seen many of videos online where people's parked cars have been hit and the driver takes off leaving them with a huge repair bill.

@jokiin is very responsive. When asked on another forum about Dash Cameras, I point out that I own a Viofo and like the camera. But technical support is lacking. If you are looking for very responsive feedback, and a reliable camera, I recommend Street Guardian. Especially if there's an issue and you need guidance in solving the problem. I've never seen a company as responsive and concerned about their products as Street Guardian.

Congratulations you two horn dogs. You said your love was forever, and it will remain true. That case of herpes you both have will never go away! Can't imagine being the one to share that news to frisky young couples with a straight face.

I think what jokiin do on this forum are worth a lot of youtube commercial dollars, even if he cant handle all things personal he can facilitate contact to the proper person, and dish out a lot of knowledge when people hit a wall with the SG or other product.
More brands should do that, maybe not the boss man himself, but then someone in the company that have knowledge and can make things happen.
