The same as most people here, Storage IO error, low speed card errors.

I bought a 16Gb C4 kingston card, it's been perfect since.
What version of the camera do you have? 8gb internal, or not? GPS, yes or no?
And what firmware is your camera running?

I just received the following email!
The thing is, I never received a TS version from Givoe, I received that one from e-prance.
I guess I'll try it, I'm the 0801 With GPS And 8GB.
I don't think they ever released the internal 8GB version as TS anyway so sounds good. (probably lost in translation and complexity as usual)

Ok so last night right before bed, I applied 0801 With GPS And 8GB: http://www.givoe.com/upload/file/soft/fw/Firmware-0801-244-2212-GPS-8GB-20130924.zip

The "G-SENSOR CALIBRATION" still hangs and won't complete :( Not that I care if it works, but I'd like to know my hardware is fully compatible with the firmware released. Gave up on that so powered down the camera and turned it back on.

Ok so I formatted the card via 0801 menu, and let it record all night. (8H52)

le8WK2cl.jpg

I then yanked the USB power cord, and it gracefully stopped recording and shut down as it should.

I re-connected USB and it powered up, and started recording again. (no problem yet, going strong) I repeated the disconnect/reconnect and again still going!

I noticed the LED no longer flickers, like it sometimes did before I upgraded. It's a steady blink.

Next test is in my car, I'll drive around and start/stop the engine etc. (I'm still using the Samsung 32GB Class 4 card)

P.S. I also just ordered a
Samsung Electronics 32GB High Speed microSDHC Class 6 Memory Card (MB-MSBGB/AM)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/B009SK58IM

Great! I was waiting to get usb on the go cable + Male to male usb adapter order before upgrading my cam again (since last time it bricked).
I recieved it today and it's working! Now i have an cheap and easy way to unbrick the cam.
And by coincidence, new firmware available to play with!

Good to hear your OTG cable arrived, when I read your posts a few pages back, I too thought it may be useful to have, with so many usb devices these days, always handy in case one needs to recover from a bad firmware update. May not always work with all devices, but always worth a try. Mine arrived on Monday.

I assume you had formatted the card with your prior tests with older firmware. If so, its great you can confirm the new firmware has fixed your (and hopefully others) issue!

Yes every time, everyone should always format the card after a firmware update.

Ok so I went for a spin, and everything is recording rock solid. GPS is logging etc. I stopped and restarted the car dozens of times, and drove all over the place. I can't get it to trip up! (so far so good)

It's currently recording in my bedroom again. I found the spare GPS base from my other 0801 so have it connected in my bedroom now as well via GPS. I'm not calling it fixed yet but again so far so good!

I forgot to add, the new firmware I'm having a successful test with has an average bit-rate of 12Mbps. (fluctuates slightly higher/lower depending) Still going strong. On/Off dozens of times in my bedroom with GPS attached.

I'm about to shoot out so didn't have time to read the last few posts...

JazJon, I recorded overnight as you said, so card was full. As soon as I put it in my car I got "low card speed" and "storage io error". This is on 20130924.

Btw, when working and recording, the led on mine sometimes flashes blue and sometimes blue/red. Does yours do the same?

Remind me of what Size and Class speed card you have? (and brand name) Is your 0801 from Givoe? (arrived with 20130924 right?) You might need to buy the Samsung Class 6 card.

If it's blinking Blue/Off/Blue/Off that means it's recording and the battery is fully charged
If it's blinking Blue/Red/Blue/Red that means it's recording and charging the battery.
(so yes that's normal)

Haha, imagine you have to stick to the rarer and more expensive class 6 card for Mini 0801, because class 10 is too fast and class 4 is too slow, that will be unacceptable.

Thanks for the LED info.

Sorry, didn't answer all your questions.

It arrived with 20130924 from eprance on ebay (not e-prance).

flash it!?

Can a flash "brick" it? I've flashed computer mobos before but am still hesitant over my 50 pound dash cam lol

I'm going out soon so will do it over the weekend, and probably when you've been up and running successfully for a day or so!

How do I tell whether mine has the 8gb internal memory?

I don't remember the Samsung Class 6 being less than $40 last time I checked a few weeks ago. (and that's why I didn't order it right away) I just bought it since I saw it dropped to $25 USD
https://www.amazon.com/gp/B009SK58IMThat's only $1 more than the Sandisk Class 4 ones on Amazon.

I'll be using the 32GB Samsung class 6 in 0801 #1 and the 32 GB Sandisk Class 4 in 0801 #2

I need to use my 32GB Class 10 in a NEW Vicovation WF1 DashCam that just arrived yesterday. :D
It seems my passion for DashCam has not gone unnoticed. Someone just sent me a Vicovation WF1 to review. (not sure I can thank the DashCamTalk member by name yet, they said they didn't have time and knew I'd do a good job)
http://www.vicovation.com/product.asp?IDno=18&lang=en
So far the WF1 fits perfectly under my Rearview Mirror. (like dead center, looks OEM) I can't see the DashCam at all when driving just like the 0801. I used the double stick tape mount.
The Video quality is amazing, and WDR is very good for night vision. 160 degree wide angle is a bit over kill but looks good still surprisingly.
The WiFi iOS/iPhone app is pretty cool, I can transfer the .MP4 files directly into the iPhone for direct upload to youtube/facebook etc.
The WF1 doesn't have GPS though, so I'll be putting my mini 0801 in the back of my car as the Rear camera. That will be my GPS logger then. I can still attach the .log files as needed into RegistratorViewer.

I'lll be putting together a FULL detailed unbiased good/bad/ugly review soon after I worked with it for awhile first. (lots of pix/videos, and will even compare 0801 side by side)
It will be in the Vicovation section: http://dashcamtalk.com/forum/forums/vicovation.25/

So don't worry I didn't completely jump ship. The 0801 is still the perfect rear DashCam. (and keeps GPS logging)

Hey guys,

I got my camera 2 days ago. Bought it from givoe, with GPS and and a 16GB card. It's a Kingmax class 10 card. The camera came with the 20130903 firmware. I didn't update it yet (for some reason I managed to break almost every device with an update, so I'm kinda afraid to try to experiment).

I have this strange problem, in the morning it works fine, I attach the camera to the mount, I start the car, the camera starts recording etc. I get to the office, I stop car, wait for the camera to shut down, then take out of the mount and go to the office. So far o good, but I didn't manage to record none of the drives home. The first day it froze down with a black screen, and today somewhere halfway in the way home. If I restart the camera I only get a black screen, but all the menus work. I reset the device a few times, formatted the card, took the card out, but it's the same thing. If I leave it off for about 5-10 minutes it works again.

Any ideas why is this? I can't say it's due to the class10 card, as it happens with the card taken out.

Also, like I said I manage to break almost any device while updateing, could someone tell me how to update the firmware? Maybe that will resolve my issue.

@andras I would for sure try 20130924 (in the correct flavor) I'd steer clear of Class 10 cards too. The instructions say it's a bad idea, and it was explained pages back how Class 10 uses a different bus. It's supposed to be backwards compatible but isn't always the case. Based on my own latest testing, that's what I'd do. The update is easy. Jokiin said these things are relatively hard to brick compared to other devices out there.

So speaking of my testing, like I said all is well! I can't get this thing to lock up or misbehave even once! I'm not sure why the g-sensor won't calibrate but don't really care as long as I have a stable DVR loop I can count on now.

The "Update Steps:" are at the bottom of post

I just sent a message to DashCamMan asking the Mini 0801 FAQ page be updated.

http://dashcamtalk.com/mini-0801/

Did I/We miss anything?

1)
I think they finally fixed Recycle Mode issues. Mini 0801 no longer gives "STORAGE IO ERROR" and powers off when microSD card is full. It continues recording in looped mode as it should even when full.

These are for camera's bought from Givoe from AliExpress but should work with most other re-sellers 0801's.
(based on how past firmwares took, but might lose G-Sensor Calibration)

0801 Standard (NO GPS NO Internal-8GB):

0801 With GPS (NO Internal-8GB): http://www.givoe.com/upload/file/soft/fw/Firmware-0801-244-2212-GPS-20130924.zip

0801 With Internal-8GB (NO GPS): http://www.givoe.com/upload/file/soft/fw/Firmware-0801-244-2212-8GB-20130924.zip

0801 With GPS And Internal-8GB: http://www.givoe.com/upload/file/soft/fw/Firmware-0801-244-2212-GPS-8GB-20130924.zip

Update Steps: http://www.givoe.com/upload/file/soft/int/DVR-Firmware-Update-Step-0801-244-2212.pdf

2)
Blinking Blue/Off/Blue/Off = Recording in Progress (battery full)
Blinking Blue/Red/Blue/Red = Recording in Progress (battery charging)

3)
It's best to avoid Class 10 cards.
(the manual even says not to use Class 10 or my cause problems)
Class 10 cards use a different buss and are supposed to be backwards compatible but that's not always the case. The Samsung Class 6 microSD card is the most stable one around for the mini 0801
EDIT (some of this is already there)

4) How to flash firmware via special USB Cable and UNBRICK your 0801
http://dashcamtalk.com/forum/thread...r-dvr-a-k-a-mini-0801.1001/page-56#post-28614
