yeah DIY most often gets done via the floor, professional installers go through the roof, 8M is the longest cable we have, not sure if that extra 2M would be enough if you go via the floor though
 
Just measured and I would need around 70cm more to go in a straight line across the big window to the bottom one or around 120cm more if I go around the big window. I think the included cable is 6m long, right? So 7.20m would be ideal. 8m would work too.

Why extending it with e.g. this or this wouldn't work? That contradicts everything I know about cabels. The signal strength does gets weaker over a distance, but if 800cm cable works, then I'd think 600cm + 150cm would work too, no?
 
Can't use standard extension cables because they are not standard cables. Mini USB actually has 10 conductors in the plug, most of which are used here, so a standard 5-conductor USB extension won't work.

Also, it's REALLY easy to fish a cable down the center of the headliner in a Prius because it's a hatchback and thus has a very short roof. Less easy in a regular sedan like a Camry. In fact it's even easier if you have a sunroof because that gives you easy access to the headliner, inboard, away from the curtain airbags. That's how I ran the rear camera cable in my wife's Highlander, specifically to avoid the side airbags.
 
Alright, you do make some interesting points, ordered the 8m cable over amazon. Never did I imagine I would spend $37 on a usb cable. Now to squeeze the cable I have put back through the grommet area (the pain!) and wait 7 days for the 8m cable to arrive.
 
FYI. When mounting to that small flat glass, during bad weather do not expect to see/record much from it. I have it there on my Eclipse Cross and that is the down side to it. If mounting on the top glass, you lose a large amount of the view. I will be looking around to see if there exists any tiny wiper that i can put in front of the rear cam (probably doesn't exist). But for right now, every time its raining or snowing or shortly after either while the roads are still wet, every stop I do I wipe the glass in front of the rear cam. I have to do the same for the 4 cameras on the EC.
 
I so love my rear wiper / washer.
But i have found that after i was rear ended the electric window don't heat up as fast and my rear camera are over the top heater line, but it do eventually get cleared, but not before i an well under way.
I really really cant recommend external non protected cameras in the rear or front for that matter, it should only be used as a absolute last resort IMHO

I think i will try and lover my rear camera when the weather get better, i think a half inch or so should be possible without getting any heater lines in the footage.

placement has a lot to do with it, I have external cameras on two of my cars, one gets covered in crap easily, the other rarely does
 
As a teen one of the guys had a mid / late 70ties Mk1 ford escort station wagon, and it was pretty good at collecting dirt on the back.
But then he got a few deflectors / plastic thingies that snapped onto the hatch, and that cut down some of the dirt accumulating back there.

It was a 1300 that had a 1600 swapped in, and it did kill the diff now and then so we was experts at replacing it on that car and another guys BMW 2002 TI

Is it true that the 8m cable has 90 degree plugs on both ends? Just got my 8m from Street Guardian USA but only one end is 90 degrees, another one is straight. Didn't unroll and measure the length though, will be doing that now.
 
We are doing a photo shoot of the 8M cable and I'll post photos later today. The temp photo on the listing is not correct. (will be updated/fixed asap to show 90 on one end straight on the other end)
