VIOFO A329T 3-Channel Telephoto Dashcam - 4k+2k+2k - Unboxing, First Impressions & Testing Europe

I have been running the Samsung Pro Plus 256GB micro SD card for the past few weeks.
It has been performing just fine without any issues.
The same SD card was used in the A329 without any trouble.
For around 20-24€ a good card.

The others were driving between 75-130kmh. Meaning a speed difference of 147-202km/h or 91-124mph.

I think my abilitys in street-legal-engine rebuilds for my saab are too bad to try that as well.
Somehow I need to employ you for my further dashcam-tests. 🤡



Fastest I tried was 255kph..... while....


..... blowing the intercooler and loosing an indicator-light :facepalm:


But interesting to see your testing 🙂

It's fun, but the car has to be capable to do this safely.

With the warm weather of about 35°C or 95°F the past few days, I used the parking mode to test how it would perform in the heat.
The A329T is set to run in low bitrate parking mode.
Even with direct sunlight, it didn't stop recording while the car was parked for several hours.
It's working as it should.
 
While I like to show how well a product works, it's also important to show the negative sides.
I had the CPL installed for some time and removed it to check the "raw" footage without it. Back then, I already saw that the nighttime footage took a slight hit when the CPL was mounted.
Since another competitor now also has a CPL, I installed the CPL again to make a comparison.
While the daytime footage will benefit, the nighttime plate capture takes a hit.
The settings have not been changed.
This only applies to the wide-angle camera. The telephoto has been running the CPL all the time.
All plates have been partly blurred to comply with privacy laws.

At lower speeds, the capture is fine. Oncoming traffic at night at higher speeds is now harder to capture.

It's easily noticeable that the telephoto lens shines at night with plate capture.
In combination, they still manage to capture nearly every plate. Even in hard conditions.
The A329T is THE king of plate capture.
 
A gas station sign in the distance, while stationary, to compare to the T800.
About 40-44m distance to the sign.

I think the picture speaks for itself.
 
The 329 series is arguably the clearest dash cam available at present. Vantrue and 70mai should seriously study VIOFO's technology in this regard.

Viofo just knows their image quality game and it shows.
 
The A329T keeps happily running without any issues. The few year old HK4 provides the power for the parking mode.
The hybrid parking mode is definitely noticeable in the runtime and battery voltage. A lot less power consumption.
I could share a hundred more plate captures, but I think it's proven that the A329T is the king of image quality.
If anyone considers the A329T, go for it.

Have to say, the plate capture is very impressive. 👍

The main downside, imo, of the ‘T’ platform is the extra clutter on the windscreen…I’d be interested how that all looks on your car..?
I guess the logical future development will be some kind of ‘Hybrid’ lens on the front camera, like some home security cameras now offer, or possibly even twin separate lenses…but of course this crams more into the unit, likely increasing the physical size or the resulting thermal challenges involved…

Interested on the CPL experiences, specifically on the main front wide angle lens – where did you settle in the end with having it on or off..? Obviously, would be a PIA removing the CPL per daytime and night use..! There’s a lot of sun and glare where I am, particularly through the summer, which I’m hoping the CPL (along with HDR) will help with….
Curious how your findings highlighted a ‘hit’ for nighttime use – would you say this was due to the inherent light reduction of the CPL or more to do with an aspect of the polarised light..?

On my cameras, CPL filters are installed day and night.

VIOFO A329S Series arrived to me.
Huge thanks to the entire Viofo team, especially Bill Zhou for such a chic set, as well as the Viofo.ru team, which helped me get all this for testing.
Since unpacking photos are in each topic, and some topics have very professional photos, I don’t see the point in posting my photos.
I’ll only post photos of the general set.
In the future, as usual, I’ll post videos and screenshots, as well as comments on the operation of this model.
Since the set is very chic and if there are no comments on the operation of this model, especially at high temperatures...

It's actually not that bad on my windshield.
The telephoto lens can be mounted in corners or tighter areas. Since it is zoomed in a lot, you don't have to pay much attention to objects near it. It won't see it.

I could send you a picture but I'm currently running more than the A329T in my car. It would not be a fair comparison.

I decided to leave the CPL on all the time.
The decrease of plate capture is negligible since the CPL greatly improves the daytime visibility. Additionally, the
Telephoto will help out at night. No other unit will catch as many late as the A329T does.

I'm no expert on how the CPL will affect the camera, but to my knowledge it's caused by the CPL darkening the image. The camera will try to compensate for it, causing a bit more motion blur, affecting night time plate capture.

Unfortunately, I don't have a photo at hand.
My telephoto is installed slightly to the right of the left pillar. It doesn't bother me at all.
The main thing is that the video from the telephoto is shot in the windshield wiper zone.

It seems that your rear camera is generating significant halos around point source lights. I’m seeing this in my rear camera feed as well and thought it was because of the polarizer. I removed the polarizer and made sure the camera lens does not have any smudges or finger prints on it. I won’t be able to test again until tomorrow evening.
