VIOFO A329T 3-Channel Telephoto Dashcam - 4k+2k+2k - Unboxing, First Impressions & Testing Europe

Looks like it's off to a different dimension there! I'll one-up you and blast the A329T off to space hahaha

Still the A329T performs quite well considering the tough conditions
Hahaha
That's why I wrote on the road 😉

It does perform very good. At least one of the 2 cameras will capture the plate. That's my experience from the past few days.

In the next few days we should see temps of around 30-35°C in Germany. This will be a small little heat test while we wait for your heat testing.

Heat testing is all yours mate, it's winter here. We ain't getting those temperatures haha until November again

Since we all seriously test these camera, I wanted to make sure that the A329T is prepared for the German Autobahn. 🤣
And it is. Fastest A329T yet. (on the road) 281km/h or 174mph

Did you get any number plates at that speed?

You ask and you shall receive.
Yes, it did. Without issues actually.

The others were driving between 75-130kmh. Meaning a speed difference of 147-202km/h or 91-124mph.
Or just about the speed of 2 cars going the opposite direction at 100km/h or 60mph each. And the A329T captures that too.

I just installed the A329T too and it’s time to start checking it out. 🙂 What are you noticing with HDR on vs off in different lighting conditions with the telephoto?
I would suggest using the HDR timer, based on my experiences from the last few days.
If you leave HDR enabled, at daytime you will get the effect seen in this picture.

It can still be identified, but not as good as it could be with HDR disabled.
Take this screenshot for comparison.

I have been running the A329T with a Samsung Pro Plus 256GB micro SD card.
It's working just fine and I didn't have any issues with it so far.
The A329 and every other dashcam I tested happily run with these Pro Plus cards.

Those plate captures at night are super sharp, quite different from my A329. Is that because the A329T has different hardware or is it a firmware feature? If firmware, will this change make it into the A329?

I haven't noticed a big difference between the A329 and A329T. Both perform exceptionally well.

EU plates are good to capture. Maybe that's why you see a difference.

Viofo release a new Firmware for the A329T.

The past few days I tried the LPID parking mode.
I got a much lower battery draw with it.
Seems like the battery pack could go for several days with the A329T.
If wired directly to the car's battery it would also greatly improve the run time!

Yes, it makes parking mode on a car battery practical for multi-channel 4K dashcams, which can save a lot of expense, dashcam batteries are not cheap!

With the battery from my car I am able to get 8-10h before the low voltage protection kicks in.
With LPID it should be a few days.

A dashcam battery will of course be the better solution. My one has 96Wh.
If I take the values @rcg530 calculated from his power draw measurements, then we can see times of 9 days and 7 hours with LPID instead of 16h with low bitrate recording from the 96Wh dashcam battery.
That's a very big improvement.

Can you share what size battery and what cutoff voltage that relates to?

LPID sounds good, but it might not be good enough for the small battery in my hybrid car. I don't want to spend $500 thinking it will work then find that I only get 4hrs or less.

That is the type of power savings that would propel me to finally buy a external power pack such as the PowerCell. I could not justify the cost of a external battery for only a days worth of recordings. Now, with this LPID there is incentive to get a battery pack.

My battery has 80Ah.
It's over 7 years old but still going strong

The cutoff voltage I set is 12V or 12,2V

It's definitely an upgrade in runtime!

The 70mai battery could be a bit cheaper than the PowerCell. (If you can get it in the US)

Hardest plate to capture yet. Only the telephoto was able to capture it.

I love your huge plates. It’s like they were designed by older people with poor vision. 😀
Our German plates are indeed easy to capture and read.
Swiss or Italian however not so much. They are much smaller in the front.

I have to admit that I'm sometimes a bit jealous of the plate designs you get in the US.
