Where did you mount the camera? Post your pictures

Perhaps a run of UV glue along the leading edge might help to hold it in place?

My favorite 2 semi-permanent adhesives are silicone sealer, and either "Shoe Goo" glue or hot-melt glue (both these are similar once cured but the first goes on cold). Ithink if you used a dab of any of these on the lens barrel it would add enough support to keep the 3M from peeling away at that end, thus it would maintain it's strength. I don't think 'off-gassing' during curing would be a problem as this is quite well open to airflow unlike mounting a filter on a lens assembly. And in this case my preference would be "Shoe Goo" to start as it films over in an hour or two but is nearly as strong as hot-melt glue when fully cured.

All these can usually be peeled off most surfaces if done carefully when you want them gone, but deep textured surfaces may not go so easily. A finished 'dot' of ~2-3 mm would be plenty strong for this purpose with all three adhesives.

Phil

Applying heat to Dual Lock tape during installation can help in securing it to textured surfaces but I agree that VHB tape is much more pliable. I like your workaround of applying VHB to Dual Lock for this purpose.
Thinking back now, my original installation that peeled away was using off-brand VHB tape. I have a few pads of the proper black VHB that came with various SG & Viofo cameras. I'll have a go with that, maybe combined with dual-lock so I can change the camera at a later date.

My experience with the clear version has been quite the opposite. The helmet mounts if I remember correctly came with the clear tape. I think it's better than 5952.

Looks good!

When I did essentially the same set-up on the same cheese board though, I didn't use the camera cradles, instead apply Dual Lock directly to the bottom of the cameras. It made for a lower profile, more compact install. I'm not using that set-up these days and the Dual-Lock tape was removed cleanly with no evidence it was ever there.

I thought about that, but I frequently remove the cameras during testing and find that it's easier to slide the cameras out of the mount than it is to separate the dual-lock each time. You may also notice that I have to position the cameras carefully to avoid the varifocal ending up in the FOV of the F1.

The other reason for using the cradles is that the F1 battery door comes open very easily, which means it then loses its date & time settings. Keeping it in the cradle holds the battery door shut.

It's a matter of preference really. The F1 battery door issue alone sounds like a good enough reason to do it the way you did.

Added another Garmin 55. Mounted to the rear window. I now have parking mode to the rear.

Careful there young man! With you aligning the cam between the grid lines and doing such a clean wiring job with that rear cam, people are going to certify you as a "Professional Dashcam Addict" but hey, maybe that's not a bad thing (y):ROFLMAO:

Phil

Right on! I'm on a mission now after a high school kid backed into my Raptor and bent the front bumper. He left a note (on school paper) on the windshield that said "this ought to pay for it". It was a $50 bill. The repair bill was $3200. Of course no name or contact info.

I'm not big on having wires show, so they had to disappear. I could easily become a "dashcam addict". They are fun to mess with. Looking forward to the day manufacturers come up with a 360 degree system. Something like Google Earth uses for street views, roof mounted, but real small with an inside module that has the micro SD card.

DR900S w/ 2 B124 batteries. Self install in my 4C, if I could do it, anyone should be able fit. There is no space in this car and no sound deadening so had to take apart center tunnel as only place you can run wires front to back. Both batteries fit under the passenger seat (barely).

Nearly run-over by a semi at stoplight and decided that needed some kind of proof of liability for next of kin in this type of situation.

For those in the UK worried about positioning of their camera and the MOT, mine passed with my camera here. I guess it's down to tester discretion though.

Where you have mounted your camera looks fine to comply with UK MOT law.

The clear field of view[no obstructions or glass imperfections] is a vertical strip, 290mm wide centred on the steering wheel.

Where I mounted my BlackVue DR900-2CH cameras is barely noticeable from outside the car, or inside the car for that matter.
